His long snap. Put Romo is the gun and this team will be dangerous. Last year Gurode scared me everytime Romo set up for the long snap. Never knew where it was going.

I hope that someone has him indoors snapping the ball all spring.

I honestly feel that if Gurode doesn't get that worked out that he's going to have to move to the bench on 3rd and long. He's come so far but that long snapping is really an adventure.

Some off Romo's best ESPN highlights came off of bad shotgun snaps (rams)...

didnt see any flea-flicker type plays.........maybe the "botched shotgun" snap was "incorporated into the offense.......:)

The timing of his snaps are what scare me more than the actual snaps.

We had a lot of false start penalties down the stretch because he wasnt getting the ball off.

His snaps were bad at it all year, but in the playoff game it was scary how bad he was. His snaps were so off that it was looking like the whole line was jumping off sides on every play. They were coming back so slow it was throwing off the rhythm of the whole play.

My guess is that the coaching staff sees nothing wrong with his delivery on the shotgun snap and are allowing him to completely ignore that facet of his game this offseason.

More teams should use the shotgun. It allows the QB to see the field and pass rush better and not worry about his footwork.

What surprised me that in a post I originated, several posters said they saw absolutely nothing wrong with Gurode's snaps. I was like wow I know I'm not crazy here. The guys snaps scared me and what's worse they scared the heck out of Romo too. He would literally flinch in anticipation on every shotgun play. Yeah, I hope he's addressing it.

Right about now, Gurode is probably working on lunch.

LOL! Things must be really slow for this thread. ;)

What gets me sometimes, are fans who think these guys should be doing football 24/7. Do any of those folks do their job 24/7?

It's not that he needs to work on it 24/7, it's that he really does need to address it. I'm sure he can improve in that area if he puts his mind to it. I want consistenly bad shotgun snaps to be a thing of the past in Dallas.

I remember that some QBs complained they have to take their eyes off the field to focus on catching the snap and this disturbs their rhythm. I don't remember Troy Aikman or Steve Young using the shotgun much, for example.

Doesn't Gurode only have a like a year or year and a half doing that? I think he'll be okay, we'll at least I hope.

That's definitely true. But I think the positives outweigh the negatives, especially if you have a center and QB in sync. Another negative I think is that it's harder to do playactions, so the defense usually knows if it's a run or a pass almost immediately. Speaking of playactions though, the QB has to take his eyes off the field for those too.

While that is true about Aikman and Young It is also true that Elway insisted on having the shotgun incorporated into the offense because it gave him a better view of the field. And Staubach did pretty well with the formation...for what it's worth.

Not exactly. Part of the problem with the shotgun is that the QB has to take his eye off the coverage for a split second to see the ball go into his hands and then look back upfield after he catches the ball. I like the shotgun and think every team should use it, but I think there's too many QB's these days using it too often and it makes for a less effective offense. Peyton Manning likes to use the shotgun, but his biggest plays usually come under center because the Colts' play action is so deadly. On third down it's fine. But when you see teams use it a lot on 1st or 2nd down, you get the feeling that the QB should learn how to play the position.
