A bit of an easygoing thread and I found it humorous to bring up since it’s still not season time yet. I had a dream last night that we win the Super Bowl next season and Dak lifts the Lombardi. I’ve only ever had this dream once before and ironically enough it was the season before our last superbowl win. I’m not a Dak fan, but recently I’ve had a strange feeling we could at least make the nfccg this upcoming season. Does anybody else here feel like next season might be our season?
It's nice to dream. Seriously though, we are usually good when I have zero expectations.

Perfect example of why Cowboys fans have the lowest I.Q. out of any fan base on earth.

I Have A Dream by ABBA (click here for video)

I Have a Dream, a song to sing
To help me cope, with anything
If you see the wonder, of a fairy tale
You can take the future, even if you fail

I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I Have a Dream

I Have a Dream, a fantasy
To help me through, reality
And my destination, makes it worth the while
Pushin' through the darkness, still another mile

I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I Have a Dream
I'll cross the stream, I Have a Dream

I Have a Dream, a song to sing
To help me cope, with anything
If you see the wonder, of a fairy tale
You can take the future, even if you fail

I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I Have a Dream

I'll cross the stream, I Have a Dream

I have hope every season because it’s always a new team with new coaches and an owner that’s getting older and may soon relinquish control.
lost me at Jerry may soon relinquish control bud...sadly I don't see this

Only in a Dream will Prestrash ever lift the Lombardi trophy for any team in the NFL. :muttley:

Probably not, but at some point the family is going to pull him from the mic, yes?

Not that the kid is any better, but some of the stuff is getting a little wacky, and it’s making them look like fools (which is nothing new), and now also liars with the all in crap.

It is a highly unlikely probability unless the family has been afforded a diagnosis stating Jerry Jones has been determined medically as mentally incompetent. Jones will remain his personal and professional autonomy if-and-until that happens, regardless how old he may age.

Of course, the family could sue for control of the franchise. Those types of legal squabbles occur but they do not manifest within family-owned businesses as often as they do outside such business organizations. Any greed melodrama breakdown between Jones and any of his DNA Kids would be extremely entertaining. Well. It would be for me at least, lol.

So you can remember dreams from three decades ago? Sounds like a Stephen King novel.

It will not happen under the Jones family.

Didn’t mean things getting to the ugly stage amongst the family.

Clearly Jerry has voluntarily given some things up behind the scenes. He can’t be pushing 90 and out there making comments about the upcoming game, etc. The kids know this I’m sure, so you’d figure it to happen at some point, but when?

Anything Jones has given up on has been voluntary. Anyone can project themselves as 'The Man' while doing less micromanaging but still retaining full control of specific operations. That is the case with Jerry Jones.

So, the hypothetical is the DNA Kids taking their father's full control from him, correct? How will they accomplish that action without his voluntary consent if he is not senile as some people (not you necessarily) casually or seriously imply? Answer: it would be necessary for them to do so against his independent wish. In other words, any action would be done by force.

I have occasionally humorously described my observation of some folks' perspective of Jerry Jones as some crazy, homely uncle they might have within their family. He is not.

Outside his inadequacies as a football operations manager, Jones' life illustrates a strongly willed individual. He has dealt with failure and attained enormous wealth and fame through personal perseverance. He has fought tooth-and-nail for both his personal and professional objectives. He enjoys being the general public's central topic of conversation. He relishes the spotlight. He has acted defiantly in the face of public opinion.

All this Jones has demonstrated within the public eye for nearly 40 years of his 81 cycles on Earth. Is it not logically presumptuous believing his personality will morph into what some observers think is agreeable to how they think he should act?

I disagree. Right or wrong, I can foresee the man getting wheeled around from microphone to microphone like Detective Ironside (young folks can google the reference) until he is unable to physically do so. I do not foresee Stephen, Charlotte and/or Junior preventing him from living his life the way he sees fit.

ON THE OTHER HAND, it is a fact of life that some people can mentally regress. 21st century medical science has discovered ways of slowing mental deterioration but not halt it. Jones' billions would not be able to offset the same eventuality that poor people cannot deflect. It would be nice if science could one day but without any I Am Legend consequences, lol.

I am digressing but what I am saying is that the most likely, real-life, scenario is Jones doing what Jones has always done before--albeit more slowly. Time is the great equalizer for us all. How Jones' future fate will play out is still firmly different than how outsiders think it shall.

The most realistic part of the whole “I dreamed about a Cowboys super bowl” is it takes a dream or extreme luck now for most of us to believe this can happen this year.

The last 2-3 years it was somewhat believable to think based on the team we had and their seeding, especially in 2023. Now? It has to be part of a fantasy dream or part of some magical intervention by Lady Luck.

Interesting observations, probably mostly if not entirely true.

My comment wasn’t really meant beyond something like…”Dad, some of your comments have been a bit off lately and maybe it’s time to take a step back from speaking publicly,”and he listens. I get the feeling that conversation re football ops has already happened some time ago.

We are well on our way with the ‘all in,’ when that clearly wasn’t the plan, the scribble pad, the ‘we are drafting 24th because we are the 24th best team, etc…’

Jerry is only in this to be a celebrity, and he will probably go out kicking and screaming in that regard. Yeah maybe he is still sharper than many, but the filter gets thinner with time, and he will never believe that anyone is better than him at anything.

Bold> Here's the thing: Jones has listened to what his family, friends, acquaintances and strangers have told him his entire life. He has shown everyone (literally) what he does or does not do with anyone's advice for decades.

Edit: I believe I will post past advice given to Jones that Jones himself has confirmed publicly as an example.

Sure.

I’d add that giving up some behind the scenes control of football ops when he can still take all his ‘credit’ publicly if things go well, and stepping out of being the face of the franchise are two different things.

But it’s bound to get worse, and interesting if they don’t try to reel him in and/or he doesn’t listen.

Jones is no one's Uncle Jerry. :muttley: Here are Jones' comments I mentioned earlier (link):

According to Jones, one of Switzer's first acts when he visited with Jones at Valley Ranch in 1994 was to make peace between the two former Hogs.

"Barry Switzer came in the office and Jimmy had just left," Jones said. "And, so, Barry came down from Norman, Oklahoma, to talk about getting the job. And he comes in and he said, 'Where's Jimmy?'"
Switzer couldn't accept Jones' explanation that Johnson had departed the organization and wasn't coming back.
Said Jones: "I said, 'Barry, Jimmy's gone. We're sitting here talking about you being the coach.' I said, 'What in the world are you so anxious to talk to Jimmy about?'
"He said, 'I just want to get both you little <expletive> on this couch and ask you both how could you [mess] this up.' That was Switzer."

_____________________

Jimmy Johnson was gone and he was not returning. Even so, Jones had tremendous respect for Switzer. Jones could have reflected upon what Switzer said at THAT time, tried to arrange a meeting between all three men and, with Johnson's consent, discuss what happened.

Not change what happened. Confront and acknowledge what had happened. That bit of indirect advice was ignored.

That was an example of inflexibility Jones had at 51. He retains the same inflexibility at 81. In my opinion, there is practically zero reason to believe he will change if he reaches 91. He is still the same man. Just my two cents.
