Sinead is damn near 50 now. When she was younger, she was definitely pretty - even with the shaved head. She looked a lot like Winona Ryder, or even Natalie Portman.

Her rendition of "Silent Night" is one of the most beautiful Christmas songs there is.

True story, she shaved her head and intentionally tried to not look pretty due to her concerns on how the industry treated women back in the day. A lot of handsy music executives from what she said in her interviews.

Her behavior in public has never been stellar, but there is no denying the capabilities of her voice,

For those who have not seen her in person 25 plus years ago you would be stunned and understand why the music industry accepted her in the fold.

She was a petite young lady with a very fresh face and an incredible set of pipes. She was not ugly. Its just that its hard to look past women with a shaved head and envision beauty in the traditional sense.

She turned convention in the business on its ear. Punk girls typically do not sing the way Sinead was capable.

When you think of examples think Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Riot Girls, Joan Jett. Not stellar examples of undeniable sound quality in a voice.

Sinead was more reflective of singers like Karen Carpenter, Toni Teniile and like with clear vocals and wide range.

It didn't fit the typical mould and thats why she had writers offer her songs and labels sign her to contracts.

She should have done much better in the industry with her voice. IMO her public behavior curtailed what should have been a long career.

On a personal note I had a chance to spend the evening with her in a odd collection of fellows. We were all there to hear her sing in a small venue and she came to sit with us for a couple of hours.

At that time her only serious vice I could see was she was a terrible chain smoker, and her opinions of the world and haste to politicize things were a problem.

I thought she was a fabulous singer. I thought she was attractive, but certainly was not going to touch with that set of opinions. I am Cathoic.

I would not have envisioned industry star. That's why I am not in the music business.

Sinead has always been one of my favorite female singers. She was my absolute favorite until my daughter took the top spot. But Sinead's voice is magical, it gives me chills.



I don't care about her political opinions, nor ever her opinions of ****** like KK. She's got the voice of an angel, that's good enough for me.
