Good thread. I live in Voorhees about a mile from Trotters car wash.
Nice to hear players think well of Jerry.

Backed Jerry from day one. Was sick of losing with Landry and was the only Cowboy fan I knew a the time that agreed with his firing.

I kept an open mind on Jerry initially to see what he would do, but I was right there with you on the firing of Landry. It was time for him to go. I'd rather it had happened face to face in private, but he needed to go.

Trotter just confirmed 2 things I have always said. that all players want to play for the Cowboys, they are America's Team, and Jerry is always working to have a winning team day in and day out. that is why I never get upset with Jerry.

A few more things...
3. Eagles players still wanted TO on team
4. Eagles were cheated out of SB win - re: hating the Pats because last year that was probably realized.
5. He may be right about Romo

I disagree that we should have won it. The Cowboys would have lost big to the Pats in SB.... I hate to admit it but you needed THAT TYPE of Giants team to beat the Pats. We just would not have been able to do some of the things the Giants did to win.

You where not the only one I knew it was time for Old Tom to go I agreed that it was time. To this day the people I have talked to still bristle at the way Jerry went about firing Tom Landry.

I did enjoy the apparently candid talk from Trotter.

However...

While TO may or may not have gotten a raw deal in Philly, its not like he doesn't have a certain amount of volitility to him. Lets not swing the pendulum too far in balancing it out.

And again, while I appreciate hearing Trotter's point of view on the items it wouldn't have determined my thinking one way or the other.

In the human population, be it pros or joes, you'll find guys with all sorts of perspectives. I have no doubt that you could find players who don't like Jerry Jones at all, and Eagles/former Eagles who totally believe that TO was a punk.

I think we've all seen and heard enough on both TO and Jerry to reach our own educated conclusions.

But again, I did appreciate the 1st hand report.

I think you have to tremendously respect the overall life of Tom Landry as a football coach and a man.

Nevertheless, I too felt it was time for change. I think it could have been carried out far better than it was of course.

I think Tom's statement that he never would have traded Herschel was one confirmation that it was indeed time for a new set of ideas.

Tom Landry was one heck of a man on and off the field. But he was not perfect. No one is, and no one should be viewed that way.
