The only way for this to work:
1-BP has to come for 2 years not one.( at least publicly)
2-He has to bring guys with fire like Jim Burt ...Bryan Cox...Pepper Johnson..etc.. to be in his coaching staff.( since they all know him well)
3-Give control of play calling to his Coachs
totally.
other then that it will be like this year.

1- He could sign on for 102 years and it won't make a difference because everyone, including the players, knows he's a "year to year" proposition

2- He needs STRONG assistants. Guys with little experience might knuckle under to him and besides, it would all take place within his prehistoric systems.

3- Agreed.

He's at the end of his career. Control freaks control And the tougher things get, the more they control. He's not about to let go of anything authority as he comes to the end of his career.

No no no...not THIS Parcells guy... but ...THAT Parcells guy.

I couldn't sleep last night...so I was flippin' around the channels on the tube and found a program about the '86 Giants.

They mostly interviewed Simms (Who I think is a great character) Parcells and LT.

A few highlights...When the team was playing poorly against the Packers Parcells went nutz on them in the locker room at half time and ended up throwing garbage all over some defensive player and then tossing the pail against the wall. And then informed them that the were all "Horse S---"

Of course they went out in the second half a dominated the Packers but it became a running joke for the team from that point forward to ask Parcells "So are we just regular S--- today or Horse S---"

In the SuperBowl vs the Broncos, Simms was 22-25 (with two drops). On the drive that won the game for the Giants, Simms took a sack but later came back to throw a TD pass that iced the game. As he's going back to the sidelines, he sees Parcells waiting for him. Simms figures he's gonna be congratulated but instead Parcells says "Simms, come here. You CAN'T take a sack in that situation" and Simms replied "Parcells, WHO GIVES A S---?!"

From that game forward, every time someone asked him a question about Simms he would correct them, "It's not 'Phil Simms"...it's 'The GREAT Phil Simms'...ya gotta add that to make it correct"

Against the 49ers, before a playoff game the Giants would win 49-3, Parcells was all over his offensive line because during the season, the Giants had rushed for only 13 yards vs the 49ers. So, Parcells called them "Club 13" all week. Needless to say, they went out and manhandled the SF defensive line.

Before the Championship game vs the Commanders, he was asked if he feared the Commanders and he replied "I'm afraid of spiders, snakes, and the IRS."

And when his team won the coin toss, he chose to hand the ball to his defense and put the Commanders against the wind in the first quarter. The Giants kicked off to start the game and put the proverbial wood to the Commanders.

Throughout the entire program, there was an animated Parcells on the sidelines...at times laughing...getting in the face of players too...but at all time, very animated.

After watching the show, I remembered why I was so happy when we signed him. As I've said for the past three years, This is NOT the same coach.

I like THAT Parcells guy.

Well said J.

We certainly didn't see THAT Parcells on the sidelines this year. And he almost seemed removed from the whole situation.

If that's what we are going to get in 2007 then I suggest he retire.

I have gotten the impression that, from the look on his face on the sidelines and what he says in the PC's, he has an attitude of "They can't get it right".

Call me crazy...but that's the way it seems to me.

I saw the show, 'America's Game". Great program! It really gives a lot of insight on their list of the top 20 SB Champions.

The thing that struck me is simply Parcells' age. In '86 he was 45. Today he's 65. For those of you who are still in your youth, there is no way to understand the difference 20 years of age makes on your body, your energy, etc.

In '86 I was 24 and today I'm 44. The difference is unbelievable. When you add another 20 years to that and get up to 64, 65, well...I really don't want to even think about it. :)

The point is the job is so demanding and I just don't think Parcells has the pi** and vinegar he had 20 years ago and "THAT" Parcells will never be seen again.
