I don't think we should be too excited over our rivals' picks at this time!

It's very early in the off season, and for rookies learning a new system, picking up the playbook may be difficult because of the new terminolgy and formations, etc. It's not shocking that Brady Quinn and Kevin Kolb may be struggling this early with bad play because they're thinking so much, so i will hope these struggles continue during the season, as to elevate our draft status (Browns' #1), and the Eagles fall from their perch. I remember Aikman saying his head was spinning trying to learn Dave Shula's offense as a rookie.

I can imagine it's a huge adjustment. And this is coming from someone whose experience is moving frm JV to Varsity in HS. Takes a second to get used to everyone being bigger and faster. Not to mention relearning everything, and the depth you have to know the offense as a QB.

Well, you would also have to look it from the two teams' perspective. It's more likely that the Browns might slide with Quinn taking over the starting position. He only has to convince Romeo Crennel (sp?) that he's better than Charlie Frye. That wouldn't be too difficult to imagine since Frye is projected to be the starter.

That's not the case with Philadelphia. The Eagles will not bench Donovan McNabb this season regardless of how well Kolb could run the offense. He is the entrenched starter and only injury will supplant him. Kolb's chances of negatively affecting the Eagles' success totally depends upon McNabb hitting the IR. That's not an impossibility, but McNabb will try that much harder to remain behind center this season, even if it means playing through pain, because he knows what Kolb represents--namely, his true successor.

If the Eagles are going to slide, they will probably do moreso because of things which Kolb wouldn't have any control of, imo.

You kind of get the feeling that Reid saw what he liked with Kolb and is going to groom him. You know, like they used to do in the NFL. I don't think Kolb takes the starting job in the next 1-2 years unless McNabb gets injured. Then they probably measure boths guys progress and decide weather or not they want to keep Kolb behind McNabb or trade him.

McNabb probably will be able to fetch Philly at least a 2nd-3rd rounder in the next few years. So it wouldn't really be that bad an investment if Kolb turns out to be what the Eagles hope, and I hope not.

In a bigger picture sort of way, this pick probably wasn't so bad at all. But Philly could definately used some help at WR, maybe even on the DL.
