The guy knows offense. He is only 54 years old. He has been around the league enough to hire a quality DC. He knows what it is like to coach in Dallas.

Norv is the man.

If Norv is able to bring is a good staff then I think he would have a chance to succeed. I don't know how much power he had in Wash and Oak in this area. I think that is a must for any coach we may hire.

Not really sold on Norv but if we believe Romo is the future, how can we not bring in Norv Turner.

Norv may be a frontrunner right now.

What I see is that we get a great D-Coordinator interviewing here (Ryan, Rivera, Phillips, hell, even Singletary). The second that guy starts talking to Jerry about how he is going to use Ware and Roy to get the most out of their talents, Jerry will be smitten and the Norv idea will go out the window.

I have always been a fan of the way He called plays (it was easy with the triplets). He always keep the defense off balance and attacked weakness.

not sure how he will be as a head coach. I don't think you can judge him
from his last two coach eating positions.

Norv on offense and a kick butt dc ---I would be happy

All I know is that SF offense went from the worst in the league to one to be reckoned with in one year...Smith went from QB bust to promising franchise passer...Gore went from a risky afterthought to one of the best young runners...and the OL that took our over-the-hill LA really put up some serious rushing yards.

I think he would really do well with our young QB and the receivers he has...I know we'd see Witten as involved as Novachek was...and I think MBIII and JJ might become focal points instead of sidekicks.

WE won't have a problem finding a good DC, imo.

Starting to warm up to this as well. So long as he brings in a top tier DC. Singletary would be fine with me. I also liked the idea of Jason Garrett being the OC. Another member mentioned this in another post and to be quite honest, I would be very comfortable with those three guys heading our franchise.

However, like others I have my doubts about Norv as a head coach. Perhaps third time is the charm.

My first choice would be Jeff Fisher, but I wouldn't give up draft picks.

Not a real big Cowher fan. Yes, he won a Super Bowl. But the rest of his tenure can be attributed to beating the Bengals and the Browns 4 times a year.

So, why not Norv? Who's that much better?

If you want Norv, and I am not totally against it, then you must be ok with turning the Defense over to a guy that has never been a DC. Norv is a great Offensive mind, no doubt and I think he could do wonders for Romo and even someone like TO. I am sure Micheal will be in TO's ear to trust the guy. But Norv don't know defense, and since we couldn't get a coach to make a lateral move, ie , Philllips, Ryan, the DC would have to be an assistant now, a LB coach, a Secondary coach, etc,, that scares me a little bit. I would rather go with a Defensive HC at this time and really bring this Defense to its full potential.

Me too - I think once Jerry gets in the room with guys he'll see that it isn't 1992 anymore and Norv is just a guy who is destined to be a wandering OC for the rest of his career.

Folks on this board place far too much stock in his work with Troy back in the day. Norv had a fine piece of steak there and did well with it - it wasn't like Troy was going to suck otherwise -- and folks need to spare me the "Troy say this and that stuff" - he and Norv are friends and we all would speak well of our friends to help them out.

I would not be dissapointed with Todd Bowles as DC.

If by "reckoned with" you mean 26th in the league in scoring and 29th in passing, he did just that. They were 30th in the league in scoring the year before. So Norv singlehandedly skyrocketed them up four spots to 26th. That and spending a lot of money on free agents and the sixth pick of the draft on Vernon Davis. And playing in the conference with the worst collection of defenses in the NFL.

What's most unfair is how people point to his failures at Oakland. Folks, that's unfair. Oakland hasn't won anything .. other than going to a Superbowl two years before Norv took over and a tuck rule away from going to a second one .. .but other than that, you can't win there. Look at what he was dealing with there. A bunch of fans who still dwell in the "glory days". A meddling owner/GM who forced staff on him. An egotistical, primadonna WR who is given free reign over the organization. You can't win in that type of environment. Totally different from what he would have in Dallas.

Maybe the thing to do is to give Norv a shot and if the team really responds to him then it will be a winner. If the team does not, then Jerry can make a serious run at Cower next year and Norv can always step back down to an OC. What better shot is he going to get as a HC again? If he can get the most out of this talent and prove he should be a HC then we keep him. Might be the best of both worlds.
