the stadium is packed.....cowboys are worth 3.2 billion....money drives Jerry, not winning. nothing is changing in Big D until JJ is no longer GM and we all know when that day is. all we can do is watch and give thanks that the NFC East is a very weak division

2 things this franchise can do right now that will rejuvenate this fan base. Fire Garrett & draft a 1st round highly touted QB. Whether it's successful or not doesn't matter, trying matters. But staying with Garrett for 7 years, same with Romo, has done nothing but waste 7 years of our lives on watching this mess. Try something else man.

Whatever about Garrett a $100 million contract means you haven’t seen the last of Romo for a few years yet (unless his back problems get much worse).

Jason Garrett has the hottest coaching seat in football. And everyone knows it. And talks about it.

That's called getting a pass?!?

Every year its the same garbage. Here is how they pretend to be accountable:

Garrett:
"We need to watch some film, and get things cleaned up. Correct the mistakes, and build on the good stuff and get ready for those Titans, they are a good football club."

Romo:
"I have to be better, and I will be. Protecting the ball is the most important thing. I have to do a better job of that."

Before you know it, we'll be at week 10 and you will be hearing the same comments.
Gotta do a better job.
Gotta protect the ball.
Gotta get things cleaned up.
Gotta get better.

Here's an idea: How about doing these things in the off-season/ pre-season, and when week 1 comes you can hit the ground running?

I don't post a hell of a lot. Been here a long time, but I want my voice to be heard !
I hope some of the Dallas media read this forum - I know Sturm has started posting some great articles, hopefully someone will read my rant and act or explain why.
Why is Garret getting a pass - I listened to yesterday's explanation after the game of the infamous 2 and 1 debacle. When asked about it, he stated he did not want to get into specifics - why not ? Don't we the paying and supporting public deserve to know just what the hell happened ? Why no follow up questions from the media, including Broaddus. It seems they take what he says (a lot) and just let it go...why? The play calling has been a bone of contention for a few years - stop coddling him and make him accountable as well !
If Romo checked out of the run - as we all expect he did, but the rest of the team played the run. Say so ! Then bench him for a series. He has done this for far too long now, with no repercussions. He is not some rookie that benching will damage his ego. He's been a starting QB for what now, 9 years ? Pull a Parcells and reel his *** in. If he is going off the reservation, as I think he has been doing for the past few years, take back the control ! If Garrett can't control his own QB, he has to go ...
I love Romo, I think he is what is best, and worst about this team. Parcells was right though, he needs to be managed - and both he and Garrett need to stop this garbage. We have heard all off-season of the new commitment to run the ball, and they have allocated a lot of assets to do just that. If you want to be a physical team you have to play a little smash mouth football. If the run play had of been stopped, (which I doubt) line up and smash it up in there again. If its stopped again, you kick the field goal, but you have told every one on the field and in the crowd - we are going to run it down your throat ! It's what you told us you wanted to do right ??? We had just marched down the field at about 6.3 yards a carry or something. Tell me San Fran did not think, OK they are scared to run in the red zone. Just plain dumb.
Be accountable for your actions.
Same as hearing that nothing will change as far as giving Romo the chance to audible out of calls going forward - WHAT ! Are you kidding ? "I'm disappointed how I played, we will look at the tape and get it corrected." Sorry, heard that way too many times already. HE is the only way we can have anything resembling a chance this season, but Him, Garrett and Jones needs to be accountable, and somewhat truth full, if they want us to stick with this "Backs to the wall" season. Some body get after these guys - ask some tough questions, and if they skirt around the question, ask it again !
Are we not smart enough to handle an honest answer ?
Somebody make these guys accountable - please !

Here's the #1 problem with the Cowboys - accountability.

If the GM of the team doesn't bear any accountability, and their job is never to be threatened, no matter how poor the performance is, how can anyone else be held truly accountable?

It's a top down problem.

Look, everyone is mad but it really does no good but just allowing yourself to vent.
Jerry extended Romo and NOT Garrett. Romo is his guy for better or worse
until the end of the 2016 season. Jerry is gonna roll with his 100mil investment
until all is lost and as long as visitors buy up tickets so the stadium is full so get
used to the way things are and likely to stay. Garrett is on his last hurrah and Romo
will still be here no matter how bad he plays unless he gets killed on a sack.

That's the way things are done in Dallas so get used to it or root for the Skins...

Not particularly, why should you? You don't get to ask the director why you hated the ending of his movie. I don't think paying for a ticket entitles you (or me) to anything. What coach worth his salt gives details like that? I don't want Garrett telling exactly what keyed Tony to change the play because that might help teams cause similar chaos. I'm not defending the play, just that dissecting one play out of many doesn't tell the story.

If Romo checked out of the run - as we all expect he did, but the rest of the team played the run. Say so ! Then bench him for a series.

Bench Romo for a series because the offense wasn't in sync for one play? I don't think that's the solution to any problems. If Romo doesn't turn his game around and lead the offense, then this team isn't going anywhere. And I'll give it a few games before I jump off a ledge with our worst fears realized, he's earned some benefit of the doubt.

