Since 1961 the Cowboys and Commanders have been in the same Division. The lone exception was the 1982 strike year where Divisions were done away with. This means we have 48 years of Division rivalry with them. In that 48 year span the Cowboys have been last in the NFC East a total of 4 times.

Tom Landry's last year...1988. Jimmy Johnson's first year...1989. Dave Campo's final two years of 5-11 madness...2001 & 2002.

Dan Snyder bought the Commanders in May 1999. Counting 1999 he has owned the team for 11 seasons. They have 4 dead last finishes in the Division just since he took over the team.

2004 under Joe Gibbs. 2006 under Joe Gibbs. 2008 under Jim Zorn. 2009 under Jim Zorn.

Oh, and in case anyone is curious, 3 times before Little Danny bought the team...961, 1993, & 1994,

Anytime I think about the Commanders. I look back with an evil grin on my face no matter how much **** their fanbase talks! I realize after we pounded them this season, and will probably continue to do so next season. That Washington has no chance against us. The fact more Dallas Cowboys live in Washington DC is quite awesome actually haha. I guess some people are raised to be smart, and not cheer on a subpar crap team. Good luck Michael and Kyle. You will need it in that circus.

I will tell you how bad the Commanders have been since Danny took over.

When you said they have had four last place finishes since he took over, it actually surprised me.

I thought it would have been more than that.

They have been so inept for years that four last place finishes is actually better than I thought. :D

BACKUPS! We're talking about BACKUPS. BACKUPS. It is as simple as that. It ain’t about that at all. It’s easy to sum it up if you’re just talking about BACKUPS. We’re sitting here, and we're supposed to be an NFL franchise, and we’re talking about BACKUPS. I mean listen, we’re sitting here talking about BACKUPS, not starters, not starters, not starters, but we’re talking about BACKUPS. Not the guys making millions, BACKUPS ok. Hey we hear you, it's funny to us too, hey it's strange to us too but we're talking about BACKUPS man, we're not even talking about starters when it actually matters, we're talking about BACKUPS.

hey Hos, I don't wanna hijack your thread but I figured since you know the history so well you would know and it will probably bag on the skins too. we've only had the #1 overall draft pick three times in our history and selected Lilly,Aikman and (trade)Maryland if i'm not mistaken. so that's 2 hall of famers and 1 solid player who contributed to 3 Superbowl Championships. do you know how many times the Eagles,Gmen and skins had #1 overall picks and who they took?

So what you're telling me, Hos, is that Snyder has been good for the division. :)

rBob Lilly wasn't the overall #1. The Cowboys have had it 3 times.

1974...Ed "Too Tall" Jones
1989...Troy Aikman
1991...Russell Maryland

The Eagles had the first ever Draft pick. Jay Berwanger in 1936.

1936...Jay Berwanger
1937...Sam Francis
1949...Chuck Bednarik. The last real 2 way player.

Commanders

1948...Harry Gilmer
1962...Ernie Davis. The 1st Black Heisman Trophy Winner. He refused to play for the racist George P. Marshall and was traded to the Browns. Died of Leukemia before ever playing a down.

Giants

1951...Kyle Rote

They also ended up with Eli Manning in 2004, but he was drafted by the Chargers.

He has been good for my funny bone. I think only the Commanders biggest ever back to back draft blunders crack me up more than this revolutionary owner's tenure. The man caused Joe Gibbs to have bad teams.

oh I thought Lilly was a overall #1. what was Lilly then and were those guys for our rivals any good in the NFL? a friend of mine was talking to some guy at his job and he told him about the 3 #1 overall draft picks. he asked me who they were so I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad:eek:: . he than asked me about our rivals so I figured you'd be the best one to ask. that's why I asked that out of nowhere.

Lilly was the Cowboys first ever pick, but in 1961 the #1 overall was Tommy Mason by the Vikings. Lilly was the 13th player taken. Mike Ditka and Herb Adderly, also future Cowboys and Hall of Famers, were taken ahead of him in that Draft

I laugh the most when I think of how many draft pick the stinks got when they took all those draft picks from New Orleans for Ricky Williams.

How did they NOT build a dynasty with these extra picks?

New Orleans entire 1999 draft picks
New Orleans 2000 1st and 3rd draft picks

Laughable.

I never understand why opposing fans hate Dan Snyder

If anything, he has been your best friend for a decade. I'd love the man if I was the fan of any other NFC East team

Because he's a total friggin' idiot and I don't have much use for total friggin' idiots.

I can't believe he censors his own fans. Now he's trying to buy you back and you guys will fall for it hook, line, and sinker...again.

I don't think people are "lapping it up"

The mantra wasn't hard, love the team hate the owner.

We take pride in sticking through thick and thin and not scurrying away like cockaroaches when the going gets tough, like certain NFL fan bases do.

Hell, in 1999 through 2002 I loved Jerry Jones. I didn't think he would have an entire decade of ineptitude and no playoff wins, but I still loved the fact he owned the Cowboys and was hiring bums like Campo.

If I was a fan of the Eagles/Giants/Cowboys, Dan Snyder would be my best friend by doing everything he can to keep a division rival uncompetitive

The funniest thing about this is that Campo owned you guys. 5-1. 1/3 of his total wins were against you guys.

I know, its absurd. Yet the Cowboys were awful and there were very few Cowboy fans to be found in the DC area during the time, like there were a mere 5 years earlier. It was excellent :)
