BP did not sound happy with him- especially his comment about only being able to play LG. It is clear that BP wants O linemen to be able to play more then one position.

We only have three guards right now (plus some camp fodder and Gurode who plays center), so I don't think so. Also Peterman's contract is cheap this year.

Bill will likely only carry 3 guards...so you can call them camp fodder if you want, but all one of them has to do is show better than Peterman for him to be gone.

That's true. But I don't think they will. We'll see. :)

Yep,, to Bill Parcells you have to play more than one position. If the Giants offensive line had one weakness in his hey day, that was it, they only like had one dominant offensive linemen, all others were moving, not staying at one position.

Towards Peterman, he has to show something this summer in training camp. I still think Parcells rushed him to play, when he was hurt. THAT IS ONE WEAKNESS PARCELLS HAS-WANTING GUYS TO PLAY WHEN HURT & THEY REINJURE THEMSELVES LIKE PETERMAN DID!
Next, you have to remember, Peterman had ankle surgery this offseason in January this year. So, he wasnt up to his usual standards, where he came from LSU. Adding to that was his serious knee injury. It takes 2 years to fully recover from devasting one he had.

So, now it's put up time for Stephen Peterman or time to shut up!

Actually Parcells said to the media last year he thought he had a player there...so I am not worried about him till we see him.

With allen gone HE WILL PLAY>

As far as I know he did not play LG at all last season- So I really question just how good he is.

I think peterman starts this year.. as noted he is not as versatile as Kosier. Plus he has been in the system longer.. and he is a player.. been injured some but the kid can play. the only way i see that Peterson doesn't start, is if we bring in another G to play, someone like Neal.

I was impressed with Peterman a couple of years ago in pre-season, especially his awareness of his opponent across the line and telling Romo that a quick count would catch the guy off guard and Romo did a sucessful 2 yd QB sneak for a first down. This team could use a couple more mentally aware players. If he is fully recovered, he could become a leader on the line.

Burm -- you bring this up constantly and I always tell you that BP also said when asked about depth that he "thinks he's got a player behind Allen"

Peterman is going into what will be considered his 2nd year with the team -- BP doesn't count the first one since he was injured. He's not on the bubble. He's competing with Kosier for the starting LG position. BP doesn't like overloading rookies and that might be why Peterman wasn't backing up RG as well.

Agree with Abersonc that Peterman is not on the bubble. Essentially he was a rookie last year who didn't get any playing time behind LA. However, bringing in new starting LG (Kosier) does indicate Peterman not up to snuff yet. Not familiar with Parcells comments "that he had a player behind Allen" but so long as Peterman shows improvement, Parcells will be okay. Better yet if Peterman can be a legit backup guard; we really need that from him this year. Also, while Johnson probably remains starter C, should Gurode (min knowledge of center position til Parcells moved him there in TC) develop better understanding how center position played (extensive studying game film, mentoring from other centers/coaches) and beat out Johnson at C, we in real trouble at backup OG position. So Peterman must become versatile enough to play both guard positions in his 2nd season.

Peterman looks like a bubble. he needs to hit the gym fast. seriously with kosier, and fabini who both can play tackle, the team will move either pettiti or tucker to guard to compete with gurode & rivera for 2 spots. thus making peterman expendable.

Adams, Kosier, Johnson Gurode and Fabini start
Petitti, Rivera, Tucker and a rookie back them up. If we fail to draft anybody Peterman may make it. He still has to beat the likes of Colombo, Procter, Washburn, Price, Tarullo & Snell for a final spot.

Unless we draft a guard high, I think there's a higher probability of Peterman starting this year than of him being cut...

not when you have kosier, rivera, gurode and possibly tucker ahead of him on the depth chart.

Nobody is ahead of anybody on the depth chart when referring to the offensive line, except maybe Flozell Adams. We can speculate on who will start by the salaries, but that doesn't mean much when training camp starts.

I agree, I'm really rooting for the kid to step up and make me feel better about Larry's release.

well, fabini, kosier and gurode just received a substantial signing bonus. i would imagine the front office wants to see a return on their investment. just like last year when rivera stayed out there despite a back injury that rendered him useless.

Tucker will be going into his 4th year here. He's never played guard in the NFL and he isn't likely to start now. Peterman is going into what BP defines as his 2nd year. He'll get this season to show something. Tucker has already shown us what he can do (Please see Phillip Daniels file).

tucker has actually started 24 out of 36 games played in the NFL (Peterman 0 out of 3), he's more versatile (having started at both tackle spots and played guard in college) than stricktly LG Peterman. Has never missed any time due to injury and is only 26. I'd say he stays.
