I think its finally to the point. Give Jones/Choice more carries.

I'm not saying make someone else the starter at this point. I think its just clear that we're more more explosive with choice and jones. But if you see one of the running backs struggle, why give him the most carries?

Choice had 3 carries against Oakland, and had more rushing yards than barber did with 14.

Jones only had 7 carries.

If we run the ball 20-25 times per game.

Barber shouldn't have more than 7-8 carries. And I would prefer we actually use him when we should... in the redzone, and short yardage situations.

Its time to start using our young players to their potential. (That includes Martellus Bennett).

I don't want to bring up this idea of "saving" stuff til december. But I really do hope that Garrett is going to unleash these guys. Especially with us going into New York.

It's a simple formula I've been preaching for a while.

Barber starts and gets the first series so he can "set the tone." Then we sit him until the 4th quarter.

Choice gets the next two series with Felix sprinkled in. Every third series Felix comes in for the whole thing. Barber comes in on goal line no matter what.

Then the fourth comes around and we hit them with MB3, and he closes it out for us.

Again, there is more to playing RB than running the ball.

Barber is hands down the best blocker (although Choice is no scrub, and Jones is improving) and that is why he is on the field the most.

Barber is 3 months younger than me at 26. I've worked some hard jobs and the former injuries and hard work are starting to surface. He's not what he used to be and in a year or two he'll be the odd man out.

Well here's the thing you see if Garrett does that we probably will win out all the way through the Super Bowl which means Wades job is saved and Garrett doesn't get to be the head coach, so no it won't happen.;)

Garrett is happy giving the illusion of a #1 offense by padding the stats against scrubs, not top contenders...

choice should get an amt of carries = to barbers + jones in a perfect world.Someone mentioned blocking, hopefully as choice and jones develop as blockers we can work towards that . barber short yardage and finisher. Felix on screens wildcat change up etc. This seems fairly obvious.

you all so miss the real issues here. First, Barber is a flat out stud in QB protection. Jones and Choice are not. Second, Barber is a far better receiver than Jones and Choice. He's the best all around back. To not give him the majority of the snaps would be moronic.

No doubt Barber needs to play but Felix Jones needs a Julius Jones amount of PT.

Hes better than JJ ever was and it only helps Barber by doing this.

Plus Felix has gotten soooo much better on his blocking.

well its a lot more interesting then all those moronic roy williams threads. I do think that Barber is clearly not 100% and should be rested until he is. Choice and Jones can do just fine without him.

Running the ball 3 times as much with your third best RB at actually running the ball because he is slightly better at blocking is moronic.

And no, I don't think Barber is a particularly better receiver than Choice or Felix. Heck, Choice caught a 20 yard seam route this year, have you ever seen Barber catch anything other than a checkdown?

And if Choice is so bad at pass protection, why is he in there on many passing downs?

This theory that Barber is so much better than Choice and Felix at everything else besides running only surfaced when people desperately needed an excuse to why Garrett was being a stubborn moron about this. Even if Barber is, which I don't particularly agree with, its no reason to give him the lion share of the actual run plays.

and when this happens, people will say "player X isn't getting the ball enough!"

this is why i was never worried about losing TO. we've got more than enough talent to spread the ball around with so 1 loud mouth self centered athlete just wasn't worth it anymore.

I understand the Starter positions and all but what scares me is the simple fact that we probably won't keep all three of them. If we lose Choice in the off season he will be a starter and he will be very good and we all know it.

Choice is the third down back. You don't put a back who is barely better than a scrub at blocking in on obvious passing downs when his first obligation is to protect the QB.

As for playing RB otherwise, Barber went to the Pro Bowl and is most effective in the role of small doses early and heavy late when his physicality has greater impact, and his lack of burst and lateral quickness is not as important. There is a reason we don't see the tackle breaking, etc. we did before. First and foremost, he's still hurt, but secondly, that style doesn't have the same impact on a fresh defense.

Choice is the best all around back we have.

Not so much. I saw Barber get run over against Green Bay by a LB. More inportantly, Choice is the third down back. You don't put a RB who is not a good blocker in as a 3rd down back in our scheme.

Second, Barber is a far better receiver than Jones and Choice.

Not better than Choice. Choice has made downfield catches on seam routes. Barber has ALWAYS caught check down dump-offs. As someone else said, Choice's YAC is superior to Barber's as well.

No, he's not. He's the slowest of the three, and doesn't have Choice's quickness, vision or burst. I would even argue Choice is the best between the tackles runner of the 3. Given the above, plus Choice's catching and blocking ability, he by far is the best all around back.

Felix is clearly the most explosive both as a receiver and as a runner. His presence would really open up the passing game by forcing the safeties and LBs to commit more to stopping Felix before he gets going. Against the Raiders you could see firsthand what effect those big plays in the running game had in opening up the passing attack.

Choice also deserves some carries because he is also very good and gives the defense another running style to defend.

Barber just doesn't look right and I do wonder if he has already worn out his body from that bruising running style. Barber never had alot of speed or great vision. His style was to play with tremendous power at the point of attack and he has now lost that and is nothing more than a mediocre player at present.

The most efficient use of the 3 would probably be 50% Felix, 30% Choice, 20% Barber. Barber would be reserved primarily for short yardage and 4th quarter closer - roles that he excels in. Choice could get most of the carries in the red zone where his superior vision is best utilized to run the ball in tight spaces. Felix would get the bulk of general carries between the 20s with Choice spelling him from time to time.

The bottom line is that when you have an offensive weapon as potent as Felix is you are doing the other team an incredible favour by putting him on the bench. We need to make the other team's DC sweat over how to defend the new version of triplets: Austin-Felix-Witten.

barber should be our 3rd down back and closer. let the more explosive guys start off the game. i said this before the season even started, felix should start, choice should get a few carries, barber should finish off each quarter.
