Maybe i'm a little early with this post but we have a stable of young RB's that are all getting a lot of buzz right now between Pollard, Weber, and Chunn and for some reason the Cowboys went out and signed Alfred Morris.

What other team would sign Morris if they invested 2 draft picks in the RB position and the RB's are actually looking good in camp?

The only reason to sign a guy like Morris is blitz pickup but with the RB position it's almost always better to go with youth over a 30 year old Vet.

Chunn is a big power back that is shifty.

Weber is an all around guy with vision.

Pollard is an all around guy that could be a Alvin Kamara or Percy Harvin type of player potentially.

When Zeke finally comes back then what? Keep 4 RB's?

Morris should've signed with New Orleans. That was a mistake by him.

Now the RB's may look terrible starting Saturday night but I'm expecting them to shine and be the story of the Pre-season offensively.

I am not so keen with it either. I see him as a progress stopper for the other RB's. with 4 young RB's in TC and 2 FB's that one can be used as a RB if need be. It is not like they needed a camp body to reduce reps.

I think they may feel obligated to keep him, and therefore lose a decent or what could become a decent player in Weber or Chunn. Or even Jackson too.

Chunn is camp fodder and Weber can be stashed. They're only going to have 3 backs (including Olawale) active on game day, so it's good to have a veteran available - like they did with McFadden.

Small investment for a veteran presence. The other guys have little or no NFL experience.

The Cowboys could always choose to release him if they think he's unnecessary as opposed to, say, "honor his contract".

You do not want an unproven rookie starting against the Giants in Week 1.

Dak would get destroyed on a blitz.

Actually, you're late. The "do not like the Morris signing" line starts behind me. I didn't like it the moment they announced it. It screams "comfort" to me, and I hate it when this team makes moves based on familiarity and comfort over getting the best player, It never turns out well.

I'm fine with it.

Nothing wrong with Rookie RB's playing.

Let's see how they look in the pre-season first but if they look decent in pass protection then give me the upside.

I do not like Veteran RB's. Give me youth almost always unless they are terrible.

I really don't think they're worried about Zeke right now. They fully expect this to get done, and the reports are they are talking frequently.

Neither Chunn nor Weber are making the team with or without Morris.

If you paid close attention, the team actually gave the answer you are seeking. They said they typically carry 6 RBs in camp to spread out the workload and with Zeke not there, they were one short. They signed the available vet RB that was familiar with their offense and they all liked as a veteran presence in camp for the young RBs. It had nothing to do with how the other RBs were performing.

He’s not making the team. He’s here to give some stability to the RB room through the preseason games and to take some of the reps in pass pro in camp so they can get a good luck at other positions. He’s competition for Jackson, I guess, but that’s about it.

I don't either Catch.
The only way it makes sense to me is if they are bringing him in because he has such a great work ethic and is such a "Pro's Pro" that they want his example around the young-bloods

Why would you dismiss Weber this early?
I want to see what he looks like in preseason games before I would ever jump that far, this early.

I see what you did there.

They were simply 1RB short of the 6 they want in camp to distribute the workload. The team explained this when they signed him.

A buzz wearing shorts or with minimal contact doesn't prove much. When there is full contact will be a better judge, and preseason games a better judge still, but even then there are always training camp/preseason stars who never end up accomplishing anything in the NFL. Regular season games against actual NFL starters playing for real will be the true test. If the team waited that long to decide on bringing in a veteran RB it would be too late. You don't want to wait until your *** is already exposed and then scramble to try and cover it. You want to cover it in advance.

It's just not a worry for me because teams pull RB's out of thin air and put them in the game and get great production all of the time.

The RB position is all about volume and the only real worry here is pass blocking.
