A bit of an easygoing thread and I found it humorous to bring up since it’s still not season time yet. I had a dream last night that we win the Super Bowl next season and Dak lifts the Lombardi. I’ve only ever had this dream once before and ironically enough it was the season before our last superbowl win. I’m not a Dak fan, but recently I’ve had a strange feeling we could at least make the nfccg this upcoming season. Does anybody else here feel like next season might be our season?
The only way Dak lifts a Lombardi is in a dream.

Jones is no one's Uncle Jerry. :muttley: Here are Jones' comments I mentioned earlier (link):

According to Jones, one of Switzer's first acts when he visited with Jones at Valley Ranch in 1994 was to make peace between the two former Hogs.

"Barry Switzer came in the office and Jimmy had just left," Jones said. "And, so, Barry came down from Norman, Oklahoma, to talk about getting the job. And he comes in and he said, 'Where's Jimmy?'"
Switzer couldn't accept Jones' explanation that Johnson had departed the organization and wasn't coming back.
Said Jones: "I said, 'Barry, Jimmy's gone. We're sitting here talking about you being the coach.' I said, 'What in the world are you so anxious to talk to Jimmy about?'
"He said, 'I just want to get both you little <expletive> on this couch and ask you both how could you [mess] this up.' That was Switzer."

_____________________

Jimmy Johnson was gone and he was not returning. Even so, Jones had tremendous respect for Switzer. Jones could have reflected upon what Switzer said at THAT time, tried to arrange a meeting between all three men and, with Johnson's consent, discuss what happened.

Not change what happened. Confront and acknowledge what had happened. That bit of indirect advice was ignored.

That was an example of inflexibility Jones had at 51. He retains the same inflexibility at 81. In my opinion, there is practically zero reason to believe he will change if he reaches 91. He is still the same man. Just my two cents.
I’m not at all thinking he is going to step away from the mic, but if he doesn’t it’s gonna get progressively embarrassing.

There were some Al Davis moments toward the end when I was truly embarrassed for him.

And yep, that’s Jerry’s idol and he stayed until they wheeled him out the building.

Bold> Both Jones public commentary and GM actions have have been progressively embarrassing for 30 years. It has been a downhill slide. The sporadic 'good seasons' that the franchise has experienced during that time do not hide what he has said and done and still has yet to do or say.

Of course, the future may be much more than embarrassing as far as Jones is concerned if he does eventually regress mentally into actual dementia and his family does not take measures to shield him from the public. His speech patterns and diction have not notably changed over the decades. Age has simply slowed his delivery.

His oratory style is one of several observations some people incorrectly make that he is senile. Actual dementia would make his commentary FAR worse. It could even silence him. These are possibilities laypersons with real-life experience with patients, loved ones and/or friends know only too well.

It was only just a dream. We have gotten worse, unless we get 3 starters from rookie class and Tolbert can actually be a good no 3 receiver and Mazi doesn't suck. If all that comes together and have to pull in the health element, where we have been one of the healthiest teams the last few years as well. Gfl lol.

I had a dream I was Steph Curry's best friend and destroyed him in a one on one game.. He paid me our bet. Got mad and took the ball and left the gym as I sat laughing at him....Looking down it was a bag full of hundred dollar bills....Yep...if only dreams were true:facepalm:

Yes, it's a dream, and certainly not reality.

No, I don't have that feeling. I have known for some time who Dak is and who he is not. And while he is a top 12ish QB...QBs with his ceiling do not win 4 straight games in the postseason without great coaching, a strong running game and top 7ish defense.

People get fooled with gaudy regular season stats. And even if you look at the playoff game where he beat Tom Brady....Dak is not doing that for 4 consecutive games. It's not a knock on Dak..but a reality check. Build a team around him that can win playoff games without him having to play like he played against the Bucs...that is the only way we are ever lifting the Lombardi. And this is true for a lot of QBs..asking your QB to win 4 straight games is a tall task for most QBs. We did not even ask Aikman to do that. We had a dominant running game and defense....and Troy played good....but we did not ask Troy to win a shootout. One of them we blew Buffalo out. Against the Steelers.... Neil Odonnel was our best player. The other Buffalo game we leaned on Emmit.

If we want to argue that because of Daks contract demands we can't build a SB winner. That is pure hog wash. A franchise QB...which Daks numbers suggest he is ....gets paid what they get paid...give or take 3 - 5 million on an annual basis. What's happening right now is The Jones boys don't think Dak should be the highest paid QB in NFL history. Probably because he has not won. But that's not how it works. Do you guys really think we are a Dak hometown discount away from having the coaching, defense and running game it takes to win 4 straight postseason games? Let me help you out....we are not. Whether we pay Dak 55m per year or 58m per year or 60m a year...from the front office, to the coaching staff, to the personnel on the field....we are NOT good enough.

And here is the other problem....if you are not going to keep Dak.....why would you give CeeDee Lamb top 3ish money? This front office is the first and biggest problem. Dak does not HAVE to sign here. Dak will get what he is looking for....give or take 3 - 5m on an annual basis....in Dallas or somewhere else. So you going to pay CeeDee what he is worth with an unknown at QB? I could go and on about the stupidity of this front office.....but there is a REASON we have not made a Super Bowl run in almost 30 years...and it's much bigger than Dak. And because every other NFC team except Dallas and Wash has made a SB run in the last ~30 years....that is the proof you need to answer your original question.

....its possible. Life is like that. You get something OR something happens, when you least expect it.

I remember the Chiefs last year around wk 12, they looked bad. I thought to myself, they'll probably lose 1st round in playoffs.

They ran the table.

It scares me that you could be right, but not because the Cowboys are the best team.
The NFL is an entertainment business, and reminds me more and more of the WWF.

What a shame we have fans like this. I feel sorry for them. Their bitterness clouds everything to where they’re incapable of being objective and just spew hate all the time.

If the offensive and defensive lines play well this season, your dream could very well come true.
It wasn’t my dream. You meant that for the OP. However, I’ll never stop wishing the Cowboys would win the SB.

Despite all of the so-called negatives this off-season, I still hold out for an outside shot, something like the 2010 Packers. But to me it's more likely that with the brutal schedule and so many question marks, the Cowboys might not find their identity as a team until mid season. And unless some other NFC teams implode, it might be too late to go on an end season run.
