But in my mind I see us more like the 93-94 team. We got the big 3, best running game in the NFL, a TEAM defense and a head coach who isn't scared anymore. Same record and same attitude. We lost opening day and thanksgiving as we did that in 93, and we lost 2 games back to back when our best player went down to injury this year just as Emmitt went down in 93 against the Falcons. Emmitt won MVP that season and Romo is in the discussion. Emmitt also won super bowl MVP that season too.......to be continued........Finish the fight

Would love this. But we just don't have the defense to say this with a straight face.......Haley,Maryland, Tolbert,Lett, Norton, Hennings, Jones,Brown, Smith,Woodson.....etc. LBs might be as good. That's it

I think the 92 season was referenced because there were minimal expectations prior to that season. Many of the players were unknown / unproven. In 93 they were returning Super Bowl champs and everybody was on board the hype train by then.

Looking back at those defenses, and watching the games where they won the NFC and then the SB. It becomes clear the Johnson defense was bend don't break. Other teams would move the ball, but eventually the defense would stifle their progress.

This current version of the Dallas Cowboys doesn't have the name brands associated with those defenses. But they play a bend don't bre4ak style that keeps this team in the game.

But what I find to be similar is this team, as well as the 92 and 93 teams, got punched in the mouth, wiped off the blood and punched back.

There is am old saw that goes defense wins championships. If this team prevails all the way to the championship, some will claim it was the offense that they rode to victory, making that little chestnut false for a day. Any given Sunday they will claim.

But this defense - or Wefense as they call it now - has a huge handprint on where this team is. And perhaps where they are going.

If for no other reason rooting for a squad of no name mutts is what films like Rudy are about. The Karate Kid, Shane... there are a bunch of films and stories like this.

For once I'd love for life to imitate art for a change.

Win this mother - shut my mouth.

Only reason I can see where there is a comparison is due to the youth, and that neither team realized how good they are, or in this year's case, can be.

It's really not fair to compare current teams with that dynastic team because of free agency and the lack of padded practices, etc. Even with that in mind though, this team needs a defense that can stand on its own before being compared to the 90's Cowboys.

We were all making these comparisons in 2007 also ....... even Troy Aikman said that offense was better than his (which I knew was bull-hockey the minute it left his mouth)

This is 2014 and any resemblance to the 90's teams is coincidental and quite frankly easily disected.

Wow,that's a little uncalled for. xwalker's post iincluded a football-related response to you, and he took 3 extra words to point out your error, presumably in the spirit of being helpful. This response of yours is the only one here that's contained no football discussion.

Going by the numbers, this squad is actually a lot like the '91 group. In '91, we ranked 7th in points, 9th in yards, and 17th in both points and yards allowed. This year, we're 5th in points, 7th in yards, 15th in points allowed and 19th in yards allowed. The huge difference, unfortunately, is the age of the quarterback on those two teams.

Yes, I was just trying to help him out and didn't make a big deal about it. I thought he might want to avoid being embarrassed in the future. I once had a manager that hired one person over another simply because the guy kept saying "I seen it". My manager thought that expression made the person sound like a dumb hillbilly. Based on that experience, I decided that I would point it out to people in the future even if it made them mad.

I see a resemblance to the 91 team as well. Hope I am wrong but this is the first taste of the playoffs for the majority of this team.

The expectations were pretty high entering the 92 season the Cowboys were coming off an 11-5 season and a playoff victory. Most felt they were still a year away from winning a SB but the expectations for the 92 season were not minimal and certainly not close to what everyone was expecting for the 2014 team. There was nothing but doom and gloom predictions entering this season with most predicting 4-8 wins for the Cowboys with some picking them to be the worst team in the league. Entering the 92 season the Cowboys were on the rise improving every season since their 1-15 season in 89.

Seems like there's been comparisons made here to the 92, 93 and 95 teams and most of these comparisons are due to our current teams triplets and the Cowboys young OL.

This is a good Cowboys team and they can win it all next year, however the constant comparisons to the 90's teams bother me a bit. They'd have no chance against the '92 Cowboys. Maybe - maybe, you could make a case for the offensive lines being equal and compare the big three (I wouldn't - but one could). However that Cowboys defense in 92 was, in many ways, the heart of that team. Look at this defensive line:
Even their reserves were stars. I believe the '92 team is in contention to be one of the best NFL teams of all time, let alone the best Cowboy team of all time.

The big comparison is the no name defense in 1992, but they were the #1 ranked defense.
