Every year, hundreds (if not thousands) of college kickers graduate. Then you have the guys in the Arena League and NFLE. And yet, fossils like Morten Anderson still have a job. Am I underestimating just how hard this position is? Why is the failure rate for kickers, as opposed to say guards, so appalling? Guards have to do several things things well, and yet teams can find five or six of them. Kickers have to do one thing well, and teams can barely unearth one. What gives? A journeyman like Gramatica is better than thousands of other, younger guys?
