I changed my mind about the trade

Nothing to do with Lance or even about rocking the boat or challenging Dak, but doesnt it feel like Jerry went rogue and made this decision on his own? I watched the videos and while it was obvious Dak and McCarthy didn't know this was coming, I'm not 100% sure that Stephen or Will McClay were involved either.

Starting to feel like a T.O. trade., who was not a bad acquisition but one that clearly undermined the authority of the coach. I'm wondering if this move might end up being the straw that breaks the McCarthy era.
I think there’s a major difference. T.O. Was signed to be the #1 WR. A starter. One of the key pieces of the team and it was done without BP’s approval.

Lance is the #3 QB. A developmental project that nobody will really care if he never turns into anything because the investment into him wasn’t heavy.

All is speculation at this point- except we got a former number 3 pick that is 23 yo and has a skill set but just has not played enough football during to injuries for a late 4th round pick that will likely be somewhat offset by a comp pick or two.

There is so much upside here
He was high on the Cowboys draft board, possibly the #1 QB, so yeah....Jerry pulled the trigger.

You guys are forgetting that Dallas scouted Lance a ton during that draft. I remember reports coming out talking about Dallas trading up to get him out drafting him if he fell to them.

It's not like they had no information on Lance and Jerry just did a drunken trade.

I think Lance is going to be a starter in this league and play very well. Depending on the Dak contract negotiations, Dallas will get a high draft pick by trading Lance or a high comp pick after letting Dak go to free agency.

It's a win win for Dallas. For the life of me I don't understand the hate/dislike for this trade

IMO all trades have to be judged over time based on how the acquired player helped the team’s accomplishments.

For example, the TO acquisition was splashy and there’s no doubt he was talented and had great numbers and rapport with Romo. But the acquisition of TO led to zero as in nada playoff wins. Good trade? Meh.

We won’t know what this Trey Lance trade really means for some time.

It could be a huge move. After watching Dak work with Will Grier I get the feeling that he can help work with Trey Lance and help become a good player.

Bullet, I remember Drew Breeze was injury prone and not doing well in SD. NO gave him a fresh start in a great system surrounded by talent.

This kid may just surprise us.

I really don’t get the complaints. People should be excited.

If you watched the Mazi Smith or Bergeron draft discussion, I find it hard to believe someone would come to this rogue Jerry idea.

I see an almost zero % chance he ever makes a significant contribution to this team. Nothing makes me think he is better than Will Grier or a host of other 3rd string QB's around the league. IMO all they did was acquire a former high pick (ie, name recognition). I can't remember that ever paying off for any team when it comes to QB.

So no one in the front office knew but the media knew.. Bryan B was reporting a big trade for days... I dont buy this.

Someplace somewhere I read the Cowboys had a high second round grade on him. That could be smoke and smoke for all we know. Either way, we have wasted higher picks for no much at all. This has a potential of being good. Remember Romo did nothing for 3 years before he magically became the starter.

Lance will be the backup over Rush by the end of year. I'm not sure some of you folks have even watched Lance play in the pros..... At all

Nobody on this board knows the actual pecking order after Jerry.

For he is all powerful.

Your take is logical, which is why it won’t be widely embraced here. Chaos, incompetence, greed and doom are click-worthy bestsellers.

After reading these comments I'm probably being overly paranoid because of thoughts of a senile, meddlesome Jerry. So I will buy into the argument that this was mutually agreed upon. It's too bad Jerry even at his advanced age can't contain his ego and need to show the world his football "brilliance".

MM is the head coach, he is not the GM, he isn't Belichick, sure he can have input, but listening to JJ....it sounded like the call came from SF, and he made the decision right then and there, and that he wanted the player.

don't let Jerry fool you, Lance was brought here for a bargaining chip with Dak, should this season go sour for Dak, Jerry will hold all the cards in the negoitions.

Stephen Jones can play hardball with the best of them, Dak had better perform NFC Champ or better...just my opinion

Help me understand your optimism. He has started less games than Rush with a .500 record. He was so bad he couldn't win the third string job on the team he has spent his entire career. He's going to come in & master a new system & get into such a groove with the players that coaches are comfortable with him as the #2 all while only getting limited snaps because the trade occurred at end of camp\pre-season?

Very good points and I completely agree with you
Plus, SF invested heavily in him. How many billion dollar companies pursued him? There must be SOMETHING there! Our investment is a 4th, a FRACTION of the 9ers’ investment, but who gets the most criticism?
