I don't get it since nobody was praising the receivers last year

Nobody was praising the receivers last year. I'm a huge Witten fan but he was obviously hanging on. Dez was okay except for the drops and bad routes and distractions of being a "competitor." Everyone else is back and we have some free agents and rookies who could be better than average and perhaps develop into a good receiver corps. We have a new coach who the players rave about. So we lost a guy who retired and another who was, in my eyes, a distraction and added other key elements (like a coach and some guys willing to run routes) and yet our receivers will keep us from winning. Granted, they are the weakest link in the offense, but that is because the rest of the offense should be stellar.

As of now, our receiving corps and TEs are justly judged as the weakest combo in the league. It's fair to note that.

Unless someone really shines beyond Hurns, I'd be in favor of picking up a Hurns quality and priced WR to go with Hurns as a starter, though I'd probably want the new guy to be faster. That's some of the low hanging fruit to really improve the team.

The nice thing is that we've got new coaches and lots of new players. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of them shine. Best case scenario is Austin stepping up to be a legit outside WR and deep threat.

Regardless of what witten and dez once did they didn't do it anymore and they both were terribad last season.

The offense loses a gold jacket and the franchise leader in touchdowns so people panic. Neither of those guys were playing at that level when they departed but they had built big names for themselves, and that's the problem. People are looking at the names not the production.
 
Our receiving corps as a whole is a new group with a new coach and players and has yet to play a single down. The unknown freaks folks out and they start saying things that have no basis in fact. I'm not an advocate of making wild assertions about a group of our players without first allowing them the opportunity to prove themselves. They are at least worthy of that courtesy. Once training camp is in full swing and we've seen this group in a couple of preseason games, they are fair game for criticism. Until then I don't regard any critique of these guys having any merit.

When your reason for not being concerned is because you think they sucked so bad last year that it shouldn't be hard to equal last year - you should be concerned.

Lack of big name players at a position group drives fans insane.

The opposite is also true. Fans are comforted by big names.

We've seen endless posts where people are frantic about DT but near zero about LB; however, they have multiple players at DT that have shown legit NFL ability while they have 1 at LB.

Yes, there is excellent potential upside at LB but Vander Esch has never played a down in the NFL and Jaylon of 2017 was not really a legit NFL starter. Wilson didn't play much more than normal even when Lee and Hitchens were both out.

At DT Collins and Irving have shown above average NFL starter ability. Datone Jones has 5 years of NFL experience at age 27. If needed Crawford has shown about average NFL starter ability at DT.

Two of the top 3 Cowboys WRs for the past 4 seasons remain on the roster. Hurns has shown legit NFL starter ability. Thompson has shown the ability to contribute as a deep threat. Tavon Austin got a 42M contract after his rookie contract. He must have done some things well.

Yes. Both were TERRIBLE last year.

The volume of catches reflect mostly the volume of targets. A lot of balls went his way.

Overall he graded out just average, according to Pro Football focus, and NFL.com notes his receiving was down and his “usual stellar blocking began to fall off”.

He was still an above average TE. Still better that 90% of the leagues TEs.
PFF stats are useless . I seen him play last year,His blocking did not begin to fall.
