I Forgive Owens

Some here may remember that when we signed Terrell Owens that I was one of the ones who was dead set against it. I said that I would not purchase any Cowboys apparel as long as he was on the team. And after his first year here with the bicycle outfit in training camp and the "accidental overdose" incident I was convinced that I was right in my conviction that signing him was the wrong thing to do.

Well, I have changed my mind. We have had two years now with no controversy that was not created by the media trying to find some. Owens has been a model citizen and by all accounts a great teammate. Therefore, I have rescinded my moratorium on Cowboys purchases. Though I still won't by an 81 jersey I have decided to go ahead and purchase a Marion Barber and a Tony Romo jersey.

I share your opinion. I will never purchase a #81, and I forbid my son to have one and/or have anyone buy it for him for B-day or X-Mass. Now I think TO has been fine here the past couple of years, and he is a stud WR and a game changer, however I still do not like all his antics, but i am in acceptance mode :)

Thats a pretty hard line to take. Its respectable and I see where you are coming from.

BUT.... TO is an inspirational figure, like him or not.

The guy overcame much adversity in his life and MADE himself a GREAT player.
How many people go through life and dont accel or achieve goals or surpass them.

Maybe your son will benefit from TO's story.

Anyone remember any of the posters who said they would never post here again?

He sort of won me over when he treated the kids we sent to his first football camp so well. Then I began to see the way the media would manipulate anything to create a story where there was none. What clinched it for me was Parcells' refusal to use his name and him not over reacting to it.

I agree with Jack that I would not buy his jersey (I don't buy any except original Cowboys with 2 exceptions), but I have grown to really like him.

When he and Romo bring the championship this season, everyone will love me some T.O.

Until he equals a good memory (like winning a super bowl or two) with the bad memory (star incident) I have, I will retain my jaded view of him.

I think the media does this because its about ratings. Even with Pacman all you hear about is his off field issues but not none of the Charity work and such. So i think you take media stuff with a grain of salt.

The only reason I didn't want him cause of when he stood on the star. I hate when the media says he isn't a HoF because of his disruptive behavior in the locker room. Honestly you would think he killed someone with the negative press he gets.

You all know how I despised this signing and #81. I fought tooth and nail and probably ruined several good threads. Apologies for that.

After last season I kinda knew this would happen as I have definitely softened my stance. It's hard not to smile when he smiles. It's freakin' infectious.

Anywho.........he's the games gamer. He works hard and has helped this football team tremendously. With no drama. Damn it all to hell he has gone above and beyond, alright? There, I said it.

I'm still callin' him #81.......................

I will never forgive TO for the star incident. However, he is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters now that he is on our team. He does have a good, creative sense of humor. The track thing was awesome. I will never buy or sport one of his jerseys. I try and stay to our drafted boys for apparel.

I'm on the list, too. Was very against signing him, but he's really grown up lately.

He still won't ever be my favorite player, and I'm still not sure he wouldn't boil over again if we hit a bad stretch. But he's been great most of his time here.

(Props also to Wade, Jerry, RJ, and Ray Sherman.)

The Star incident has scarred some of you for life, hasn't it?! I despised him (obviously not as much as some) for desecrating our beloved symbol but when I found out JJ was trying to sign him, I was all for it. His talent, IMO, simply trumped all of the bs that was associated with him. Now, almost three years later, we've had no problem outta T.O. and I'm actually happy he's donning the Star (which is something I'd never thought I'd say)!

Seriously! You forbid...wow just wow. Now I should not have an opinion on what you do with your son, but tell me what has Owens really done that bad. Does he like attention? Yes. Is he insecure at times? Yes (which probably has alot to do with his childhood). Now ask yourself does anyone work harder year round to be in the best ultimate condition. No. Owens has an excellent work ethic. Owens is a model citizen in the real world. You have never heard his name in anything suspect. He helps the unfortunate. The fact is Owens is a good guy. Period. He displays great attributes in a generation that has proved to be lazy and careless, especially when they are financially secure. I think TO represents the :starspin well.

Im cheering as hard as I can for him but I just dont think i'll ever like him.

He just seems like a crappy, and shady person to me.

Star.

Teaching your son to take pride in your team and stand by them through thick and thin. Not just jumping on the wagon and going with the trend.
