Exactly. Stats are misleading.. Case in point, Let's say Zeke runs the ball 6 times... The first one is a 50 yard run, Follow that with (qty 5) 2 yard runs... Yes that is 60 yards. In the eyes of the stat fanatic (without watching the game), Zeke averaged 10 yards per carry... Is Zeke really a 10 YPC running back? No. He got lucky he didn't get stuffed on 1 play....

Great points. Now when Zeke and his agent went into negotiations for that max contract.... have you ever seen a section on his resume that says this is the "meaningless stat" section, so the front office won't pay money for that.... Nope... ya dont. You're paid to produce. Why do management put bench mark clauses for bonuses if players reach a certain STAT while performing??

Now 100% of stats don't hold weight, like Hail Mary interception, etc.... but it sure is funny how fans would try to humiliate quarterbacks for throwing, lets say.... 20 ints. But 6 of them could have happened on Hail Marys. People don't separate that fact, they just clump all of the interceptions in to make their point. Can't have it both ways....

Stats are for people that don't understand what they are seeing to better follow the game.

They are misleading and without context pointless.

Wrong, there are things you can't see during a game broadcast, unless you are in the building, in meetings, know the scheme or responsibility of each player, you just can't see everything. I see you really don't understand the game.

I'm glad stats are a thing so you can better enjoy the game, friend.

Stats has always been a part of the game, even you argue using Stats. Stats get players paid, voted MVP, voted All pros, and voted for HOF.
Please explain how Stats means nothing.
I didn't say they mean nothing.

They clearly allow people that don't know what they're watching better follow the game.

I said they can be misleading and are pointless without context provided with them.

Stats aren't for people who don't understand what they're seeing, they tell what a player or team did on the field. Context is what's subjective.

No you're insinuation is that folks

Lol ok. That’s why all franchises have moved to the ‘money ball’ concept

This line of thinking is extremely flawed. Yes, he was a 10YPC RB for that day. What is the difference in your scenario and gaining 10yds on each 6 carries? The whole "well take away all these good plays". Why? Those good plays count, even if they happen in chunks. 50yd run is a huge swing. It totally flips field position no matter where the run occurred.

Stats aren't misleading. It's literally what is happening in the game. How you interpret them and judge them is another thing but stats are stats. And there are tons of advanced metrics to take them to more in depth levels.

Did anyone get the stats on tonight's game? I need to figure out who did what.

You didn't tag me to anything.

FF is all about stats anyways. This proves nothing.
He was refering to the yahoo pickem league I put up for this season.
It isnt fantasy football, you just pick the winners of all the games that occur each week, trying to pick more right than the other guys.
you have a win loss record, and there will be a winner at end.

A bunch of us do it each year.
I started 0-1 as I picked the rams to win at home lol. Hopefully I do better sunday

The info is in the fantasy game forum.. group id and pw etc.

the tag was @MountaineerCowboy in that thread or some other one.
should show up in your alerts, if you check those.

Has someone ever debated your comment with stats about our players? As we know players get stats from making positive plays during the game. My issue with this is, what has it gotten us recently in terms of wins and post season success??

All stats are good for are fantasy lovers, players, and their agents! We want our team to be successful, but I think the majority of us want them to be successful when it really matters! Please give me your thoughts, and try not to always bring up how many yards Zeke had or Romo had! It's getting old, losing is old!

Let's get this 6th ring!!!
I have this sneaking suspicion that it's entirely too easy to overthink this stuff.
Let's just play sound football and forget the incidentals. :flagwave:

This is just football, not rocket science!! o_O

OK So let's take away that 1 lucky 50 yard play? Would you say Zeke is worth the money he makes on 2 yards per carry (again just going with my example)? So how would my line of thinking be flawed? Stats are stats and the end all be all according to you.
