I don't think I had ever fully appreciated Aikman until today

Even through the QC/Chutch days, it never really occured to me until today how amazing Troy really was and how much I miss him. A QB who knew exactly when to throw it deep, when to throw it away and when to just eat it. He was the coolest customer around in clutch games and rarely, if ever, put us in the kind of position that Bledsoe did today.

Why did the 90s ahve to come and go so quickly? :(

He's the best there is hands down.

I agree. Calls it how it is. If you don't like how he's called a game chances are your team lost.

Honestly, he could have put the uni on today and outplayed Bledsoe.

He is, but he was too Eagle's "homerish" today that it made me notice.
Maybe it is because the Iggles made plays and we didn't.

People, to point out the obvious isn't being "homerish". The Eagles WON TODAY, did you notice? The Cowboys made BAD PLAYS TODAY. Tell me what Aikman was supposed to say?

He should always say the cowboys and all of the cowboys players are the best and no matter how they play should always say good things about the boys and bad things about the other team and other players.

/sarcasm off.

Aikman behind that O-Line today would have had the same result, he always threw to a spot and if your guys don't get there you have to hope the other team doesn't either. Aikman was as mobile as DB and when he did run he always got his brain scrambled.

You guys kill me. Did you even watch his career? My goodness man, Aikman was very mobile until back problems locked him up. He was very mobile through about 1993-94.

And yes, he did have bad games just like all QB's do, but in his prime, they were few and far between. Have you noticed, he's in the ring of honor, has 3 SB rings, and is in the hall of fame, to even compare him to Bledsoe is to be in the wrong ball park.

What!! Are you kidding!! Aikman had so much talent on his side of the ball, Garcia could have QBed that team and took them to 3 SBs. ;) ;)

I actually like Aikman as a broadcaster. His analysis is usually spot on.

I definitely miss him as our starting QB. No doubt he could take this team further than bledsoe or any other the other hacks we have had parading through Valley Ranch the last few years.

most hate him on here because he usually broadcasts our games on days like these, so he doesn't usually paint a rosy picture, can you blame him?

My main criticism of Aikman is that some of his analysis is questionable.

For example, on the second INT he and Buck both blamed TO for the INT when Bledsoe underthrew the ball. He seemed, like the rest of the media, to have something of an axe to grind with TO.

Actually, Bledsoe's last interception reminded me of when Aikman had a chance to beat the Eagles in 1996. We had the ball at their 3-yard line trailing 24-21 in the final 30 seconds. But Aikman threw a horrible interception that was returned for a touchdown to seal the Eagles' win.

We have a winner! I thought the same thing.

You think that's a coincidence?

I think he's bad luck.

I wonder what the cowboys' record is when Aikman calls the games.

Mistakes spell doom for Dallas

Eagles pick off Aikman for last-minute TD, 31-21

By Denne H. Freeman, Associated Press writer

IRVING, Texas -- Troy Aikman made two uncharacteristic mistakes, and the Eagles made him pay for their first victory in Texas Stadium in five years.

Aikman threw an interception to set up the Eagles' go-ahead field goal, then served up a second interception just trying to throw the ball away from the 3 yard line. The second mistake was returned for the clinching touchdown in the Eagles' 31-21 victory yesterday over the Dallas Cowboys.

"I wasn't trying to complete the pass," said the veteran Aikman, who has three Super Bowl rings. "I was trying to get rid of it. I should have taken the sack or thrown it out the end zone. It was a bad play."

Linebacker James Willis intercepted Aikman's last-minute pass 4 yards into the end zone, ran to the 10 and lateraled to Troy Vincent, who went 90 yards for a touchdown with 12 seconds left, shocking the defending Super Bowl champions as they appeared to be going for the game-winner.

The Eagles are now 7-2 in the NFC East, and the eight-point favorite Cowboys dropped to 5-4 and in danger of missing the playoffs. Philadelphia had lost nine of its last 10 games against Dallas and hadn't won in Texas Stadium since a 24-0 shutout in 1991.

"I told Troy I wouldn't trade him for any other quarterback in America," Dallas coach Barry Switzer said. "He's a champion, but this will hurt him for a long time."

Safety James Fuller picked off Aikman's pass at the Dallas 35 to set up Gary Anderson's go-ahead 30-yard field goal with 3:19 to play, giving the Eagles a 24-21 edge.

But Aikman rebounded to drive Dallas to the Eagles 3, where on third down Willis made his big play. Willis decided to run the ball out, then looked around and saw Vincent, who went all the way untouched including a strut over the last three yards for the score as the Eagles celebrated wildly.

"When I saw him (Willis) intercept the ball I was calling his name, hoping he heard me," Vincent said. "And he did. We were just looking to make a big play out of it. I didn't see anybody on that side of the field and I just kept going. I was going to try to score. We had nothing to lose.

"We felt this could be the game for the division championship. And it was a war. A 60-minute dogfight."

Willis said, "I went over to cover the tight end (Tyji Armstrong) and the ball came to me. Then I heard Troy calling my name."

Eagles coach Ray Rhodes said, "It's probably the biggest road win in my tenure. Our defense made the plays they had to make. I'm sure we'll see Dallas again somewhere down the line in the playoffs."

Emmitt Smith's 7-yard touchdown run, his second of the day, and Aikman's conversion pass to tight end Eric Bjornson tied the game at 21-all with 10:14 to go.

Smith's two touchdowns give him 105 rushing scores in his NFL career, moving him to No. 4 on the career list one ahead of John Riggins.

"It doesn't mean much when you lose a game like this," Smith said.

Yeah, I miss Aikman as a player.

As an analyst, I was disappointed with him today. He seemed very anti-Cowboys today, and I actually saw for the first time what many have said on this forum, concerning this. He seemed to excessively tow the media company line, along with Joe Buck who kept reinforcing the TO image of screaming on the sidelines stirring up trouble.

Even Jaworski - the Eagles homer - doesn't say as much to look "objective" towards his team. Hell, that's why he's labelled a "homer."

Aikman disappointed me today.

What game were you watching?
