'I want it to be a surpise': Cowboys' Williams speaks to 2.0 him, says 'Big Sam ready'

He didn't show as much growth as I had hoped from his rookie year to sophomore year, but at minimum is a solid piece in the DE rotation. I think he'll get his opportunity this year and hope he comes back stronger and more motivated than ever.

The good news is if he does ball out, I believe he'll be a restricted free agent.

My expectations are not high with the type of injury he is coming off of
I like that he wasn't rushed back. They've taken all the time necessary. It will be slow early on until he gets comfortable with it in game speed/action

He was coming along nicely and between him and Kneeland, I think Dallas could have a good 1-2 punch.

This is a GREAT article about Sam and his recovery from surgeries. It sounds like he has really done the right things and will be more than ready this summer. Very inspiring read. I especially enjoyed reading the "Bigger, Stronger, and Built for Impact" part.

Sam Williams. Cowboys fans haven't forgotten the name, even if the draft cottage industry has lost track of his whereabouts over the years. Since being selected in 2022, mentions of Williams have ebbed and flowed for two seasons— whether about underutilization, inconsistency, or flashes of raw pass-rushing brilliance that teased an imminent breakout.

A brutal ACL and MCL tear in the build up to 2024's all-important Year 3 ended those convos. A season of "what could have been" turned into silence as he underwent season-ending surgery and landed on IR. Seven months post-injury though, the silence is breaking.

Questions about Sam Williams’ trajectory are back on the table. Will 2025 be the year he levels up, finds consistency, and becomes a real force in the Cowboys’ pass rush? The conversations are picking back up because Williams himself is inspiring the talk. “Big Sam ready.”

And he says it with a grin, one that suggests he knows something others don’t yet. He’s locked in on recovery, dialed in on his body, and focused on proving that when he gets his shot, he’s making it count.

Big Sam wasn't ready before the injury. Not expecting him to be ready after it. I hope that he is, especially since he's a second-round pick and we needed more from him.

he has been a disappointment to this point. he got on my shiet list when last year he planned a victory party for the GB game before game was even played..... I hated the fact even having a victory party for a 1st round playoff game...sets the bar low.

and coming off knee injury like that...not sure what he can do.

Just another in the long line of risky picks in the second round that didn’t work out. He’s spent more time in the news, and getting called for ridiculous penalties than he has doing anything good.
