Ever notice how much louder highschool bands get when they stop marching? I guarantee if you have 100 members 40 can't play and march at the same time.

That's because when the bands are marching on the field, half of them at any one given time are turned away from the audience as they go about their manuvers and proceed to the next position on the field. That's why it gets quieter. The sound isn't being focused at you.

No.:D

Most high school bands have a marching season during the fall (football) and a concert season during the spring.

During marching season, I played xylophone in the pit, which required minimal physical exertion as it was mostly just standing around while the band marched behind me.:p:

During concert season, I played oboe.

I have played in marching bands and STILL play in a variety of bands, including a Pipe Band. Don't screw with a man in a kilt or you'll get kilt. :p: Both my kids have played in marching bands. It's allowed them to travel, be part of something bigger than themselves and given them an appreciation of music. As for Jim Rome, he's never done anything useful, so his opinion matters not.:thumbdo:

Dynamics, my boy. Marching Bands play at more than one volume. The music is supposed to be louder when the band is not moving, as that's when you let'er rip.

I don't care if you like or dislike soccer, they do a hell of a lot more work than a band.

Get outside and run around for about half the day and see how you feel.
