Sure.
I’d add that giving up some behind the scenes control of football ops when he can still take all his ‘credit’ publicly if things go well, and stepping out of being the face of the franchise are two different things.
But it’s bound to get worse, and interesting if they don’t try to reel him in and/or he doesn’t listen.
Jones is no one's Uncle Jerry.
Here are Jones' comments I mentioned earlier (
link):
According to Jones, one of Switzer's first acts when he visited with Jones at Valley Ranch in 1994 was to make peace between the two former Hogs.
"Barry Switzer came in the office and Jimmy had just left," Jones said. "And, so, Barry came down from Norman, Oklahoma, to talk about getting the job. And he comes in and he said, 'Where's Jimmy?'"
Switzer couldn't accept Jones' explanation that Johnson had departed the organization and wasn't coming back.
Said Jones: "I said, 'Barry, Jimmy's gone. We're sitting here talking about you being the coach.' I said, 'What in the world are you so anxious to talk to Jimmy about?'
"He said, 'I just want to get both you little <expletive> on this couch and ask you both how could you [mess] this up.' That was Switzer."

Jimmy Johnson was gone and he was not returning. Even so, Jones had tremendous respect for Switzer. Jones could have reflected upon what Switzer said at THAT time, tried to arrange a meeting between all three men and, with Johnson's consent, discuss what happened.
Not change what happened. Confront and acknowledge what had happened. That bit of indirect advice was ignored.
That was an example of inflexibility Jones had at 51. He retains the same inflexibility at 81. In my opinion, there is practically zero reason to believe he will change if he reaches 91. He is still the same man. Just my two cents.
