I didn't know Jimmy Smith (former WR) is in prison...

Nobody going to comment on the fact that he had a gun with him too? According to the article
He was sentenced by a Madison County court to two years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Yeah, that's what this country needs. More people in prison for crimes against themselves. That will solve the problem....

Please.

I've fired multiple people who were stealing from the company to support their habits or getting high while on the job and in company vehicles.

Drug addicts steal, they lie, they threaten, they abuse, they ignore their children, and the create a drain on resources.

They are best gotten off the streets. Out of sight and out of mind.

That is the disconnect here. We have so many people out there who think.. "Who cares.. let that guy get stoned out of his mind... it won't affect me". Probably is, they don't care until they are actually impacted personally bY a crack head, then it all becomes more real to them. It's nothing more than being short sighted.

Crimes against themselves? Wow.

Go to ANY dept of corrections website and I guarantee you 70-80% are incarcerated for robbing and/or killing and raping, for good measure, innocent people.

Why, you SHOULD ask? Money and valuables for guess what?

Their immediate familes usually become involved first and it's devastating.
You seriously need to watch an episode of Intervention to see how the user(s) infiltrate every aspect of their lives.

Drug addicts are losers and an absolute drain on society. I've fired dozens of them, and loved it every time. Lazy, worthless, untrustworthy wastes of talent, and disapointments to their families.

If anything, the law needs to be infinitely more harsh on repeat drug offenders. Might steer a small handful of them straight and get the others out of everybody's way.

I agree. I don't buy the crap that they're "only hurting themselves." Is ruining your own family not a crime? And no serious drug addict doesn't steal from anyone. They're a drain on their employers (if they even have a job), a drain on their families and friends, and a potential threat to society. My mom is an out of control addict (who according to some is "only hurting herself") and i can't wait till she screws up so they can throw her in prison and give her a reality check. Most these hippies saying drugs aren't a problem never dealt with them firsthand.

You simply think the person who does the drugs is the only one who has to deal with the ramifications? How about when he robs a bank and shoots people because he is high and out of his mind? What if he killed one of your parents or siblings or yourself? All the sudden it isn't so cool to have a "free" society when it comes to drug abuse.

Bad things happen when people make bad choices that is a fact. It's the price we pay to be free. There is only so much you can do before you erode the very thing you are trying to protect. If you are willing to give up freedoms for safety you get and deserve neither.

Also, some them do drugs themselves and that influences their naive opinions on the subject. Sure they want to legalize them when they are doing them themselves.

The problem is when you encourage usage by way of legalization, that is like pouring gas on a fire making the situation even worse. Also, by the time the country realizes it made a mistake, it will simply be too late to correct it. It will now just be part of society that is going morally bankrupt at an alarming pace.

And for the people saying drug addicts are non-violent criminals, what was he doing with the gun--going to the range for weekend target practice?
