I have come to grips with Demarco

Most RBS at this level get nicked up during the grind of an NFL season. Some of that is pure luck with regard to the extent of an injury. Was his foot planted or not when he got blasted down low? Did he see the hit coming and have time to mitigate the impact? Does he play for a QB that loves to leave his WRS out to dry across the middle? So many variables in a violent sport... DeMarco proved this year that he can and will ensure pain for opposing defenders and endure personal injury. I'm not worried about that at all. His production behind this line will naturally decrease if he were to stay. The percentages are written for good reason. However, there's no discounting the production in the system that we have in place. I would give him 1400 behind this line. Easy. A replacement could potentially have the same success running bebehind rhis line but I need that to be a guy who does all of the other things I already mentioned. Romo's safety and peace of mind is incredibly important.

Here are the pass block efficiency ratings for the Cowboys this season.

Peterson had a 92.7 rating in 2013, so ranks higher than Murray's 89.4. Ingram also ranks higher for this season with a 97.0 rating.

I'm actually ok with either of those two at the right price. However, at this point in time, AP seems like a pure Madden thought. Ingram? He basically did the same thing Demarco did but at a much lower level. That is perform admirably in a contract year. If we're going to try and pick him up, we may as well massage Demarco into staying.

Main thing is Ingram could probably be signed for 8 mill/2 years, whereas Demarco will be going for twice that.

The biggest shame is that it comes down to him or Dez. If we'd have drafted him a year later, and had one more year with the "new triplets" I think we'd all be feeling really positive about the prospects of the team for 2015.

Knowing we have to lose one of the biggest contributors to our success this year sucks, even though he may be reasonably easy to replace, it's not a given and takes away from some of the confidence going into next season.

No it doesn't.

I think Randle would be better than most guys we could bring in. We'd save enough money to be able to address the defense too.

You folks that continue to think the Cowboys are going to sign Suh are going to come away very disappointed.

Yup and most likely looking for 100 mil and 50 guaranteed

We don't need a DT taking over Crawford's spot

We need DE's

That amount of money spread over those years on defense would make much more of an impact that

Did he or did he not miss games this year with injury just like every other year he had?
Take off your homer glasses and get realistic

Yep, For what they would be paying Suh, they could have both Paea and Sheard, which would greatly help fortify the dline.

Lol. I'm sure you're on point with that thought. It would be one helluva ridiculous addition on the defensive side of the ball though. Our offense achieved "balance" successfully this year. If we can take it to the next level to achieve balance between our offense and defense this offseason our postseason will be long and fruitful next year.

I love demarco and I will hate to see him elsewhere. But Im seriously fine going into next season with dunbar, Williams and randle though honestly. Rb by committee will work with this line.

For the record, I have not given up on that we can work something out with Murray. I understand the situation and dont want to pay more than needed for him. Maybe Im still in denial, but I also WILL NOT feel comfortable about this situation until we know his definite replacement is in place (if there is one) and even then I will have a wait and see approach. I know the history of RBs with the amount of carries he had this year, but cant rejoice in the fact we are moving on given the season the whole team just had with him. We dont need the same type of season from him this year as long as we dont pay him something that warrants that need. Im ok with others that have accepted the fact he may not be back, Im not ok with the lack of respect hes being given on this board the last week.

He just had the greatest season of ANY Cowboys RB and everyone is already writing him off and speak only of the negative. EVERY other team in the NFL wouldve loved to have him this year in spite of those negatives which were only highlighted by the fact that after 8 games this team went all out to get him 2000. We were committed to the run this year, but in spite of that there were still a few occasions when our coaches/quarterback decided to pass. I worry about the same commitment theyll have with anyone else next year. I hope Jerry, Steven, and Jason pull out all the stops in their salesmanship to get him back here for the right price.

I don't think many of us have "given up", we're just not willing to pay too much for him in our football world. A lot of whether or not he stays a Cowboy has to do with him. Most teams with our potential to win are going to have trouble paying him what he wants like we are.

Me too. I've advocated for keeping DeMarco all week. The more I read, the more I learn, and the more I realize how important it is to allocate our resources intelligently. It's sad in a way, cause I really like the guy. I know wherever he goes he's going to be an asset to his team. Both on and off the field. It's a shame to lose him though. My loyalty towards players on this team initially outweighs my thought process and what's best for the team. I get attached. What can I say? Anyway, I want what's best for both Murray and the team and if that means parting ways, so be it. As I see it now, under the restrictions we have to abide by, Murray will get his much deserved payday and we'll keep on keepin' on with a more cap friendly addition. I'll be the first to admit when I'm wrong. Thank you all for the education.

Its not so much I think everyone has given up, its the ones who think we can just plug someone else in and be just as great and walk into the NFC championship next year. The ones that call him a fumbler and say he has no break away speed suggesting we can do better.....in 1 year. Like it or not, by the time the season rolls around thats the expectation (NFC Championship or more) and anything else will be a failed season. I like our chances better with him, than without.

I wanted to buy a Murray jersey all year, but knew it wasnt realistic and couldnt, knowing I may only get 1 year out of it. This isnt big news to me, Im still just not ready to accept it or think its our best option (with the right new contract).

Yeah, I'm on the jersey market, too. Waiting for the offseason to pan out.

I hear you man and a know lots of people feel as though breakaway speed is an issue but a RB with all of the tools is a major plus in any offense. Breakaway speed is just a bonus. If you string enough 5 to 15 yard runs together you kill clock and frustrate opposing offenses. We did that with great success this year. So I can't subscribe the the breakaway speed argument.

We can argue this until the earth crashes into the sun. No one was going to catch Demarco on that mid field speed right. He was off to the races and already hitting 4th gear.

I like using Murray with those 5-20 yard runs that wear defenses down. Then bring in a Randle that can take it to the house. I feel we should have used our backups more then we did this season plus it keeps Murray fresh

I'm right there with you. But I had to become at ease with the possibility. If he stays, it's party time. If he goes, l'm at peace with it because I am finally confident that leadership will make the right moves to keep us on track.
