I think we should trade down out the first for a 1sr next season and pick up a 2nd this year....

with my 2 2nds this year i would draft Rodgerick Wright and that WR from Oregon.

Wright was considered to be a top 5 or 10 pick if he came out last year and could learn alot behind Fergy, i still don't know how he fell but who cares he's still a stud.... and the Wr from Oregon would give us young depht....

that's my 2 cents on the draft.............

Depends on who slides on draft day. I always find that the saddest part of the draft watching a guy sitting at the studio or at home with the camera crew there waiting to hear his name when many felt he should have gone off the board already.

Hopefully it won't be my boy DeAngelo:(

I believe we will trade up. Jerry is going for it all this year and will get what he wants no matter what the cost.

I'll bite - Any names you want to share?

This isn't my first choice of strategies but, I wouldn't be against it for the right player.

I doubt BP trades away his #1 pick when he only has 2 years left. It's now or never.

Agreed.

BP has a 2 year window with the likes of Key, Glenn, Drew Bledsoe, and possibly LA - as well as still coaching.

Either he gets to the Super Bowl in the next 2 years, or I think that's about it with BP at the helm.

Depending how the dominoes fall we might be in a good situation to trade down to the mid-late 20's and still grab Carpenter. LBers always tend to slip a little.

That would make me very happy.

Although I agree with whomever said finding a trading partner will be difficult.

I also feel that we'll do our best to trade down. However...that all depends upon whether or not we will be able to find a team who is wanting to trade up into our 18th spot. Just because Parcells may want to trade down for additional picks and better value, that may not necessarily happen for us. As has often been the case before though, should someone unexpectedly slide, who was expected to be off the board by 18, then we "may" find that some other team will want to move up into the 18th spot in order to get him.

And one team which "may" decide to trade up is the Seahawks, IMO, if they lose S. Alexander (assuming one of the top RBs slides to 18).

Miami is starting to get interesting to me. If say Cutler slides or one of the RBs slide, I could see them possibly trying to work a deal with us. This whole Ricky situation has kind changed the landscape a bit for those guys.

You are referring to Demetrius Williams. I wouldn't spend a 2nd rounder on him. He's got a lot of talent, but he's not that big, nor is he THAT fast. He also drops alot of catchable balls. I've seen him up close the last 2 years.

One of the top backs will most likely slide. At least to #18. Between Bush, Maroney, Williams, and White, I would put money on it that at least one of thme slides out of the top 15.

They just drafted Ronnie Brown. Miami isn't trading anything for the chance of drafting a RB.

Who is going to trade a 2nd this year and a 1st next year for the #18?

Who is going to be available at #18 that a team is going to want to give up 2 high picks for?

I don't think there is any way Cutler falls past Miami at #16 unless Cutler looks horrible at combines and starts a free fall.

But he is the only player that could be available at #18 that someone would want to trade up for (maybe to try to get him before the Chiefs grab him).

Alternatively, I could see a team maybe wanting to jump up and grab Santonio Holmes if he is there at #18. He is the clear #1 WR. If he falls to us, I don't think he falls past San Diego at #19 or KC at #20. Maybe a team would want to leap frog to grab him.

Thats it. If those guys are off the board, I don't see anyone at #18 that a team can't get at #32 or in the top of the 2nd.

I don't think we'll have a problem finding teams to trade down with. Five teams that come to mind just off the top of my head r Denver, Cincy, Chicago, Tampa Bay, and Carolina. I don't know what exact draft position they have but I know it's behind us. And if a top WR, DE, or TE is there I can see those teams be willing to trade with us.

Can you explain that in any way?

Why would Denver, Cincy, Chicago, Tampa Bay, or Carolina want to trade up and give away valuable pics? Surely you must be envisioning some scenario.

Bottom half of the first round all the way to the end of the 2nd is going to be all about equal value.

A team has to have a real specific desire to trade up because the same value will be there for about 40 picks.

I can see Dallas trying to trade down.

I don't like Wright for Dallas. I think Wright is a good player and could possibly be great if put in the right situation. Seems to lack motivation at times, but he is very young right now. I just don't see him fitting into the Dallas defensive system. He is not a 3-4 nose guard and he would be wasted in that position. He could be a 3-4 end, but Dallas already has Spears and Canty. Wright is best suited for the 4-3 system in my opinion.

They have to have another guy IMO. I am aware of the fact that they just drafted Ronnie Brown but Saben is a Parcells desciple. He believe that you must have guys who can carry the load. He's never been a guy who depends on just one back. I would not be surprised at all if Miami looked at RB in the draft. You look at the running style of Brown and you have to be aware of the fact that this kid is going to sustain a great deal of punishment in the NFL. If you want to do a rewind, you can look at Houston and what they did with Campbell in the 80s. The smart thing to do for that franchise is to protect there investement IMO. Now, that might be through FA or it might be later in the draft but either way, they are going to need another guy who can carry the rock. I would not be surprised if they looked at that position early. Saben believes in skilled players on offense. In this, he goes away from Parcells, who believes that meat and potatos guys can get the job done. Saben believes in applying the maximum amount of pressure possible offensively with speed and skill.

Saban may want to have another RB, but Brown is a workhorse.

BP has Julius, but grabbed insurance with Barber (4th round), A. Thomas (FA), and Thompson (undrafted FA).

The suggestion here is to back up Ronnie Brown---a large back workhorse that is much more durable than Julius---Saban will want to trade up in the first round to draft another starting runningback?

It's just asinine to suggest that.
