I love Lee, but have we seen the last of him as a Cowboy?

yea he should just retire , or trade him for a 7th rounder. Im excited for hollomon to start.

Only L.A. would make that deal (7th-rounder) but it . . . JUST SEEMS SO FRICKING STRANGE TO BE TALKING LEE AND A 7TH ROUND PICK BUT THAT IS THE WORLD WE NOW LIV E IN.

i agree, hope he retires and heads to the broadcasting booth as that would do several things….save us dead money against the cap we could use elsewhere and 2) hopefully enable Sean to have functional knees and walk when he's 40 years old.

Yep. At some point it has to not be worth it anymore. He's made millions already. Go find something & stay healthy.

Well, be sure the front office has definitely been sickened by the news that Sean Lee will miss the entirety of 2014. There's no doubt the VR brass is fully aware they can only retain someone for a limited amount of time when he is repeatedly unable to play huge chunks out of each and every season, This, of course, holds true, regardless of who it is or what he means to the team.

I read yesterday that when Jerry was informed of Sean Lee's injury, he displayed an expression symptomatic of being nauseated. Gotta say, so did I. There's no telling when the moment may come when the team decides to cut bait with Lee. I can't help but think it'll happen whenever it's no longer tolerable. Perhaps, at some point, our front office (or some other team) will choose to hire him in the capacity of its LB coach. That would probably be a pretty wise decision.

Going into 2015 Lee will have missed 31 out of his last 48 games due to injury -- and that's not counting some of those games last year where he was playing with a hurt neck and contributed little.

His historical metrics tell us that even if he starts the 1st game next season it's highly unlikely that he'll play even half of the season... his average at that point (based on 2012-2014) will have been 6 games per season....

As good as he is, does it make sense for the team to make any plans with Lee as a starter? It just doesn't sound like good football logic to me.

and half of those games he played with a club on his hand

Should have never gave him an extension but that is water under the bridge.

Yes, time to move on. He will never be healthy in this league.

he will never be healthy in dallas. as soon as he signs elsewhere, his injuries will mysteriously disappear and he will be a perennial all-pro

I would agree but this guy had red flags before he got here. Now I can definitely see Austin doing that in Cleveland and Newman seemed to improve as well.

But there was a reason Lee was not drafted in the 1st round and this was it. I don't think it will change.

Pretty sure his contract is not voidable due to injury. The injury protection written in the contract is pretty much all tied to snap counts and bonus money. With him missing the upcoming season entirely, the chance he sees any of that bonus money is between slim and none. I believe its around 9 million worth of bonus money over the life of the contract.

He'll play again, though. ACL tears are becoming more and more common, and the rehab/recovery from one isn't near as daunting as it was 10 years ago, let alone 20.

The real question is whether he'll be effective enough to be worth the backloaded contract in the 2017-2019 seasons; he remains pretty cheap from 2015-2016. I hope so, and I wouldn't put it past him, but I wouldn't count on it either.

This might be the dumbest thread I've ever seen on this forum. He's 27 it's an ACL tear. We have to pay him I think having him on the team is great for the other guys to be around. I'm as frustrated as anyone, but we get no salary cap benefit from cutting him and he doesn't cost a roster spot. We can't rely on him, but he's a great locker room guy and when he is on the field it's all bonus.

He's a much bigger cap hit to cut than he is to keep, and for actual cash it's only a 2.5 million salary. The economics of it suggest there is no way he won't be back in 2015. There does need to be a legitimate backup plan to go with him however.

There comes a point when you just have to move on. It's sad. Lee is a great guy and a great player. This team can not go forward if they continue to have to settle for players that are always injured. Are we supposed to wait for another year for him to come back only to see him play a couple of games before he's out again? You have to start drafting like he isn't here anymore. He was worth taking a chance on because he's that good but there comes a time when the team has to move forward.

He needs to take a paycut.

I would rather have a guy that's solid and plays then have to depend on Sean Lee to stay healthy.

He's a great football player but the guy is just not dependable and you just can not have that.

Now if he were making 2.5 or 3 mill a year I would have no problem with him playing 7 games a season.

Good obsourvation!

But you should use someone from this century to speak for you. Maybe that guy (the small guy) from Hootie's old band or maybe the guy (the small guy) from the Seth Rogan gang. No, he's more . . . well you git the point.
I know, the glow from your pointing out L.A. lasted all nite. but this morning you are still you and half a old guy from the last century speaking for you.
Oakland, L.A., what is the diff?
The Raiders, if that make you feel better. Oh, just remembered, you could get that contestant guy (the small guy) from "American Idol" who sang country real good.
Yes, Oakland, not L.A. Is the glow gone? Is this the high point of your existence here? I hope not. You half a lot to give. for a small guy, that is.
Hey, how about that Zach Martin? I bet you, as a small guy, could look up to him, yes?
;)
