”Owners collectively standing their ground” will get them in front of a Federal Labor Board and in court. That option is not legal in the United States.
Correct, but I'm sure these owners have good enough legal teams to find a loophole. If it's bad for business, and for most teams it is, a workaround can be found and justified. It's also irrelevant because human nature dictates that somebody will go against the grain, rendering the thought pointless.

The “workaround” is negotiate a mutually acceptable alternative with the NFLPA. The NFL is a business. If they want something of value from the players they need to offer something of equal or greater value to the players.

Got stuck watching the Eagles game, only thing on.

I had to look at the stats, but as of today, Henry is the #1 rusher in the the NFL for the season and Barkley is the #2 rusher.

Do I think either teams will make it to the SB this year? Probably not.

That said, getting forced to watch this game showed me exactly what Barkley does for the Eagles. The Eagles at least showed that they took a risk to get their team better. Likewise, the Ravens did the same thing with Henry. The obvious of course is I don't really see JJ trying to make his team better.

I don't consider myself a Dak lover or hater, but when you don't really have a running game that the defense has to respect, the reality is it just makes it that much harder on your QB.

Why oh why couldn't the billionaire owner of the Cowboys at least try to get Henry on the team? The reality is who didn't think Zeke was washed up except for JJ?

Sorry for the rant. Didn't get to see much of Henry play during this season, but man, other than Browns TD reception, it seemed like Barkley won the game for the Eagles today.
The same guy that thought Trance was a real QB didn't think Zeke was washed up.

Unfortunately he is the only one that matters.

No way. I was told by no less than 30 posters here that Henry was washed up and a waste of money. Been pimping for the guy since middle of last season. Tried to show the Zone how this guy has been running against 8 men in the box ever since his QB situation fell apart.

In Cowboys defense though, I can understand any reluctance to sign Barkley because of his frequent injury history.

I agree there. What left me scratching my head is it really seemed like Henry wanted to play with the cowboys, added he has a home in Texas.

Please don't bash my ignorance, but we gave up Pollard last year who ironically went to Tennessee.

Pollard for 2024 is ranked 17th averaging 4.3 yards per carry (in perspective, Henry is averaging 5.9 yards per carry). The leader for the cowboys this year is Dowdle, who is averaging 4.2 yards, but ranked 37th right now with his longest run being 13 yards. Zeke this year is ranked 76th this year. Dowdle has touched the ball 59 time vs Zeke's 38 times.

I'm not going to lie, I have no clue how the salary cap works, all I know is it seems to be a crutch JJ relies on when other teams don't seem to have issues with it crippling their teams (less the stupid Browns on whatever they were thinking of when it came to Watson). End of the day, it seems the salary cap is nothing but a shell game.

Was Henry really that far overpriced in what he was looking for in a new contract?

We will never know because the idiot in charge of building the team never got off his yacht until right before training camp started.

The reason JJ brought Zeke back was bc he couldn’t stomach paying him $6 mil in dead money not to be here.

When you factor in his cap hit, they are near the top of what they are willing to spend at the RB position.

That is why JJ is saying he “can’t afford” Henry. It’s not that there isn’t overall cap money to make the signing— it’s that adding Henry’s additional 8 mil to the RB cap number extends the Cowboys commitment beyond where they want to be for that position.

I am by no means endorsing their thinking or their decisions, just trying to explain their “logic”.

JJ does what he always does: buys hamburger and markets it like it’s steak.

The lack of production speaks for itself. They gambled that the RBBC approach would work just like they thought WRBC would work before they had to trade for Cooper.

Our FO is run by clowns. End of story

I'd hope that our OL gets fixed initially. I don't think Henry or Barkley would look as good behind our OL (including TE blocking). I really don't.

There should be a QB salary cap .

It is hurting teams' ability to hire multiple stars .
I'd settle for better talent evaluators. Now if you want to slice the QB pay......there's Cooper and Trey in the wings.....see how that would work out. Jerry & Company fooling everyone with failed roster building. As for pay......Aubrey should demand to be the highest paid FG kicker, at this point. 8-8 records, early exits, or missing the playoffs pay good, see the smiles:

After reading about what the Browns owe, Watson would be given a gift if he never had to play another game in his life.

I have a good friend at church that moved down from Cleveland last year who is a big Browns fan. As he said, at least Jerry isn't as stupid as the Browns were.
Yep, the Browns made a gamble, especially with Watson's cases that were pending at the time, the inevitable suspension and the hope he would play like he did in Houston.......however, yesterday with an Achilles injury, shows why every player should seek his worth because the game is brutal and can end at the drop of one play. Don't blame the QBs, blame the Browns on that contract.

I saw the Rico Dowdle the Cowboys at least in 2024 should have in the Pittsburgh game . He got the ball 18 times on the ground and caught a TD pass . So what happens in the Detroit game, MM shuttles in Zeke as 2nd series .

The model should be Detroit , they slice and dice Mongomery then bring in Gibbs . Sign Dowdle to a reasonable off season deal to compliment your 3rd round feature back from 2025 draft .

And for goodness sakes Beebe & Guyton are going to be fine they are 6 games into NFL career . It’s Terrence Steele Dallas needs to upgrade .

It is easier to draft a guard than a LT. Move Smith to LT and Guyton back to his natural position at RT. Trade Steele if you can. Draft a LG.

Agree, but if he IS trying to make the team better, then his old age has done even more damage than I thought.
If this year's team represents a legitimate attempt to improve the team, well, our RB stable is proof of JJ's old age failure.
How can anyone possibly believe him when he's let all these guys walk and made little to no effort to replace them other than rookies and dumpster dives? He absolutely is having cognitive issues. His gibberish answers are making less sense than usual and he's basically not doing any of the work of a GM. He has the league roster knowledge of your average fantasy football player.......maybe even lower.

Neither would do much here.
So now this going to be the excuse for Jerry doing literally nothing but bringing back a brokedown retread at TB?

Our running game would absolutely be better with one of those two. Great? Likely not but better? Absolutely.

Truth is also that the Dallas o-line isn't as good as the Ravens' or the Eagles' line, Henry would no doubt have done better than Dowdle, but he'd get hit so much more often he'd probably be beat to a pulp by now and not nearly as effective as he's been in Baltimore.

I know, the prevailing thought here is that Dak is most of the reason the Cowboys aren't winning much, but with this team, a better quarterback would just get us back to maybe winning 9-10 games...

Ostensibly Zeke was brought in to add to the blocking for Dak, to pick up first downs when a yard or two is needed and for goal line touchdowns.

But the Cowboys haven't been in first and goal from the 1 or 2 very much, and Zeke is being put in on pass plays and runs where like 6-8 yards are needed. Whether that's MM's call, or Zeke crying to Jerry for more touches, nobody knows.

But Jerry's not even following his own reasons for bringing Zeke back...

Well, the issue in my mind is. There’s just not enough, superstars to go around. Whether you can hire them or not.

The only difference is that Watson isn't playing (now due to the injury) and Dak is....
You made me look. I honestly didn't realize that at this moment in time, Dak is 23rd in the league per his QB ratings where as Watson is dead last.

Hate to seem so stupid, but can anyone explain what the difference between total guaranteed and full guaranteed is? See below.
