I have a question about the defense

The offense just got way outplayed today and now people know how to beat us that have the tools to beat us.

But the defense. Why does it always get excuses/no focus nationally with coverage/analysis? No one ever really talks about how horrible they are. The constantly give up plays and yardage and rely on "splash" plays to get off the field. Marinelli is years ago due for a firing and I just don't understand why the draft has brought us such horrible unreliable defensive players. If you lose big games constantly, and it's because of the defense, at some point, the excuses have to stop.

How many teams in the league have the DBs to play 8 in the box all game long?

The answer is three, and we beat one of them last week and lost to the other today. We play the third next week. And only one of those teams is a real threat to make the playoffs, and its the AFC team we wouldnt play until the SB.

As to the defense, the fact is we should be a bottom 5 defense with our talent being either average or so young. The fact that we aren't is a credit to Marinelli. We will have bad games though.

Defense lacks talent on the edges other than Lawrence and they still have weak secondary play where their best CBs might be a guy in his 2nd year and two rookies. Heath is bad, Jones is largely average at safety. Carroll is an abomination and I warned people about him but too many of the homers just thought if the FO wanted him, ergo, he must be pretty good,.

Defense lacks talent and while I don't think Marinelli is terrible, I think people overrate how good he is.

Because the defense isn't horrible. There isn't a single statistical measure by which this defense has been "terrible" since Marinelli too over.

We had the #1 rush defense and a top-10 scoring defense last year.

Bad games happen man. There are gonna be bumps with our young DB's. The Defensive Line has help coming. We played a good team in a hostile environment today.

We're a basic 4-3 zone scheme. That means smaller, faster players on the front 7 and good tacklers (or at least that's what you're supposed to do) with the DB's.
Front 7 looked slow and lethargic out there and missed tackles left and right.

Byron isn't a terrible tackler, but he's not exactly Jack Tatum. For a SS, Heath is a weak tackler.

The scheme is pretty bland and our lack of blitzing makes it even more bland.

I don't have problems with the scheme as a whole. I prefer to have 4 pass rushers and your 4 best pass rushers out there every down in today's game. We are starting to work on changing up the coverages, but today we couldn't get Semien out of rhythm. When he went with 3 step drops, the first read was wide open. When he went with 5 step drops, there was no consistent pass rush. All the while we gave up all this rushing yards as our DT's stunk today and we were missing tackles left and right.

I do think it was just one of those games at one of those stadiums where opposing teams just happen to struggle at. But we need to put our DB's in position to make plays and we could really use another playmaker along the D-Line.

The defense was on roller skates the whole game, they couldn't tackle, cover, or get leverage at the line of scrimmage. Same issue with the oline, they got no push. I wonder if they brought the right cleats? There were obviously broader issues, but when Lee is flying around missing tackles you have to wonder about the equipment.

Secondly, the Cowboys really need to consider veteran defensive help not named Nolan Carroll. He played poorly in the brief time he played and was always trailing the receiver.

If we are being totally honest no defense should bottle up our offense the way it did today. The defense is young and is short handed. Offense has 0 excuses. Period

Haden got lit up by the Browns and Seattle looks horrible. One gave up 21 million and the other a 2nd round pick. So your idea is give up money and premium draft picks for nothing?
