I want to see more of Gus Johnson

I like Gus Johnson but there is a million Gus Johnsons out there.

You watch any preseason game and these guys are a dime a dozen.

I also like Gus Johnson. But I still think he's destined for the PS. I just think the Cowboys could have done better to shore up the departure of Murray. The runningback position is a big IF and won't be settled until they actually play the real games and we get to see them in action.

I just wish they cut Dunbar and bring in a real bruiser that can break tackles and gain extra yardage after the hit. None of our runningbacks are like that. I'm not in a panic. But just a little concerned.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say our season doesn't depend on the talent at RB.

We have Troy Hambrick running behind this line (don't you know). That's what some fans think of our running game now.

It doesn't depend on talent at RB. However, we still need talent at that crucial position. The idea that anyone can run behind this oline is a myth. We still need a runningback with some talent - that has good vision, and that can see holes and accelerate and possibly break tackles. They also need to be focused and stay out of trouble and not get injured. If the FO can guarantee that Randle won't steal anymore underwear or McFadden will remain healthy throughout than I'm fine with that. But as right now, we won't know for sure how they will hold up until they actually play.

Your right the season doesn't depend on RB talent. But the running game is crucial to our success. We finally got to the playoffs because we finally decided to one day run the ball and everything went into a positive direction after that.

We are talking about McFadden.
He has very good ball security numbers over his career. 5 fumbles in 4 years; that's both lost and recovered.

That's actually not something I was aware of with DMC. Makes me like him a lot more. Hold onto the ball, pass protect, and I'm ok with you in the lineup.

Thanks for pointing that out.

We didn't even have that type of RB last year.. Heck, Murray is a great example of anybody being able to run behind this OLine because his vision is about as bad as it gets.

Murrays strength were getting dirty yards and imposing his will.

Seeing the hole? Not so much.

Joe Randle had more big runs than Murray on almost 300 less carries.

You forget that Murray has always been a productive runningback averaging 5 yards a carry throughout his career even without this vaunted oline. Yes he was productive without Tsmith, Fbeard, and Martin. So to say that its all because of this oline is not being truthful to facts and proves without a doubt that you STILL need a good back to run behind this oline.

We can say all we want about Murray and what he did badly but that doesn't erase the fact he was productive and helped bring us back into the playoffs. As of right now I'm not too happy with what we got. We could have done better. The FO doesn't think and I HOPE they are right. They have been wrong before and I'm HOPING that what they say is the right thing.

He's show that he is probably the best back, out of the backfield in passing situations and he's shown that he is probably the best blitz package back.

Don't care. If he can't gain over 3.5 yards with our line i don't care if he catches 75 of 75 balls. Dunbar is more effective out of the backfield as a receiver.

Doesn't really matter if I care or if you care. All that really matters is what the Coaching Staff cares about.

My thinking as well -- the Cowboys have an excellent judge of talent in Will McClay. He and his staff of scouts are totally likely to have expert opinions of what's available and what isn't. If and when the time comes to take action, I have no reason to suspect they'll be stumped to do whatever might be best to remedy the problem. If there's simply no practical solution available, they're more than likely to be well aware of that also.
