I think it's about time to get Luke Gifford out there!

I dont know alot about him besides in preseason it seemed like the coaches liked him from what I read. I think he got hurt? Ankle injury maybe?

I guess my only issue is I cant see LVE or Smith being on the bench for him being that hes unproven.

I think now is the time to give guys a chance to show up who havent had opportunities. Maybe we get a spark and luck out with a player being much better then we anticipated.

Yes he suffered a high ankle sprain in preseason...he looked like a solid contributor to that point though...preseason or not. I noticed he was in uniform against the Jets but not used.I'm concerned about the drop off of LVE and Jaylon from last year.More Joe Thomas and Luke might be a shot in the arm to this defense.

Yea its concerning for me as well. It's especially bad because we just paid Jaylon and I really thought based off of last season that he was going to be extremely good this year.

I know I don't have anything to back this up with and might get crap for it but I really think Jaylon and LVE are going to find their footing. I dont have a good explanation for why things have gone bad at the LB position but both guys have showed us they have the ability to be good players.

Maybe its blind hope but I think they are much better then their play right now suggests and we will see them improve.

If we are depending on an undrafted rookie linebacker to come in and make a difference. The team is in worse shape than I thought.
Leighton and Jaylon look like they are lost out there.they are either injured and playing through or poor coaching..... or combo of both.they look nothing like what we saw last year..which was very promising to say the least.

Your right man. Just trying to spitball thoughts based on this team underperforming.

It would be nice to see guys get on the field though If they are an upgrade, even a small one.

In this case probably not but maybe at other positions it would Have a bigger impact.

It’s been one of the more frustrating aspects of the season. For sure.

I could be wrong, but I think both jaylon and lve are playing different LB positions
to what they played last season.
can anyone confirm?

Who here wants to see some Luke?

Damn sure showed up in preseason as a possible great find on this team before the injury.
Put Luke Gifford at MLB, and let Jaylon and LVE play at the OLB positions to best use their speed, quickness, outside containment, blitzing, tackling, coverage and playmaking abilities.

The DE's are getting deep in the backfield attaking the QB. While the DT's are being pushed off the line. So the DT's are in our linebackers lap while the DE's just left huge holes in our defensive front.

Now keep in mind, that our linebackers are asked to get deep drops in our bend but don't break scheme. Right? But they are also asked to attack the line of scrimmage to fill their run gaps, in this one gap system.

So those two things don't add up. If you are going to play a BBDB, requiring your LB's to get deep drops, then you need to play a two gap system in front on those LB's. So they won't be attacking the LOS to fill their run gap duties while also having to fill in the gaps left by the DE's getting up field. That puts our linebackers in a bad position while having DT's in their laps.

So fresh blood in a warn out scheme isn't going to change very much. We need bigger defensive linemen and a better defensive coordinator.

He would make a better head coach than Garrett!!!! Let's get him out there!

The shot in the arm would have been to get the thumper back here, THE DRANKER!

There have been some pretty good undrafted players in the NFL, even linebackers. Draft status doesn't mean anything except that the "experts" missed.
