All is speculation at this point- except we got a former number 3 pick that is 23 yo and has a skill set but just has not played enough football during to injuries for a late 4th round pick that will likely be somewhat offset by a comp pick or two.

There is so much upside here
There may not be.

Lol, This has McClay written all over it. We’ve done this for years. Gotten former first round picks that haven’t lived up to there potential, or have been injured for mid round picks or off the street. Malik Hooker is a perfect example.
Hooker was already very good, just had injury issues. Different case.

McClay and Stephen are always involved even if they disagree. Always others involved.

Nothing to do with Lance or even about rocking the boat or challenging Dak, but doesnt it feel like Jerry went rogue and made this decision on his own? I watched the videos and while it was obvious Dak and McCarthy didn't know this was coming, I'm not 100% sure that Stephen or Will McClay were involved either.

Starting to feel like a T.O. trade., who was not a bad acquisition but one that clearly undermined the authority of the coach. I'm wondering if this move might end up being the straw that breaks the McCarthy era.
That coach had the authority, this coach has never had it.

I will admit I hated the TO pick up at first but in reality it was a great pick up. TO does not deserve the hate that I and other Cowboys fan have/ had for him. Kind of off topic I know.
TO for all his sheganians , very good player, ( LOL Parcells referred him as the “Player” )
he loved to compete and was good for the role he was brought in , unfortunate that he got injured ans came back in playoffs but not fully there ! Terry Glenn and he would have been terrific combo but Terry was also injured , so-it was left to Crayton to carry the torch inthat playoff game and he **** the bed. Sigh !

This is classic Jerry ,

MM was notified the moment he arrived to the installations.

I hope MM doesn't quit on this team , or worse, i hope Jerry doesn't fire him . because "Headcoaches dont matter "

Fans have a misguided notion about head coaches and their authority/influence in Dallas over the past twenty years, especially related to the draft.

Jerry listens to Big Mike on the draft about as much as he listens to his wife.

Here is the current order of influence:
-McClay and the team of scouts
-Jerry
-Stephen
-Quinn
-Mike / Gene Jones

Ask me later and I'll explain sooner.
Definitely feels like DQ gets preference based on all the D picks.

Sometimes feels like Stephen is just there to play the bad guy vs Jerry and low ball their players, and keep his old man in line when he starts getting that ’feeling.’ :omg:

Bullet, I remember Drew Breeze was injury prone and not doing well in SD. NO gave him a fresh start in a great system surrounded by talent.

This kid may just surprise us.
Nice post GMO....it's ABSOLUTELY worth the flyer they took on him. Guys ridiculing the move are just being contrarians IMO. No real downside to it.

If Grier ends up a starter somewhere else, the trade will end up being a bad one. Can’t see Lance getting a fair shot here. He’s basically a leverage piece when sorting out Dak’s extension.

Someplace somewhere I read the Cowboys had a high second round grade on him. That could be smoke and smoke for all we know. Either way, we have wasted higher picks for no much at all. This has a potential of being good. Remember Romo did nothing for 3 years before he magically became the starter.
I heard the same after I posted. Still, a high second for a 23 year old and get him for $900k years later? Winning!

Not gonna be an extension for Dak.

Knowing Jerry made this trade on his own makes me think differently about it as well, since that means it's obviously not a smart football decision.
Except for one important detail you're missing you do not know put that in three inch headlines Jerry did not make this decision on his own you say you know how do you know not one person has said that that is speculation the man who wrote this post was saying he's speculating and that's all we see there is speculation hyperbole emotional outburst and guessing..

Which by the way it's just a giant headache you all just need to stop getting involved in the business side of football contracts and trades you don't know what goes on in the ranch I guarantee there were ten people involved in this decision five on our side five on their side that's how it works Jerry just didn't wake up one morning get a phone call and say you know what let's do it and never consult the single person.. The Dallas Cowboys are made-up of 1200 employees Jerry Jones may be the owner but there are layers upon layers of management between him and all the other players and employees he does not make any decisions on his own he may break ties he may force his opinion on others he may make it clear he wants something to happen but that doesn't mean he did it on his own....

Trey Lance was probably the QB they've scouted the most in the past decade. Leading up to the 2021 draft Dak Prescott was coming off major injury, and there was a very real possibility Trey Lance could have been in striking distance of the Cowboys. The team more than did their due diligence on Trey Lance. I'd bet the entire coaching staff and front office were on board with Trey Lance in 2021 and still are now for a 4th round pick.

Right because six years in the league he's been at #3 everywhere he went so somehow magically overnight he becomes gino's Smith that was a big mistake by us for not noticing that a scrub so far for his career ends up starting somewhere you mean like all the overreactions to Mike whites couple good games and new cheese sudden resurgence they think that that's gonna make them starters when we all know that's not true.. That's a giant if it's a bunch of hyperbole and what's the odds of Greer becoming a full time starter and when will that be?? So he's gonna go from being a third and being a practice squad scrub since he's come into the league all of a sudden the Cowboys made a mistake this man is a superstar where will rule the day we let Greer go..:lmao::lmao2:

You guys are part of the same group that watched players that we cut have one or two good games and say damn look Jerry's stupid he did it again just like Mike white last year that's hilarious right where's Mike white now I'm just curious where some of these backups are that have one or two good games and then disappear but this board blows up for two weeks and says how stupid a mistake it was to cut Mike white yes this is the same thing and it's not a bargaining chip it's simply bringing in a young 23 year old quarterback who was a top three pick with potential possibly to be a backup that's it he is basically challenging will grier's job and Cooper rush's job that's it you think that somehow Prescott it's challenged him and his camper stupid enough to think that oh look Trey Lance is on the roster we better fold up our tents we better give in????:lmao2::muttley::espn:

He filled his role for a while before he eventually went TO again.

I would argue though it may have led to Parcells leaving a year earlier, based on Bill’s constant comments about the player. I’m sure Big Mack isn’t happy either about the undermining, and I think that’s a big reason why he said in his interview he called Will Grier immediately, before Dak, and told him to play his butt off.

I don’t think it’s detrimental as much as it was in the Jimmy Days, but it does contribute to our Coaches leaving and Players not always respecting the Coach. Even if they didn’t think about it, the media sure as heck gets it in their thoughts with the constant grilling to find something sensational.

It’s just an issue you don’t have to worry about on other teams. Al Davis and Dan Snyder are only ones I’m aware of who ever tried to manage this way.
