I have never been able to understand the lack of respect for Malik Davis

But he has done well during the regular season as well. Just look up his in season stats. Right at this point he is far and away our best option at RB 2 when it comes to those we have in camp. If not him,,,,who?
He had 52 carries for 250 yards. Very workmanlike production but theres really limited upside.

The coaching staff would seem to agree considering they have him behind Blue and Mafah, just like last year.

I’m not a fan of Blue or Mafah either and agree that Davis is likely a better option.

“If not him … who?” perfectly summarizes the state of the RB room

He is absolutely our best option at RB 2. Was last year as well. In fact since he has been with the team he has done nothing but produce when given the opportunity. IMO he is the very definition of what a solid RB 2 looks like in the NFL. He may not be GREAT at anything,....but he is good at EVERYTHING. He is the type of runner where if the O line has 4 yards blocked up he will get you those four yards and once in a while break one for more. You don't see him running into the backs of the O lineman or trying to take it outside only to end up getting stoned at the LOS when taking the easy 4 would have been the smart play. Blue to me is a boom or bust guy,....quite honestly he looks to my eye like a disaster just waiting to happen. P M is another Solid guy like Davis but is at least a notch or two below. Seems like we are wasting a whole lot of time looking for this phantom RB 2 when the truth is we already have him and he has been here the whole time.
Agreed has good vision and runs hard.

I'm not against the other guys at all and I hope they improve and compete for the spot, but right now there's no question to me that Davis is the second best running back on the team and that's not just from last night's game.
Exactly. I hope all our running backs do well. I'm just saying Davis is clearly ahead and has been.

No, you're wrong. It all falls on the Oline blocking. Had Malik started last night's game and ran behind the 2nd string Oline's putrid run blocking, Malik Davis would have also averaged less than 3 yards per carry the way Blue and Mafah did.
He averaged 4.8 yards running against starting defenses in real games last year

And you are so wrong!!!
Possibly, but the guy who I think is the obvious #2 has consistently outperformed the other 2, and it's not close!!!! At the end of the day, isn't it about performance? Davis was a great backup last season already. Proven NFL talent.

I'd love to see the young guys break out, but I just haven't seen it. I'm not interested in dying on my little pet cat hill, I'm more interested in watching the guys and seeing who stands out.

Malik Davis ran well last night (as did Abanikanda) because the 3rd string Oline overall blocked well. That whole 2nd half was full of good running holes and lanes for they to run through. Had it been Blue and Mafah, they easily would have picked up big yards. You guys need to take everybody into your thought process, not just 1 player by himself. OK, Malik Davis ran for big yards. OK. But why? Did he break tackles or were there big holes and lanes for he to run through?
Yes, there's always an excuse for why Davis performs, but at the end of the day he still averages nearly 5 ypc. Maybe at some point everyone just accepts hes better than he gets credit for.

Also at some point Blue and Mafah need to actually perform, instead of going for 3.5 ypc.

Not a burner and is 27. Thats about it

Yes, I think most of us are pulling for Blue. We need the speed and like his ceiling. However, he has yet to show us much. Not saying it cant or wont happen, but it's year two and we're still waiting.

And I love how hard Mafah runs, and he's a really good blocker. But at the end of the day he's just not quick enough.

All I know is this.........Davis can come in and give you 5/6 carries a game to spell Williams and get you through 2 or 3 games in case of injury to Williams without production dropping off the table. If not THAT then what is the job of an RB 2? Would I like/LOVE a speed guy that you can throw a screen to or get out in space like Blue? ABSOLUTELY,....but not if it means sacrificing our best RB 2 option. We can also use Turpin on those gadgets which lessons the blow of not having Blue IMO.

I was talking about LAST regular season with the starting O LINE. Davis thrived when he took over,...Blue did NOT.
Blue did during the last game when he finally played after Week 3 prior to that. The whole season past by before Blue was given a chance to finally run the ball.
