I am on the Dak train and I love our draft even more now

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:.......yet his pump fake (which Romo hardly ever does), (which will now get twisted into "Dak is better than Romo")...his pump fake is what made the TD to TWill happen. I do understand that some on this board have a pea brain and like to play the gay card at any chance they get but anyone with a little football knowledge understands that a QB with larger size hands does not fumble quite as often and does have a huge advantage to the lost art of the pump fake which still is very effective in the NFL.
You don't think Tony Romo pump fakes much?
I guess maybe he does it more with his shoulders, but he seems to do some sort of fake to move the safeties quite often.

Actual exchange I listened to this afternoon on Philly sports radio....

Caller: Did you watch the Dallas game?

Host: No. Why would I do that? I don't care about the Cowboys first preseason game.

Caller: I was going to ask you what you thought of Dak Prescott, Mike.

Host: Zack Prescott. Who cares about Zack Prescott?! .... Zack Prescott stinks.

I love everything I here about him. He looks the part. He has great leadership qualities. Great build, can move, big hands. I am very excited for him, our future and quite possibly the present should Romo go down. This draft class has a chance to go down as one of our all time best drafts.

1. As long as Zeke allegations are false and he is anywhere near the hype, we will have a great player.
2. If Jaylons nerve comes back add another top 5 pick.
3. Collins can give us a nice rotation guy with quickness to rush the passer.
4. Tapper might just be the consistent edge rusher we need/ed.
5. Dak may just be our future. Possible steal here.
6. Brown is looking good at corner. Speed, athleticism and size are always a good start to making a CB.
7. Darius Jackson is one of my favorite picks of the draft. SLEEPER!

As has been said before, potential but not production. Need proof of life before we believe.

Wrong. You can believe in something before production. That is the whole point in believing. Also Dak is 1 for 1 in production.

OK, Prescott had better REAL reps heading into the game (see post http://cowboyszone.com/threads/dak-prescott-vs-wentz-vs-goff-draft.353880/page-8 "Dak got more REAL practice with Moore out and Romo having SENIOR days off. Real practice with the ones has much more influence than 2nd or 3th string reps"). However, the rest of the list of Draftees and Free Agents were selected for potential including Prescott. So, until we see these players in real games they are still potential than production. Dallas usually misses on the potential players, but we will see.

Nothing better than big hands for sure. :muttley:

I look forward to watching his next action.

I like to call it before it happens. I am not much of a bandwagon guy. See below.

I very excited about Dak but if he turns out to be Romo's heir apparent it's more of an accident than designed plan .

In the 4th rd the Cowboys were basically just looking for a better or more talented backup than Moore they could develop.

No matter how Prescott ends up doing for the rest of the preseason, if Dallas uses it as an excuse to not take another QB to groom next year, it will be falling back into the same pattern that's led the team to what happened last year.

If the Dak train chugs along to an eventual starting role, I'm fine with that, but the team needs to at least be prepared in case it goes off track.

Quite honestly, that is a very silly thought process. We should draft another QB high next year to groom "no matter how well Dak does" this year? So if Dak has a perfect year, you force a pick even if there is no one who justifies the pick is available? Seriously?

Yeah. I am sure the Cowboys drafted Dak knowing he would fail. That would be what I would do if I was the GM, just to throw everyone off. Then, if he panned out it would be an accident, ruining my actual plan.

Remember on draft day Stephen said in the 4th rd they were basically just looking for a better backup than Moore.

I'm sure they had hopes Dak had the potential to develop into the heir apparent but until Saturdays performance it was more of a pipe dream than reality.

I am sure they drafted Dak, and passed on other players, knowing Dak would never amount to anything.

No one said anything about forcing the pick. Did Dallas force the pick with Dak? No. Forcing the pick would have been taking him in the third round or maybe taking Cook in the third instead or Lynch with the fourth overall pick after the top two QBs were gone. There are always players at each position slotted where you are drafting. Dallas has chosen other players over the QBs slotted for where they were picking in the past. The Cowboys need to make QB more of a priority.

Understand that we're not likely to see much of Dak beyond the preseason unless Romo gets hurt. If he performs great in the preseason, it doesn't mean he's going to be a great QB. Dallas doesn't need to stand pat on that. Get another QB to compete next year. Then, you have Romo, Dak and a rookie and increase your chances of finding a player.

It's silly to think we've solved our QB concerns for the future because we have Prescott. We're not likely to know if he's the answer for years to come, so you don't put all your eggs in that basket. Don't let a jewel of a preseason (if it turns out that way) blind you to the possibility that it will turn out to be a mirage.

Connor Cook was drafted 1 pick in front of us when we took Tapper. Pretty sure we would have taken Cook instead of Tapper. So far I am glad it has worked out this way.

On the other hand if Dak shows the Cowboys coaching staff enough that they have a certain level of comfort with the guy, I can't see them spending an early draft pick for a QB... I mean rounds 1, 2 or 3. Not with the other needs on the team like DE, CB, OT and WR.

I can't imagine that to be the case .

Drafting for a backup with hope to develop over time is not the same as drafting a top pick who is slated to be the heir apparent .

Sometimes you get lucky and the player develops sooner than you expect . But I haven't heard from anyone that saw this kind of performance coming ?

If you take the best player available, and that turns out to be a qb, then that's great, but need has to also line up with opportunity. Otherwise you end up drafting a QB and gaining nothing.

Who is to say that the Cowboys have been neglecting anything? We wanted and needed a running back last year, and didn't take one in the draft. The problem was that need didn't line up with available talent so we passed on several running backs, in part, because a better player was on the board at another position when we picked.

It would be nice if we are perceived to not need another QB because of Romo and Dak, and have a can't miss QB prospect fall in our laps, and we take him. Acquiring overall talent generally means more wins over time.

I agree.

The point is I don't believe we were drafting specifically for our heir apparent .
