I have to ask - School is out

Being the long time Cowboy fan I am, I remember in the early 80s NFL Films did a piece on Roger Staubach's last miracle against the Commanders on the final week of the regular season in 1979. In this film, it featured long time great Dallas Cowboys Columnist Frank Luska (RIP). When Larry Cole made that 3rd and 2 tackle behind the line of scrimmage on the Diesel, Luska made the comment,

"When Larry Cole made that play, SCHOOL IS OUT! Everybody in that stadium knew Roger was going to lead them to victory." (paraphrased)

So I will ask you.
When Dallas got the ball back with 1:30 left to play, how many of you were believing that... SCHOOL IS OUT?

Did you truly know Tony was going to lead the Cowboys to victory?

I was certainly feeling it.

I certainly didn't have the feeling school was out with Romo Sunday night but I did with Staubach during that 79 game vs Washington. Staubach's HOF career was built by pulling out games in the closing seconds. With no Dez and no time outs it didn't look very good for the Cowboys and to Romo's credit he got it done. The last couple of seasons Romo has become much more clutch. The thought of him turning the ball over on that final drive never crossed my mind and that's the first time that's happened in a crucial situation like that.

I did not. I don't put Romo in the same class as Roger Staubach

That last sentence tells me you were at least subconsciously believing that SCHOOL IS OUT!

If fans are not even thinking about Romo throwing a pick tells me that he is becoming legendary (even without rings).

Felt like we'd either win or Romo would have an inexplicably bad turnover. Thankfully the former happened. I couldn't have dealt with a week of hearing about Romo being a choker.

With 1:30 left in the game with no time outs and your top receiver out of the game with an injury it's hard to like any QB's chances when they need a TD to win in that situation. Romo's receivers let him down most of the game so can't say I was beaming with confidence heading into that final drive with no Dez out there. That may have been the most impressive drive I've seen by Romo especially considering he dropped the ball on the snap on his TD throw calmly picking it up and throwing a strike. I had questions about his poise over the years in those situations but the last 2 game winning drives we've seen from him vs the Lions in the playoffs last season and Sunday Nights game he's looked as cool as cucumber on both game winning throws.

Not really but I did think the Cowboys could move the ball far enough to take a couple of shots at the endzone. Not having Dez to throw one up to made it really hard for me to believe Romo could pull that game out. Lately it seems like when I'm not expecting the Cowboys to do something they end up doing it. I'm not expecting 12 wins this season so hopefully this trend will continue.

I had little confidence that we would win without Dez. I was so wrong it's not even funny.

Probably the best thing to come from this game is that, when all the chips seem to be down, Tony can find a way to pull this team out for a victory.

I felt it. When the Giants passed on 3rd down, I turned and told my wife that may have just won us the game. It just felt inevitable after that.

When I rewatched the final drive (several times) I quickly realized that on 4 of the 5 completions, Romo exposed the middle linebacker - twice with Dunbar and twice with Witten. Unga Bunga - or whatever his name was - was a sieve in the Giants defense. Only the 7 yard pass to TWill was against another defender. He reminded me of Jacque Reeves.

The way he looked the whole Giants drive he just needed the ball back, and after winning hat game lasts year against them I knew he could do it again I just didn't know how we would move the ball without Dez taking attention, but those 2 first passes to Dunbar got us in great position. In Romo I believe.
