I really liked Garrett's offensive gameplan vs the Saints *Merge*

the fake handoff to barber and then romo running caught me by surprise.

One of the plays i haven't seen in a while that seems to get defense offguard is where romo fumbles then picks it up and passes for a huge gain. Love to see that thrown in. Might be to risky for the playoffs though.

Can we get some indication if you intend sarcasm or not? ;)

The OL played better as a unit. There were still a few breakdowns vs the blitz, but there werent any drive killing penalties and false starts in bad situations that have plagued us for alot of the season either.

The other key was how well play action worked last night. The Saints bit really hard on virtually every play action pass we tried.

That's the one right there.

It's amazing how much better the OC "looks" when the players execute better.

I have no doubt he was different.

Play-action was used a decent amount last night and he had some packages that put some different guys on the field.

We're talking about gameplanning. There were some different packages on the field last night, though, and that was good to see.

Play action works when the team has a legitimate running threat and when your receivers get separation and your QB has time to throw. Against the Saints weak secondary there were opportunities there.

This was the same offense we've trotted out all season. We just made plays last night when we needed to.

For the most part, I've been happy with Garrett all season. What I saw last night was better execution and fewer mistakes.

Other than our last redzone sequence (a little too conservative, magnified by Folk's missed fg) I think he called the perfect game.
I agree he was too conservative on that last drive. It was like he was sure Folk would make a fg at that distance and wasn't willing to try for a td at that point. I would have agreed with his playcalling had our fg kicker been a reliable one.

First of all i'm no Garrett hater. I'm actually one of his few fans around Dallas but I just laugh at how we love Garretts playcalling when we win but when we lose he's the worst OC of all time. I honestly didn't see a bit of difference between this game or any other game this season. Romo went deep but I didn't see any different routes. All I saw was execution.

if we could just have #27 (Jenkins?)play defense against us every week. Dat dude was freaking clueless

I think the theory that had Garrett being abducted by aliens and recieving a brain transplant is more believable to some.

Your theory isn't all that bad though.

We didn't run shot-gun as much and allowed our OL to power block according to their strengths. This team was methodical. The game-plan was clearly night and day and even Jimmy Johnson pointed it out.

The problem is he has never called his games like that.

If the playcalling was like that every week than the Garrett hate would be wayyyyy down.

I think he got a close up look of Norvs blueprint last week and decided to go more of that route instead of being ultra conservative.

Exactly... Less shotgun, more play-action, straight power blocking... In the first two series in which we scored, we ran shot-gun only twice. When we go too much shot-gun, we see mistakes start multiplying by our OL. Speed rushers have to only move around Flozell to get to Romo.. Garrett's been getting slammed for not doing that and it is about time he did it...

The game planning was night and day difference...

Nah, this was not the same offense.

Play action worked against both the Chargers and Giants for TDs in both games but was rarely used other than those plays.

Dallas just didn't call play action. The Chargers were selling out all day against the run and Garrett didn't call play action.

Yeah, thats my only gripe with him. I would have trusted Romo there, heck even a sack isn't terrible in that situation, just as good as a stuff up the middle (barring no fumble).

But then again, had romo thrown a pick in my scenario we'd all be calling him an epic doofus.

I continue to maintain that we MUST THROW DEEP!

It opens up the run and underneath routes. After Austin scored a long TD, Saints secondary must respect deep route thus making our running game very effective.

Watching all the highlights....you can't win unless you can stretch the D. This is especially true against good teams which we will be playing.

On the D side. I am a firm believer that we MUST rotate in more front 7 players to spell D Ware and Ratliff. They must be fresh to be effective and yesterday is showing me that we got the horses...just need to put them in. Show some confidence in our DL depth!
