If those are the type players that you are seeing in context of this discussion- then you are completely lost.

Lets bring back some guys like Norton, or Haley, or Irvin, or Emmitt, or any of a hundred others in this teams history... bring in attitudes like Lily, like Randy White, for example. Getting through to you yet? I can go on, if you like? Our history is full of men like these- men who had attitude.

Each and every one a professional- and each and every one would protect their teams history, their house, their manhood at the drop of a hat. try the stuff we saw yesterday and ANY one of these guys would be on you in a heart beat.

there's no point debating with some people on this site. they will always go to the extreme to try and disprove your point. i mean we are talking about tough, physical players with edge and the first guy out of his ******** mouth is pacman jones? are freaking serious...i feel like i'm debating with 12 yr olds sometimes on this site.

The defense will have it's turn at cleansing next pre-season. Count on it. Dead weight will be turned loose to find greener pastures if they exist for them.

Hopefully we will bring in some guys who have the heart, the will, and the ability... oh, and did I mention a little PRIDE in themselves, their team, and the history that this franchise represents.

JJ tried to get that instilled this year, before the season. Bringing in some of our past leaders for a meet and greet type thing. Pretty much fell on deaf ears. Time to send the message in a different way now.

And time to bring in some men who understand that this is not a suit and tie business when you step on the field. This is still football. It is a mans game with all that that implies. Time to man up, or get the hell out.

i don't think its a coincidence that this topic keeps coming up today. i created a thread about drafting Burfict for the same reason, and I saw a few other people talking about the same thing.
We're getting punked week after week and we look soft. I totally see what you mean when you mention Ware taking it easy on opposing defenses. he's ridiculously talented, and he's a genuinely good guy. i'll take that all day, but you have to mix it with a james harrison, or a rodney harrison, or hell even a cortland finnegan. you have to have a gritty, nasty player that makes the opposing team uncomfortable. someone unpredictable that you can't just assume is going to fly straight.

I noticed this and this is the reason why i say draft the mean SOB linebacker Vontaze Burfict. We need a tough linebacker with a mean mentality. Vontaze will be what the doctor ordered for this defense.

That is just the players. I think if you had a coach that was "thuggish" it could compensate and rubb-off some.

For example, S Payton is kind of a thuggish coach. If you let him hang 60 on you, he will. It sends a message even as subtle as "Damn NO is coming and they just laid 60 on the Colts and 50 on the Giants." It creates a little doubt or more concern than normal. Here other teams wait for us to make the one mistake or wear down and its over. Those times we don't we look fantastic.

I wouldn't expect that would be the case. Did Lily get them? Sometimes. Did Ken Norton Jr? Sometimes. Did Charles Haley? Sometimes. Randy white? Sometimes. Woodson? Sometimes.

Is that what you mean?

Not sure about Vontaze but sometimes maturity and knowing when is the time, and when not- makes the difference. Not all opportunities should be taken, but sometimes something cannot be overlooked as well. Know what I mean?

What happened yesterday- was one that should not have been overlooked. Ever.

No, but it would be nice to knock an opponent out of the game. Last one I remember was McNabb on teh RW1 INT.

I totally agree with this post... Bottom line is you must have some real DOGS on defense who are ready to eat every week. The Ken Nortons, the Charles Haleys, Eric Williams (yes I know he played on offense but he set the tone for toughness and nastiness) and the Randy White's.

The Steelers aren't all that good right now, ... they barely beat the Browns, Jags and the Chiefs.

But they intimidate and smash you in the mouth. I think they win games that way.

The Ravens D intimidates, don't tell me they don't.

I'm not sure how I feel about the thread topic, but I can add something to the debate. After the Bills game, I looked on one of the forums for the Bills and caught a thread about DeMarcus Ware, and in that thread many Bills fans were saying how they couldn't believe Ware took it easy on Fitzpatrick on one of his sacks...that he could have easily leveled Fitz...I mean blasted him...but he didn't...he just gently dragged him to the ground.
