Yesterday Dez said “Hopefully this year, I believe Tony’s got a good shot at being MVP" and I completely agree with his assessment. Dez will likely build on his last season performance and deliver 1,500+ yards and 12+ TDs and Miles' is apparently healthy for the first time in a long while, combined with a line that appears to be average, if not above average, for the first time in years we may finally be living up to the cliché of being "Romo-friendly".

He was 97 yards off from 5,000 last season and barring injury I believe he passes that once sacred barrier. Boys, this may be the year we finally get back to the holy land and Romo will be one leading us there.... I've been waiting all year for Sunday Night, Tony and the 'boys in a primetime fight.

I'll be happy to win the division then go from there. But I'm fine with Dez or Romo winning the MVP. If either does then we have had a pretty good season.

Romo winning MVP could happen. He'd have to play lights out and the team would have to be winning big though.

So, have you finally come around to the thinking that Dez is a good player and was a good draft pick, or do you still think otherwise?

The key to winning MVP is 1. being a QB, 2. being on one of the best 2-3 teams in the NFL, and 3. having one of the 3-4 highest passer ratings of all QBs.

Last year, JJ Watt had arguably the best single season of any defensive player of all time and he didn't win it. Calvin Johnson had one of the greatest single seasons of any WR in history and he didn't win it. Adrian Peterson did win it (which shocked everyone), and he had one of the greatest single seasons of any RB in history AND single-handedly brought his team to the playoffs.

JJ Watt MIGHT have won it if the Texans didn't fall apart at the end of the season, and Calvin Johnson MIGHT have won it had he brought the Lions to the playoffs like AP did for the Vikings.

As far as QBs go, it doesn't matter what kinda numbers you put up--you're not gonna win MVP if your team finishes 10-6. I need to look up the past QBs who won MVP, but almost every time their team finished 13-3 or better. Brady won when the Pats went 16-0, Rodgers won when the Pack went 15-1, Peyton and Ryan were in the hunt last year and they both played on 13-3 teams.

Respectfully, my opinion has been twisted and skewed on Dez for years at this point so I rarely argue it but I'm a huge fan and believe he's an outstanding player. I initially did not like the pick as I'm a huge proponent of selecting players with great mental intangibles and outstanding character (Sean Lee). Almost instantly after the draft I argued that Sean Lee was the better pick (a position which I hold to this day, in a redraft both would likely go top 7 and we grabbed Lee in the 2nd round - better value!) in addition to whaling on the team for not selecting Nate Allen or trading up to grab Earl Thomas, Eric Berry, Mike Iupati or Maurkice Pouncey (all of which, with the exception of Allen, have turned out to be great players) given how we had huge glaring needs that have remained to this day at safety or on the oline.

I was very concerned with Bryant's character and perceived lack of ability to learn a playbook and run proper routes - all of these concerns panned out, showing themselves once again during his tenure with the Cowboys. However Bryants all-time talent as well as the team cradling him (and I don't say that negatively) has been able to have him realize his talent. I certainly hope that it continues, if it does we likely had the two biggest steals of the 2010 draft in Bryant & Lee.

TLDR; He was a great draft pick, however hindsight is 20/20.

Maurkice Pouncey is a great player. lol.

The Steelers just named him as captain lol, I haven't followed the careers of those four all that closely but from the broad statements I hear/see they appear to be doing great.

I gotta believe theres a piece of Dez that want's to make up for some of those int's that Romo caught heat for when Dez wasn't up to speed on his route adjustments and all the times Romo told him where to go AFTER the huddle broke.

Just looking up the recent past QB MVPs...

2011- Aaron Rodgers
team record: 15-1
passer rating: 122.5

2010- Tom Brady
team record: 14-2
passer rating: 111.0

2009- Peyton Manning
team record: 14-2
passer rating: 99.9

2008- Peyton Manning
team record: 12-4
passer rating: 95.0

2007- Tom Brady
team record: 16-0
passer rating: 117.2

2004- Peyton Manning
team record: 12-4
passer rating: 121.1

2003- Peyton Manning
team record: 12-4
passer rating: 99.0

2002- Rich Gannon
team record: 11-5
passer rating: 97.3

1999- Kurt Warner
team record: 13-3
passer rating: 109.2

I'll stop there. Before Kurt Warner, it was Brett Favre twice, preceded by Steve Young twice. And the standards for QBs are getting higher and higher.

Romo's best passer rating was a 102.5 in 2011. Other than that they've all big in the mid 90's. His best record was 13-3. Other than that they've all be at or around .500.

If he wants to win, he needs to have career bests in both. Meaning 13-3 with a 102.5. And even then, he's not guaranteed.

Fair enough... but Thomas, Berry, Iupati, and Pouncy aren't anywhere nearly as impressive at their position as Dez is at his. Dez is top 3 at his position if he continues to play like he did the last half of last year, and maybe the best. None of those other guys are anywhere close to that at their positions, although Berry could possibly be.

Plus, to use the same tactic you did in your post, we got Dez a lot later than those guys were drafted - So better value! Getting someone as uber talented as Dez at pick #24 is terrific value.

Even if he did finish with career bests. I think the voters would have a tough time giving him any credit because most have criticized him his entire career. IMO they would look elsewhere on the team or the league.

Who would've won MVP in 2007 if not for Brady/New England's mutant season? Or better question, who should have been the runner up? The reason I always like to ask is because Brady got 49/50 votes (except for one homer Favre vote), so we really have no idea who was in the running. I think Romo was really in the MVP discussion except for two things: 1) the aforementioned bad luck of being in a 16-0, 50TD mutant NE season and 2) the Cowboys were 12-1 at one point, Romo with 35 TDS with 3 games to go. Then we go 1-2 the rest of the way and Romo only has 1 TD pass in the final 3 games. Kinda took the shine off.

I don't understand where all of this MVP talk is coming from lol. We haven't even played a down this season yet and we just one of the best games a quarterback has ever had in Peyton Manning just a few days ago.

If Romo is going to be a MVP candidate this team has to win more than 8 games. Let's start there.

Bull ...... just last year you were calling for him to be cut.

I really think you live to harass me on these forums. I may have said he should be cut but I believe I said it wouldn't surprise me. For context this was shortly after Dez was arrested for allegedly beating his own mother. If I said it my anger motivated me, human beings are not suppose to a lay hand on their mothers.
