I dont like 2 teams in each conference getting the bye....I dont like 1 team getting the bye, but I can live with a single team earning a first round bye because they have the best record..

I think 7 teams should make the playoffs in each conference.....

1 Seed = 1st round bye

Wildcard Round Per Conference
GAME 1: 2 vs 7
GAME 2: 3 vs 6
GAME 3: 4 vs 5

Divisional Round Per Conference
GAME 1: 1 vs 4, 1 vs 5, 1 vs 6, 1 vs 7
GAME 2: 2 vs 3, 2 vs 4, 2 vs 5, 3 vs 4, 3 vs 5, 4 vs 6, 5 vs 6

Conference Championship
Game 1 winner vs Game 2 winner

However, I firmly feel that best record should only get you HCA throughout the playoffs and not a first round bye....However, if you eliminate the first round bye you would have to either subtract the wildcard teams or add 2 more wildcard teams.....i think if you add two more it waters down the playoffs, but it also adds revenue and makes the last 2-3 weeks a lot more interesting. However, it would also cause television scheduling conflicts for the wildcard round...Games would have to be at 10, 1, 4, 7 est for each day.

And if they added two more teams it would go like this per conference.

Wildcard Playoff
1-8
2-7
3-6
4-5

Divisional Playoff
1-8 winner vs 4-5 winner
2-7 winner vs 3-6 winner

Conference Championship

I personally like the 7 team scenario better than the current or even 8 team scenario.

I'd be happy if there was only one wildcard- no way Dallas, NYFG, or KC deserves to be in the playoffs.

I think it works out well and we have the right number of teams in the playoffs. Just last year Dallas missed the playoffs at 9-7 and would've missed at 10-6 even if we had beat the Rams the last week. Some years like this, there may be a wildcard team or two that don't deserve it, but if so, they will be eliminated early and it won't matter.

With 32 teams, 12 in the postseason is a good number. 10 worked years ago when there were only 28 teams and 3 divisions in each conference. I dont' have a problem with all 4 divisional winners and 2 wildcard teams from each conference making the playoffs.

I'm a football junkie but four quality games this weekend would be much better than adding junk games. 8-8 teams should not be getting into the playoffs.

How would you fix it?

10-6 teams shouldn't be left out of the playoffs. Last year we would've still missed even if we went 10-6. If they went back to only 5 teams per conference, then you'd see only one wildcard team, and there would regularly be some 9-7 and 10-6 teams stay home.

12 teams with all 8 division winners and then 2 wildcards per conference is just right.

so basically you want half the league in the post season

Right now theres 6 teams from each conference make it! The poster wants 7. How does 1 more team from NFC and AFC = half the league. And if only 1 team gets a bye, that means there will be 1 more game. So replacing a 'free' week for the #2 seed in order to allow 1 more team get in, is a good idea.

I think throwing around 1st round byes in a tournament is a ridiculous advantage for a participant, but I don't think a change now is necessary. Its been this way for a long time. If there were more teams added, I can see the benefit in this.

Bye weeks suck regardless.

But at the same time I prefer the guys that earned it to get the extra luxury.

well cause 16 teams = half the league, and the guy wants 14 teams in the post season. there for he BASICALLY wants half the league in the playoffs. also those teams earned 1st round bye's from posting the 2 best conference records. if you ask me, there is too many teams in the post season as it is now.

Us at Seattle sounds like a junk game, and New York at Philadelphia sounds even worse, because we've already seen it twice this year, and as recently as 3 weeks ago.

Lets put it this way...

The NFL's Playoff system is much better than the BCS [which is nothing more than a beauty contest.]

The day the NFL implements the BCS, is the day I stop watching football.

I wouldnt be surprised to see them add 2 more teams in each conference and do away with the Byes altogether. Not so much just to get 2 more teams in but because of the supposed competitive advantage having a week off gives a team in a sport like this.

Didnt Jerry even say they were discussing that a lil bit?
