Every year, hundreds (if not thousands) of college kickers graduate. Then you have the guys in the Arena League and NFLE. And yet, fossils like Morten Anderson still have a job. Am I underestimating just how hard this position is? Why is the failure rate for kickers, as opposed to say guards, so appalling? Guards have to do several things things well, and yet teams can find five or six of them. Kickers have to do one thing well, and teams can barely unearth one. What gives? A journeyman like Gramatica is better than thousands of other, younger guys?

Hell, the MLS is out of season, I am sure a soccer player wouldnt be the worst option around.

I'm probably on bbgun's ignore list, but I'll answer here anyways

who the hell wants to be a K? seriously, Ks are even struggling in the college ranks, who goes to tryouts in high school, and says, "I'm here for the Ks job coach! PUT ME IN!"??

I think it's because kicking for the University of Who Gives A Crap is a lot different than kicking for the Dallas Cowboys or any other NFL team for that matter. It's a different ball, The goal posts are wider, and the kicker can kick from different hash marks.

Hopefully Steve Hoffman can be lured back to us next offseason. I'm sure BP thought it was ridiculous to have a kicking coach but he really must regret the move with all the headaches he has had from that position.

I had been emailing Hoffman for a while back in the spring and he told me that as long as BP (He referred to him as "That Person") was head coach, he would never go back to Dallas.

Yeah. We've done so well with our kickers since he left.

have we ever had a top 5 K, in terms of points, in 8 years? and I mean we've had some horrible teams to give our Ks chances to score alot of points

we haven't done well w/ Ks period, but if you like average Ks, fine, pine for Hoffman

I just wish I woulda listened to my 5'7 Dad when he said that unless I was willing to kick field goals, I would never play in the NFL or any other pro sport.

I remember he when he told me that, he pointed at the power line next to our house and said "start kicking". I went inside and watched Indiana Jones and ate Cheetos instead.

perhaps it is the lack of job security that causes people to shy away from the kicker position and persue careers that they went to college for

Sometimes you are asked to make tomato soup out of lemons.

At least when he was here, he had success.

I'm not saying he is a kicking god, just saying that what we are doing NOW ain't working.

Cundiff wasn't awful. He also hit some game winners for us when the game was on the line.

Don't know why you have such a hate for the guy. Did he take a leak in your Cheerios or something?

I don't hate Hoffman, just hate people pimping him on here

if you guys think Vandy was stealing from Jerry's wallet, how about a coach who specializes in coaching up average Ks?
