I Think Hurd Is The Man To Replace Glenn...

I like Hurd and think he will do some great things this year.

Please! You don't cut a 4th round pick who was hurt and is changing positions after just one year.

And you definitely don't do this. Stanback will make the team, no problem.

Did this nonsense just become vogue this afternoon? Why is everybody suddenly saying Stanback doesn't make the team. Oh, yeah, there was an article that said he was behind Hurd and Austin, which everybody knew already.

Amazing how little it takes for some of you to fall and and start eating your own.
What's amazing is that that was just an excerpt from an article/blog that was actually saying how Stanback was the most impressive talent but he just wasn't at the development of the other two.

Stanback needs more time and reps but he has shown flashes of being for real. AND it looks like he has good hands- which is so critical but gets over looked by so many gomers who get a buzz by someone big and fast. Or just fast. If you do not catch the ball then nothing else matters- remember Randal Williams?

I personally think I've seen all that Hurd has to offer which is good but only average ability. Not to mention he seems a little less bright than your average joe.

I'd like to see Austin get the chance to play some significant time. I think his speed would surprise.

Yet Hurd is the one the QB and the position coaches consistently talk about being a player in this league.

Hurd's hands, work ethic, and routes are seriously underrated, and I'm not sure why. Typically, once a player makes a few clutch plays and keeps getting better and better, especially at a position of need, fans warm to him. I don't understand why that hasn't happened with Sam, other than the fact that he's not as fast as Austin is.

Well, you know why, cause he is a possession WR on a team looking for a deep threat to stretch the field. If it were a young Joey Galloway on one side, most would see him as perfect. But it ain't like TO is slow.

Hurd is seen alot like Crayton really, and they can be seen as similar players. So what if Hurd beats out Crayton, whats the difference anyway in alot of minds.

I remember Drew Pearson. He wasn't a "blazer" - just ran a tight and precise route... and caught everything.

Miles Austin is like a lotta guys I've seen pass through the 'Boys system. A blazer who never caught a dang thing... either because his hands are like concrete or his routes are so unpredictable the QB can only guess at where to intersect him with the ball.

Based on what I've seen so far - Sam has a pretty good lead on Miles Austin. Hurd's just a dull ole football-playin' dude.

Yeah, I actually do know why, it's just silly. I'm excited to see how Hurd's developed this year. He was a tough player last year, and he's really good on ST. Everything I've heard so far is that he's looked great--precise routes, always open, catches everything thrown to him. From the pics, he's certainly bulked up in the off season.

People get carried away with talent--like speed--that can't be taught. In the process they forget that just because a skill can be taught, it doesn't mean a given player is going to be willing or able to learn it. When you've got a player adding skills year after year, why not get behind him instead of writing him off b/c he doesn't have the physical talent of other players on the roster?

Cause everyone wants to cash in on that lottery ticket, like Austin would be. Alot of physical talent, and the thought is if he is able to pick up the rest, he could be the best in the league at the position. Call it Romosydrome, something that alot have cause we hit the lottery with him so we think every scrub we have can become a top player in the league.

Hard work is always overlooked, in areas other than sports. No reason to think sports are any different. Hurd works hard, but upside is always something that is looked at from youth in order to excite the fanbase, and Hurd just doesn't have that.

The real question is do you see Hurd and Crayton being our future at the position. My answer is no, and that is the real concern on basing our future on them.

I'm telling you. Last year, I'm just now recalling, he was open on SOOO many plays. I saw this live and on television. He was open a lot more than he got thrown to.

I can't call it Romosyndrome, because Romo was a lot more like Hurd than he was like Austin. Henson had a lot more apparent talent than Tony did, and there were a lot of people on this board who consistently said Romo would be no better than a number 2. He had a weak arm. He was too short. He didn't have the intangibles. When he got on the field, though, he produced.

Sam Hurd so far outproduces Austin. Heck, I hope they both work out, Stanback, too. I just don't see why Hurd doesn't get more support considering he's really earned his shot by outworking more apparently talented players.

I think both guys can contribute and I think both guys will ultimately get rotated in and out. Our offense is interchangeable. That's how Garrett runs it. One play T.O. is the wideout. Next, he's in the slot. We're going to move the ball, like we did last year, no matter who is playing WR.

But I think Crayton and Hurd can both contribute.

I just meant that we hope to hit the lottery with an undrafted guy at WR like we did with Romo at QB, hence Romosyndrome since both Austin and Hurd are undrafted.

Like you, I hope they do become all pros. But I'm just not naturally optimistic enough to actually truly believe it will happen.

Hurd put up some pretty crazy numbers in college in a conservative run offense that didn't give WR's much of an opportunity. The NIU offense pretty much revolved around Garrett Wolfe. He's got good good size, freakishly long arms and great ball skills. He was a trendy sleeper pick among draftniks. I was pretty surprised he didn't get drafted.

I love me some Hurd though. I know Austin has him beat on speed but who cares.....It is not all about speed. I have seen hurt catch things that are simply uncatchable! Amazing hands is a good feature in the clutch. I agree with the above post though. They will get swapped out for different plays. Only thing I am wondering now......What will be better.....The Offense, Or the Defense!!?????? Gonna be an awesome season!:starspin

I don't think #3 Wr is even on the roster yet. Look at the glut that the Saints have at WR: David Patten, Devery Henderson, Robert Meacham, Adrian Arrington, Marques Colston, Terrence Cooper And Lance Moore.. One of these guys might wear the star...

Stanbacks on the team without a doubt.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th WR this year are going to be situation based if you ask me. Crayton will be the #2 in most cases but when we have 3 WR's out there it is just going to depend on the play call as to who is out there and what they want to do. Austin can get deep, Crayton is great at finding soft spots and Hurd is the best WR between him, Austin and Stanback.

If you are sending TO deep then Hurd and Crayton will work the middle. If you are trying to get TO open across the field Austin may be going deep.

I can see Austin, Hurd and Crayton each getting over 30 catches this year. Austin maybe not but he will have the best average by far, probably more like 20 catches.

:laugh2: c'mon, Stanback has a spot locked down. Austin would be in jeopardy before him.
