I know, its absurd. Yet the Cowboys were awful and there were very few Cowboy fans to be found in the DC area during the time, like there were a mere 5 years earlier. It was excellent :)
I'm wondering how many of your fellow fans will lurk around here in 2010 after the sweep? I suspect not many.

The internet fan is an interesting creature. 98 percent of people on the internet are garbage and have no character at all. In real life, these same people are the ones that sit in the cube next to yours

I have no way to judge the Dallas fan base in the Dallas area or in the southwest in general, seeing that I have never been there.

I can only judge the DC area Dallas fan, the vile creature who went from sporting the star on their starter jackets in 1993, to wearing Bret Favre jersey's, finding the "new" Broncos colors cool and somehow thinking Dieon Sanders coming to Washington was great.

I didn't see this vile creature until about 2003, when the tuna came back and so did a few blue and silver jersey's. With the emergence of a young man named Romo, it has reached mid 90s level proportions again and makes me sick

Thats why I really enjoyed 1999-2002, and why I was a huge fan of Jerry Jones at the time :)

Honey, there will always be casual fans in every city who switch teams when the impulse hits, or wear somebody's jersey because it's popular at the time.

I was born in DC and lived in this area my whole life as a Dallas fan among many actual Dallas fans--who gamely still wore their gear (and own as many now-laughable jerseys as Skins fans) and lamented together through 3 years of 5-11, Campo, Coslet, and so on. Don't try to pretend that we weren't around, because I don't see any more or less Dallas gear around now than I always have.

rBob Lilly wasn't the overall #1. The Cowboys have had it 3 times.

1974...Ed "Too Tall" Jones

You forgot Steve Walsh was technically the first pick in the 1990 draft since we took him in 1989 in the supplemental draft.

I have never counted him, but probably should.

Who did they select with all those picks?

Utter garbage. The likes of guys like Lloyd Harrison

The team did hit pretty well on a few guys

1999: Champ Bailey, number 7 overall

Jon Jansen, number 37 overall

2000: Lavar Arrington, number 2 overall

Chris Samuels, number 3 overall

A couple of picks had been traded for Brad Johnson prior to the 1999 draft (1st, 2nd, 3rd in 1999)

I am of the belief that had the ownership situation not been in such flux, and Trent Green was able to have been re-signed during the 1999 offseason, things would have been much different. Ah well

Ah. Thanks for posting that. It wasnt THAT bad, but it should have propelled to almost dynasty like status.

Oh I completely agree.

I think if Trent Green is able to be re-signed things are much different. Norv has his smart strong arm QB who is only 28 at the time. You have 3 more picks (the Vikings picked Culpepper with the first in 1999 they got in the Brad Johnson trade, but guys like Kearse and Booger McFardland were available) and the QB position is solidified and not in flux over the next 4-5 years, because you didn't trade for a weak armed 31 year old Brad Johnson.

Lots of bad timing with lots of things. Blowing all of those picks Ditka gave certainly did not help

I laugh the most when I think of how many draft pick the stinks got when they took all those draft picks from New Orleans for Ricky Williams.

How did they NOT build a dynasty with these extra picks?

New Orleans entire 1999 draft picks
New Orleans 2000 1st and 3rd draft picks

Laughable.

A few really solid players I'd imagine and traded a bunch away for players who turned out to do nothing for them would be my guess.

I never understand why opposing fans hate Dan Snyder

If anything, he has been your best friend for a decade. I'd love the man if I was the fan of any other NFC East team

I'm glad he's your owner, for sure, but that doesn't mean he's any less annoying and stupid. If the league has to have owners like that though I'm always all for them being the owner of the Commanders, Eagles, and/or Giants.

I don't think people are "lapping it up"

The mantra wasn't hard, love the team hate the owner.

We take pride in sticking through thick and thin and not scurrying away like cockaroaches when the going gets tough, like certain NFL fan bases do.

Hell, in 1999 through 2002 I loved Jerry Jones. I didn't think he would have an entire decade of ineptitude and no playoff wins, but I still loved the fact he owned the Cowboys and was hiring bums like Campo.

If I was a fan of the Eagles/Giants/Cowboys, Dan Snyder would be my best friend by doing everything he can to keep a division rival uncompetitive

LMAO! Nice backhand comment about certain NFL fan bases. Like the Commanders don't have tons of fans who do the exact same thing.

I love it when people act like fairweather fans are exclusive only to the fan base of their rival teams. Always warms the heart when people show that kind of ignorance.

The funniest thing about this is that Campo owned you guys. 5-1. 1/3 of his total wins were against you guys.

OUCH. That's gotta sting.

Wait...you gave up 3 picks, 3 high picks at that, for a QB who did nothing for you and only a couple of years later was playing in the Superbowl for another team?

Dang.

That does have to suck.

Its about as bad as giving up 2 first round picks for a WR who'd be gone in 3 years :)

But not as bad as using 1st round picks 2 years in a row on the exact same guy and then discovering he has no desire to play professional football.

The attendance at the Sunday Night game against us says otherwise.
