The obvious just doesn't happen. 90% of the people in the forum see it. But changes don't happen.

1. Why haven't we changed kick returners. Put Miles or Dez back there.
2. Why does Marion Barber get so much playing time and continue to start?
3. Why did it take 4-5 weeks to get the ball to Felix consistently?
4. Why does Bueler directionally kick instead of kick it in the end zone. Especially when coverage has been suspect?
5. Why don't we cut a slacker like Bigg Davis to send a message of accountability to the team?

I have never seen sports leadership (at any level) so challenged to make changes and send hard messages. It is really mind boggling to me. They (Jones, Wade, Garrett?) consistently 'talk' themselves out of changing anything through some sort of over-analysis or flawed logic. Or maybe they just lack guts or ****.

Try something different for crying out loud.

You don't get rid of Bigg right now because you have Kosier with his injury issues as well as Holland.

Getting rid of Bigg (right now) leaves you short at OG even if it is only at depth.

Have a feeling we will see some different players on the O-Line this time next year with contracts coming up and some players needing to be replaced with Bigg being one of those that need replaced along with Columbo.

Getting rid of a player at a position that you are short at (due to injuries) is sending a message...a message that you are stupid for cutting a player in a position you are short at right now.

1. We've changed kick returners quite often over the last few years. I doubt they want to risk Austin or put too much on Dez's plate....and besides...it looks like AOA is getting the hang of it now. He's got some ability.
2. Makes me want to scream. Barber is done. I have no idea what the team sees in him at practice that isn't showing up on the field.....and if they aren't seeing something we aren't, then its pretty illustrative of the type of leadership this team has. Playing the guy with the big contract....
3. See: #2....and see: Jason Garrett.
4. He has been kicking into the endzone the last two games. He was hurt warming up for game 1.....it showed.
5. Probably because our depth on the Oline is pretty bad. Getting rid of Bigg, as bad as he's been, would simply put us in an even worse position. If his backup was capable of taking over...benching him would be the appropriate course of action. We did that...but injuries have tied our hands at this point.

Because their primary responsibility is to be WR, at least it is for Miles. Dez will prolly return kicks because AOA will prolly be out with an ankle sprain.

2. Why does Marion Barber get so much playing time and continue to start?
Barber could play the whole first series and play nothing but the 3rd down the rest of the game. Not sure why it matters whether who starts is a problem for some people. That said, to me Barber produces the same as he always has when he has room to run. You need 4. He can prolly get you 4 or 6. He's not exactly the reason the run game is struggling.
3. Why did it take 4-5 weeks to get the ball to Felix consistently?
The line isn't exactly blocking like roadgraders. So even now that Felix is getting more snaps, he isn't exactly breaking homeruns every carry either.

4. Why does Bueler directionally kick instead of kick it in the end zone. Especially when coverage has been suspect?
Maybe that's why he's told to directionally kick. If you can bury them in a corner, the coverage SHOULD have a better chance to get to the returner. The ST coverage is somewhat suspect enough to where these guys are running it out of the end zone anyway and still picking up 30 yards a pop.

5. Why don't we cut a slacker like Bigg Davis to send a message of accountability to the team?
Because the team doesn't have enough guards as it is. They had two real guards on the roster last week. Bigg and a rookie. Costa did OK, but it's obvious he wasn't really ready to be out there. The backup guard was a converted tackle.

Not to be critical but you guys should join Jerry's advisory committee;) This is exactly the thinking that you can't have as a leader when the results aren't there. Make some changes. Take risks. The reason you don't start Barber is because you need to create an atmosphere of accountability. This means the best players start and play. I don't care if he just plays one play, Barber starting even though he isn't performing sends the message that there is little accountability. Little accountability means mistakes, lack of focus and losses.

We're keeping it Vanilla for 2011.

It was the plan all along.

I addressed every point you made and offered an idea of why some things were done the way the were, you accuse me of being a Jerry shill, and dialed in on Barber as a mark of accountability. I wonder why I even bother commenting sometimes.

They made the change with Barber weeks ago. He starts one series and is the short yardage back the rest of the time. He's not even on the field most of the time anymore. How does making Barber officially the backup push accountability? How is that taking a risk? How is that showing leadership NOW?

There are 53 players, four of which were inactive due to injury last week, so there were only 49 players eligible to play on game day. In order to field a team, no matter how ineffective, you can't cut or bench every non-producing player, otherwise you might as well forfeit.

WG made an excellent point about Beuhler not kicking it into the end zone.

She did, but he's admitted he's not very comfortable with it. That alone is enough for me to wait on directional kicks. Let him boom it until he's actually good at it...IMO.

Sorry WG didn't mean to offend ;)

In my opinion he should boom it every time unless we're facing a week kick return team.

I'd rather force the opponent to go 80 yards for a score every time. Every once in a while you'll get a sack or they'll get flagged for holding which will put them back around the 10, and then you're in a long 1st down situation. Field position victory.

You didn't offend. I'm not THAT sensitive.

Forgive me for trying to respond to your rant with something resembling a discussion-worthy post.

Carry on. I won't interrupt again.

I don't want to cut one single person on the roster until we have a coaching staff who can not only evaluate talent, but put them in a posistion to succeed. Then let the cuts begin.

Hey everyone:

Barber is starting because according to a coach (through ESPN I think), our OC wants to set a "physical tone" from the opening kickoff.

That physical tone has resulted in 3 points per game in first quarters this season. We're not exactly knocking them back on their heels.

Looks like the OC should try another philosophy.

Barber is averaging 3.0 yards per carry this season (sadly that's better than Choice's 2.6 ypc). It's tough running between the pipes this season.

Or maybe Barber is doing the running because Felix hasn't been in shape (by his own admission) and has stepped up his cardio in recent weeks. That's another subject.

It's time to watch the Lingerie League. At least those players are in shape.

That makes as much sense as anything, I guess. I've never bought the idea that Jerry made the coaches start certain guys, but I was starting to wonder on this particular one.

I do remember JG absolutely gushing about Barber after '07, so I can buy this. He also was the only one of him, Jerry, Wade, and Stephen who seemed to refuse to admit Felix should play more a few weeks ago.
