I changed my mind about the trade

Nothing to do with Lance or even about rocking the boat or challenging Dak, but doesnt it feel like Jerry went rogue and made this decision on his own? I watched the videos and while it was obvious Dak and McCarthy didn't know this was coming, I'm not 100% sure that Stephen or Will McClay were involved either.

Starting to feel like a T.O. trade., who was not a bad acquisition but one that clearly undermined the authority of the coach. I'm wondering if this move might end up being the straw that breaks the McCarthy era.

T.O undermined coaching authority?

Fans have a misguided notion about head coaches and their authority/influence in Dallas over the past twenty years, especially related to the draft.

Jerry listens to Big Mike on the draft about as much as he listens to his wife.

Here is the current order of influence:
-McClay and the team of scouts
-Jerry
-Stephen
-Quinn
-Mike / Gene Jones

Ask me later and I'll explain sooner.

All is speculation at this point- except we got a former number 3 pick that is 23 yo and has a skill set but just has not played enough football during to injuries for a late 4th round pick that will likely be somewhat offset by a comp pick or two.

There is so much upside here

McClay is involved with all moves

I sure hope that's correct. I think you're right, but it would suck if McClay wasn't involved. A large part of my confidence with this move is believing McClay and our coaches saw enough to support the decision.

Personally I'm of the opinion that this move was discussed a lot behind closed doors and they pushed from a 5th to a 4th bc they see a potential player they could develop and flip for a higher pick or a potential successor to dak in a few years- either way good value for a deep 4th pick

T.O undermined coaching authority?
Parcells just ignored TO. Wade on the other hand couldn't handle it when he started accusing Romo and Written of drawing up plays in the sand.

Knowing Jerry made this trade on his own makes me think differently about it as well, since that means it's obviously not a smart football decision.

In defense of Jerry, if you can get top rated prospects for a 4th round pick, you take it. Lance is better then Levis who was a second round pick this year. I agree, Jerry went rogue because Dak didn’t agree with the extension.

Watching Jerry's sideline interview, I get the impression this was all hammered out while SF was on the phone waiting for an answer.

It was a smart move, so if Jerry "went rogue", he gets all the credit.

It's a move that has very little chance of diminishing the team, but a realistic opportunity of improving it.

LOL the team “mysteriously” improved the past 4 years but I’m sure Mike has nothing to do with that? Those same clowns looked completely lost the 10 years prior when the coach was absolute garbage! The roster is night and day from what they built in that decade! You’re fooling yourself!

Lol, This has McClay written all over it. We’ve done this for years. Gotten former first round picks that haven’t lived up to there potential, or have been injured for mid round picks or off the street. Malik Hooker is a perfect example.

I will admit I hated the TO pick up at first but in reality it was a great pick up. TO does not deserve the hate that I and other Cowboys fan have/ had for him. Kind of off topic I know.
True. If TO were in today's era, he wouldn't have caught nearly as much flak..

I hated TO for disrespecting the star. When he got to the Cowboys, I loved him. Even got to see a couple games w Romo and TO at the old stadium.

But upside, potential and hope doesn’t garner click$. Aren’t those outdated concepts, relegated to misinformed homers?
