I dont think McCarthy survives a bad season

If this team underperforms and has a bad season..I
I look for McCarthy to be fired. Now hopefully he rights the ship and gets this team back on track or he's going to get his walking papers. Quinn will replace him I'm sure if this happens.
Mccarthy is definitely gone if they have a bad season. If they don't at least reach the nfc championship game and the offense is to blame, he could still get the boot in order to promote any retain Quinn.

This team is too talented not to win a couple games in the playoffs. If Dak plays poorly in the playoffs again it could also mean the end of him in Dallas (or at least should mean the end of him). I know he played well against Tampa, but that was a BAD team with a washed QB.

When was the last time Jerry fired a HC? Jerry doesn't care about a bad season, but he would make a move if Mike loses the locker room. I doubt they fall to that level. Even only winning 8-9 games wouldn't make the players revolt that bad.

Gracias.

When Jones was sane, he did not pink slip Jimmy Johnson after 1-15 and 7-9.

After his schism, Jones:
  • kicked Barry Switzer to the curb the following season, Switzer's first non-playoff year, after losing in the wild card round the year before
  • peeled Dave Campo off him after three consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance
  • kept Parcells after two consecutive non postseason years
  • stuck with Wade Phillips after a 9-7 no playoff season and technically 86'd Phillips mid season two years later
  • stood by his man Jason Garrett after three straight 8-8 .500 seasons. And a 4-12 season. And a 9-7 season. All ending with no postseason play.
  • allowed Mike McCarthy to continue sitting beside his center chair at press conferences after a no playoff 6-10 season.
Odds? Jones will not fire McCarthy if the team does not make the playoffs this year.
You forgot Chan Gailey (most people have). He made the playoffs both seasons and Jerry thought Campo would be an upgrade.

After a 2-0 start, if the Cowboys end up missing the playoffs I’ll be shocked if McCarthy is back.

Chan Gailey got fired because he refused to change the offense. Troy Aikman wasn’t happy with it and it wasn’t working. Although the Cowboys made the playoffs during Gailey’s final season with the Cowboys in 99 they went 8-8 and lost by 17 points to Minnesota in the playoffs. They went one and done at home to a Jake Plummer led Arizona team the previous season after sweeping the NFC East. No one was happy with the offense and Gailey said immediately after the 99 season, that if there’s going to be a change to the offense he wouldn’t be the head coach. He was fired two days later.

Until Jerry lets a coach build a team, we won’t know if they are any good. MM is cooking in the jones kitchen.

Jerry gave Garrett a decade to figure things out, I don’t think he will can McCarthy unless the team just completely collapses in epic fashion.

Yeah. It’ll be DQ’s team. Then they could hire an elite offensive mind for coordinator and draft one of the many good QBs in this years draft.

Ridiculous the threads that are started around here after a loss.

It’s as bad as the Super Bowl talk after a win.
We know whats going to happen, its not just a "loss" its who you loss against and how. This organization isn't ready to bounce back, they will keep loosing stupid games.

Next 5 games will probably decide our season...McCarthy's last stance.

All true but @RomoIsGod 's criteria was 'miss the playoffs'. As you said, Gailey got that done but still got canned in favor of Campo.

Define 'bad season'. This forum alone has seen hundreds of threads and posts over the past two decades of this or that coach getting fired after a 'bad season'. Then the same members saw the same coach coaching the very next season.
Well...Jerry thinks we have a SB team, so basically another early exit from the playoffs could be enough to do it.

Agreed. Jerrah can’t be spewing about how great this team is in fact the most talented he has ever had and then watch them go down in flames. Mike is not like his son Garrett so Jerrah won’t give him a decade if that happens.

Would someone please remind me when was the last season that the Cowboys didn't royally screw up at least one game they should have won....

Yeah, I remember how it went down. It's fine to fire Gailey in that situation. The ridiculous part is replacing him with Dave Campo.

The Jerry Jones Era

  • Dave Campo is the only head coach whose team never made the postseason
  • Chan Gailey was fired after his team's second consecutive wildcard appearance and defeat
  • Bill Parcells resigned after his team's second wildcard appearance and defeat
Everyone else:
  • Jimmy Johnson's team lost in the divisional round, reloaded and won back-to-back Super Bowls. His eventual exit was not due to an early playoff exit
  • Barry Switzer's team bowed out of NFC Championship and Divisional games but he returned the next season each time
  • Wade Phillips' team short-circuited in two Divisional round games but he returned after each playoff loss
  • Jason Garrett's team imploded in three Divisional round games but he came back to FIGHT after each postseason ending
  • Mike McCarthy's team has visited the wildcard and Divisional rounds then went fishing but he came back for more
Perhaps it depends how the breeze is blowing through Jones' ears after a pre-Super Bowl round loss..? Maybe he will have a Chan Gailey flashback and say enough is enough..? Or he will say to himself he does not love McCarthy as much as he did Garrett..? I do not know. On average, he has shown to have a slow trigger finger after early playoff exits.
