I Guess It's Peterson...

I just can not justify the move up - hope Jerry sees that also

I do not want to use 4 picks to get 2 players

Jerry can get a solid draft with out trading up

he can stick at 9

or trade back to get an OT an at least one extra pick

Unless he's surprisingly picked in the top 4. I expect him to last until 6 (maybe he goes at 5). If we have deals in place for 6 and maybe 5 it seems like that is what's likely to happen. I hope not. Having others fight for our pick and getting additional picks sounds much better to me. When so many teams are vying for our spot and we have a cluster of guys we're comfortable with in a trade-down, why not just let the draft come to us? If we move up for PP, he had better be a perennial All-Pro or it probably wasn't worth it.

I think hes gone by pick number 2

He's the best player in the draft at a need area, you can't ask for much more than that. Giving up a 3rd is a no brainer for us, he'll be a gamechanger for the next decade.

I still think PP would and could be a great safety. His personality could also be a great asset there before you even get into ball skills and athleticism.

And my opinion has nothing to do with his size, I think he would do just fine at CB.

I think he could be a stud safety too, luckily for us we have a giant hole there as well lol.

I don't really care where we play him, corner, safety, whatever... just get him on the field and put him in a position to make plays.

Compare our track record of keeping a high pick and using it versus trading down for more picks and tell me which approach we should bet on. I'm all in for trading up for Peterson. He's a guy who comes in and is a significant upgrade on Day One. Trade back and you stockpile picks for a group that has not been able to convert that strategy into a winning one. Why repeat past failures?

To play devils advocate, that suggests we need better talent evaluation in general. If not for the 2005 draft, we would have been in some really terrible shape the last couple of years.

I just hope they don't get too cute and mess this up.

Trade up and get PP or just take Smith at 9.

If they get a real good trade down offer than that is a good 3rd option as long as it's not too far down.
This is my preference in options exactly.

I agree 100%.

Maybe those who don't want to go get Peterson are actually hoping last year's secondary play, especially Jenkins, was a fluke...and maybe they're hoping Newman isn't gone as a Cowboy.

If the Cowboys see Newman walking out the door and don't have confidence in Jenkins and Scandrick, then you have a much bigger problem than OT.

We only carried 3 CBs last year, so we're already in trouble there.

If we get Peterson in round 1 and OL in round 2, I'm thrilled. All draft picks are valuable, but the kind of guys we might be looking for at LB, S, DE in round 3 are the same type of guys we can pick up later on.

CB is a very critical spot for us even if Newman stays a Cowboy.

If we draft PP what are the odds of Newman staying on the team?

It depends on a few things, if we have another uncapped year I think he will definitely be back.

If not, he'd have to restructure.

This is the move I want to happen. Last season was a fluke season, we're not a 9th worst team, it's a grace to have a pick this high so let's not waste it. To put a Peterson back2back in drafts with Dez, I'm suddenly starting to like the direction this team is going. Reminds me when Michael, Troy and Emmitt started piling on top of one another in draft years for us.

Now let's see this spark some reinvestment in Jenkins towards his own career and get him back to rookie form, we could be talking 3 back2back2back stellar 1st rounds.

I've never liked the ideal of going BPA this high up. And that's what I see us doing if we go OT or take someone like Watts. I'm also not onboard with throwing away a top 10 pick. Like I said, it's a grace to have it, and really at the end of the day a 3rd to move up is not that much.
