A 1-0 stat after SNF will be great.

I don't care how they get there. A pretty win or an ugly win is still a win.

Wins and losses are stats. Touchdowns, which lead to points are stats. Sacks, which leads to fumbles are stats. Anything that has to do with sports will have stats. Time, chance, production, etc. Enjoy the games and stop outsmarting yourselves.

Let’s just say it like it is:

The vast majority of NFL fans don’t really understand football. They really don’t know what’s going on in the game.

They don’t fully grasp all of the intricacies of the sport.

Many of them rely on stats to tell them who is good, who is bad, and who they need to call trash. Really watching the sport - knowing the blocking techniques, the coverage, and understanding the chess matches that are going on between coaches and players - is rare these days.

It’s almost like the less they know… the stronger their opinions are.

“He’s trash!”

“He can’t block!”

“He couldn’t cover my Mom!”

All you can do is lol, and move on.

Exactly. Stats are misleading.. Case in point, Let's say Zeke runs the ball 6 times... The first one is a 50 yard run, Follow that with (qty 5) 2 yard runs... Yes that is 60 yards. In the eyes of the stat fanatic (without watching the game), Zeke averaged 10 yards per carry... Is Zeke really a 10 YPC running back? No. He got lucky he didn't get stuffed on 1 play....

What if each of those runs resulted in touchdowns? That would change your concept of those stats.

Point taken, but the more players you have on your team that can produce quality stats and analytics the more Ws you are going to see.
That would suggest each season, the team with the most points has the most players producing quality stats. However, the stats don't bear this out.

How so? I’m sure there will be exceptions but let’s look at the top 5 offenses by total yards last year…..
cowboys, bucs, chiefs, chargers, bills

the top 5 teams for total points….
Cowboys, bucs, bills, chiefs, chargers

I bet there is a direct correlation between giving up more yards on defense and giving up more points too.

Or they could score.

Where would that stat lead you?
So you want to force the issue into YOUR expectation? And not see the other side. THIS...sir..is how you abuse stats.

If you DO score...isn't that the MOST important stat? Whether it takes one play or ten. 1 yard or one hundred.

I am not saying all stats are useless. I am saying stats can be abused...like you are doing forcing a TD on an otherwise meaningless stat. You think the 99 yards MUST equal TD's and wins? Not the way it works. A penalty or turn over will turn those yards into nothing and that stat is rarely tracked.

If I may quote...there lies, damn lies, and then there are stats. It's not a rule..... just a cautionary tale.

Some would call it garbage stats. :muttley::popcorn:
It depends on who you "blame" for those big stats. AND...if you can figure out the real truth of who to balme for why you didn;t score.

Cognitive bias. People have it happening and don't even know what they are doing with it.

By the way.. I blame Zeke for EVERYTHING.

But what stats make a win? Which would you say is the most important stat that leads to the most important stat? ?

People judge players on their stats and if we won or not. Doesn't matter if it's their fault or not. We just blame who we want.

Zeke has no stats it MUST because he has a huge afro and SUCKS.

Because it;s not because of the terrible o-line, jack wagon OC "learn on the job" Moore, head coach who "won't get involved".......or Jerry ?

Luck might be the biggest stat...and not tracked. And that might be why we watch.

Has someone ever debated your comment with stats about our players? As we know players get stats from making positive plays during the game. My issue with this is, what has it gotten us recently in terms of wins and post season success??

All stats are good for are fantasy lovers, players, and their agents! We want our team to be successful, but I think the majority of us want them to be successful when it really matters! Please give me your thoughts, and try not to always bring up how many yards Zeke had or Romo had! It's getting old, losing is old!

Let's get this 6th ring!!!

I don't knock those who feel stats are meaningless....

Its amazing how it determines draft status, bonuses, playing time, job security, and most of all... Hall of Fame inductions. I also thought.... if stats didn't matter, why do most coaches and players have a stat sheet in front of them in post game conferences/interviews when breaking down the game in front of the media.... Its kind of ironic how much I've read how stats are meaningless for a few years now here on this board. Its seems like that way of thinking just started around here about 6, 7 seasons ago.

I wonder why it started then.

They surely don't understand football as good as YOU...so you know since you have your own NFL team and all that. Owner/GM/Head coach/players......you should show us your Lombardi's .

Yes, stats are used as a last resort when examples of great things cannot be used. Stats have no context. They're your best friend if you're trying to lie.
People show the stats that support their agenda and ignore the ones that do not.

# 1 offense in the league. 0-1 in playoffs. Damn! that leaves a heavy mark!
