I think it will be dumb to draft a O-lineman at 9

I haven't been on in a while and don't know if it's been covered but there's just no lineman this year worth a pick higher than 20.

Nate Solder might be 6-9 but this guy can't block speed rushers. The guy from Cal got him in the regular season and in the Senior Bowl I believe he gave up two sacks to speed rushers. What I see in Solder is a project. He could develop into a monster but right now imo he will get killed in the NFL.

Castroneva(sp), another guy who I think is not ready for the NFL. It was funny in the Senior Bowl Solder gave up a sack and on the very next play Castroneva gave up one. I was like this has to be the year we need a lineman and there's no Joe Thomas, Jake Long, etc.

I know its a need but why just take one of these guys if they're not worth it? Opinions

totally agree and its basically what everyone has said, even some media writers and draft experts, trade down to 12th spot to 17th spot or so, but stay in that range, get an extra draft pick like a 2nd or 3rd with a 6th thrown in
some teams like Commanders, vikings, may want a qb, and if cam newton, or missouri qb or locker is there, some team maybe willing to trade up to get him, let the draft come to you within your range dont over reach

:starspin

You're right.

The Corners and the defensive lineman are the strength of the top of this draft.

Good thing we have needs for both.

Mid first round to early 2nd there will be value for the o-line.

I'm pretty sure we won't take one at 9. Judging by history, interior linemen and right tackles don't go in the Top-10 because teams don't want to pay Top-10 pick money to them

Hudson Houck is a big USC guy, so Tyron Smith will probably get every look possible. He will be inspected carefully.

Derek Sherrod is going to go higher than people think, imo. He will go top 15, I predict. Sherrod is big and athletic and great in space and very good on the second level. He can pull, seek, and destroy. Importantly, he plays with wide base and has good height. He's a senior and high character player, and he's very young. He played in the SEC. I bet that he will rate very high on the Cowboys' board. He is exactly the type of player that the Cowboys need in order to get over the hump. Taking Sherrod at 9 would be a solid, safe pick, on a player who has upside and left tackle ability and can start from day one at RT. You not only get a starting RT, you get a player who may be better than Free at LT down the road. He gives you depth at LT.

Sherrod is exactly the type of OT that Indianapolis or Philadelphia would trade up for, and Detroit could take him at 13.

Derek Sherrod's name deserves to be in the discussion at 9, and I bet that he will be before it's all said and done.

I agree 100%, even you have you have Solder, Gabe, Sherrod, Constonzo and Smith all rated as 1st round prospects the margin between them is slim. It's possible the first one may not come off the board till 13. If Dallas is really hot on one of them there is no reason to reach at 9.

I'll be honest with you, if Detroit does not take one at 13 you may not see the first OT off the board till 17 or 19 unless someone later in the draft trades up or someone in the top 10 trades down a little to grab one.

I concur, if Dallas stays at #9 they should be looking at DL/LB and CBs. If they move to 12 to 20, they should be looking at OL.

Bingo

Robert Quinn at 9. Just make it happen.

Tyron Smith or Carimi in the 2nd. One will be there. I guarantee it.

Well you would not be able to get a Joe Thomas or Jake Long at 9 either...not even close.

Give me Peterson or Quinn at 9 or Jordan and 10-12 and Carimi or Smith in Round 2.

Just expanded a little but I'm with ya.

Like you said Smith or Carimi in the 2nd. Beautiful. Sounds to good to happen.

Rookie Bryan Bulaga played both the right and left tackle spots for the Packers and did a stellar job handling James Harrison and Lamar Woodley. (He was picked one spot ahead of Dez Bryant in last April's draft.)

Would a Gabe Carimi, Tyron Smith or a Derek Sherrod offer the Cowboys offense a similar lift in 2011?

they are not falling into the w2 nd round

That's what a versatile lineman, whether offensive or defensive can do for a team.

Helps the game plan out a lot.

Bulaga was the most pro ready tackle in last years draft.

The knock on him was that he didn't have as much a ceiling left as Okung, Williams or Davis.

The guy can play guard as well and that's the benefit of having as pro ready a prospect as possible.

Of course this will mean Jerruh breaking another rule of his and drafting O line in the first rd.

I just can't see Dallas taking an O-lineman period at that point. They have always shied away from O-linemen in the first round (I'm not saying it is a good quality of Jerry and his staff, just the way they have always done things). Best thing anyone can hope for if they want o-linemen is that the Cowboys trade back. They would then have two second round picks to spend on the line. Since Dallas is stocked at offensive skill positions, I fully expect defense in round 1.

No one is gonna give away a 2nd Rd draft pick to move up a few places in the 1st Rd. We may get an extra 3d Rd pick by sliding down but Jerrah better get the (impact) player that he desires because he won't get a second chance. Belichick and the Patriots have 3 picks in the first 33 picks. They will definitely want to grab an impact DE, OG, or OLB in whatever order it presents itself. Jerrah might have lightning strike twice with Patrick Peterson (or other impact player like Quinn or Von Miller) falling to #9.

If not, he'll probably decide to slide down a few picks to get his stud OT/OG because Minnesota or Miami may want to move up to pick #9 to grab Cam Newton from Washington if Carolina, Arizona, 49ers, or Tennessee pass on him). If this happens, the Cowboys will definitely get a great opportunity to draft both a stud OT & OG for the OL and a mammoth NT for Ryan's defense in whatever order it presents itself. We all saw BJ Raji's impact as NT for Dom Capers and Bulaga's impact playing RT again Lamar Woodley last night. Hopefully, these two young Packer stud's IMPACT was NOT lost on the Cowboys front office and HC Garrett and DC Ryan. We could conceivably come away with an stud RT (D. Sherrod), OG (R. Hudson or B. Ijalana), and NT (Kenrick Ellis or Jerrell Powe) in the first three rounds (with an extra 3d Rd pick for a physical CB/FS).

Talk about playing PHYSICAL next year. It could happen with some SMART moves by the Cowboys in this year's draft.
