Witten is one of my all-time favorite Cowboys. However, I agree it’s time to move on.

Still, it saddens me to see the disrespect he gets from many “fans”. The man has represented the Star as well as anyone who’s
ever worn it.
I agree, Witten is indeed a great guy and was a great TE for the cowboys for a lot of years. He deserves a lot of respect. Nevertheless, I also agree it's time to move on.

One of the most indelible and memorable plays in my life is the one of Witten rumbling downfield without his helmet against Philthy ; he is the greatest TE in Cowboy's history (yes , above Ditka , BJ Dupree , and Novachek) , and will be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer and deservedly so.................But it truly is time to retire No#82......................Thanks for the memories...............................
if I read this one more time I'm going to.......! With all due respect...what makes Witten a 1st ballot HOFer? Do you know the history of Hall of Fame voting and the TE position?

I wouldn’t mind him back in the back up role to Jarwin but that isn’t happening. There are a lot worse tight ends in the league right now. Garrett and or Moore played Witten way too much this year.

Yeah OK. Here are the Tight ends who had the opportunities that Witten had last year, notice the dramatic difference in production, especially yards per catch. Then take a look at Jarwins numbers below Witten with HALF of the opportunities, that is the definition of PROGRESS STOPPER. And Don't tell me he's a great blocker, he is average at best at this point. It was a mistake last year, let's hope they do not repeat it.

Travis Kelce 97 catches 1229 yards 12.7 YPC 5TDs
Darren Waller 90 catches 1145 yards 12.7 YPC 3TDs
Zach Ertz 88 Catches 916 Yards 10.4 YPC 6TDs
George Kittle 85 Catches 1053 Yards 12.4 YPC 5TDs
Austin Hooper 75 Catches 787 Yards 10.5 YPC 6TDs
Tyler Higbee 69 Catches 734 Yards 10.6 YPC 3TDs
Mark Andrews 64 Catches 852 Yards 13.3 YPC 10TDs
Jason Witten 63 Catches 529 Yards 8.4 YPC 4TDs On 83 Targets
Blake Jarwin 31 Catches 365 Yards 11.8 YPC 3TDs On ONLY 41Targets

Which is more of an indictment his stats or the fact those that are in their prime can barely out produce him. Which of those TE are the 3rd or 4th option on their teams. I am not arguing he is old and in the sunset of his career, but saying he is progress stopper for Anthony Fasano JR is a bit much.

83 targets at 37 years old after a year off really speaks volumes on the ineptitude of the coaching here. Where as you had a golden opportunity to at least see if you have a future with Jarwin who had 41 targets. Those target numbers should've been reversed. Again stupidazzz coaching.

Everytime Jarwin had the ball, the dude was explosive YAC..... Witten he'd fall down immediately if he even caught it.

Each of the TEs named has a ring or two. Novacek was very underated and short career.

I dont mind him back if he takes more of a backup role. Who better to learn from?

Jarwin got treated like poo-poo by this coaching staff. Fire 'em JJ.

The only scenario I want Witten back would be if we have a late season injury to that position.

I'm not going to penalize Witten for having to endure Garrett while the others had the luxury of Landry and Jimmy..........................

Witten wasnt the problem. Our coaches not using him to our benefit was the problem. I dont mind having old man Witten on the team, but he needs to cede the starting job to Jarwin. Any coach with some balls would have made that move imo. If Jarwin faulters then you can always put Witten back in, but for the most part Jarwin was productive in his LIMITED opportunities.

We could have made the best of Wittens presence as a team leader and a clutch player. Instead we kept him on the field all the damn time while benching the more explosive and currently better player.

Agree.....worth mentioning though. However, he was anointed a leader (can't forgive the Cabo trip or the alleged BFF shenanigans with Romo/JG to undermine the passing game).

I (sort of) agree ; we all know what a partier Michael Irvin was and we never gave him crap because he performed when it mattered......................I believe the same can be said of Witten.

Look I love Witten and we can all agree he played too much this season. However, in a backup role or short yardage specialist would be fine to have him back. But hey, we'll leave it up to the new coach.

The HC sent them to Cabo. Yes very stupid, but it's not like they had practice or anything. That whole situation was ridiculous. But hard to blame the players when nothing was happening anyway. Just show up at the facility and throw the ball to yourself. Biggest game in over a decade and the organization sends the team on vacation?? lol