Why is it that when people point at Jones as being the problem, and the least accountable person in the organization, other fans suggest that you root for another team?

We should just ignore the real problem? If that works for you, that's your prerogative. I will call out the problem as I see it.

I'm just saying that it matters not what everyone on this board thinks. Jerry's cash register is
ringing no matter what colors are filling the seats. As Jerry said last year, it's all about the show...
not winning. He has shown over the past 20 years that he is running this team for better or
worse because he made the investment in it and he's going to milk this cow until he
fades into the El Paso sunset. Romo is only accountable to Jerry who signs his
checks and everyone knows it on the team. Garrett has to watch his step or he
will be taking the bus to his retirement home.

It's not just one play though, this has happened over the course of the last few seasons. Hence, the rant. I would just like some of the reporters, media type people to maybe make things a little more uncomfortable at these times. I know it will not change anything in the big picture. But show a little heart, skewer them at press time alittle and don't accept the same old company line. "We will look at tape, clean it up, stack one good play, one good day on top of another."

As most probably know... I've asked this question for years. Garrett has been treated with ten times (or more) the respect that his predecessor was despite worse results on the field. Why? What makes him so special?

The short answer is that they're biased. They like Jason. A lot of them knew him from when he played here, and most of them predicted he'd turn this team around. And like many posters here, they don't want to admit they were wrong. They really thought that going to Princeton, being young and thin, and giving "professional" grammatically-correct press conferences meant he'd be a good head coach.

Fortunately, though they by and large still treat him with kid gloves, more and more media lately seem to be coming around to the truth that he's simply not a good coach.

I guess it's a process.

But staying with Garrett for 7 years, same with Romo, has done nothing but waste 7 years of our lives on watching this mess. Try something else man.

9-7, 13-3, 9-7, 11-5, that is what our records were when we actually had a defense and supporting cast (coaching mainly) around Romo. The defensive play and supporting play deteriorated, as well as our record the past 4 years in a row.

It is such a shame that Romo has been dealt such a bad hand the past 4 years, over the past 4 years he's had the worst defense, Owner/GM, and Head Coach out of any QB in the league. Ok, ok, they may not be the worst, but they're pretty darn close, and if you don't think it plays a HUGE factor in the reason we've been 8-8 the past 3 years then you should honestly turn in your Football card.

I've been hearing we should've moved on from Romo, but what QB currently in the NFL could win with this Busch league team? Peyton Manning? Please, he had a better defense and supporting cast last year and still got blown out in the Super Bowl by 40+ points, with our team it'd be 60+. Russell Wilson? Is he going to bring along his #1 defense with him as well? Aaron Rodgers? Is he going to throw for 600 yards and 6 TDs every game? Because if not it won't matter.

If you're gonna talk about this year and say Romo sucks, he's possibly gonna be our weakest link, yada yada yada that's fine. But don't act like the guy hasn't played at a high level since he's been here, a lot of teams in the NFL would kill to have had a QB such as Romo for as long as he's been here.

Also saying "Romo has done nothing but waste 7 years of our lives on watching this mess" is a very simple minded approach, it runs a lot deeper than that. Romo really hasn't wasted those years, but more so an inept GM/Owner and one of the worst defenses in history that has been our achilles heel. I'm not saying Romo hasn't played a part in our failures, because he definitely has, but he's been one of the least of our worries since he's taken over in '06.

I don't know, the list of excuses that circulate without any diminishing effects...would at least to this fan, eventually be seen as a poor substitute for the truth.

There is absolutely no corporation in the country, that does not operate in a functional bottom line as to product.

In the game of football, one doesn't, in a final analysis, depend upon art work, concerts, rodeos, and occasional playoff agenda to remain in the business for a football team. Even the teams that turn most revenue into their own pockets, there is a final product that all aspire to achieve.

That is just the nature of a business and the premise of capitalism.

One just does not achieve top of industry results by not making a generally better item for sell.

That applies to all pictures, whether the Cowboys or Jacksonville. The final product has to warrant purchase.

I, as a fan, just am not going to switch into a Chicken Little, and suddenly claim the sky finally is falling for these Cowboys. One can say that this past Sunday was at least an eye opener for the Cowboys franchise. I'll grant that, but this also isn't fly by night snake oil sales as well.

Oh, marketing will in due course, embrace issues, and the results will, through a good organizational and support team, find it's way back onto the field. And we'll all be glad again.

Romo holds himself accountable enough.

What he needs is a coach who will work to limit mistakes, even if that means taking away some of his freedom.

He holds himself accountable but he never learns from it.

I think the better answer is that, despite what you may perceive as his weaknesses, Jason is very articulate and does a much better job than Wade did of managing the Dallas media. And they sense it, know they won't get anywhere, ask the same questions multiple times and he simply redirects them each time because he's smarter than most of them.

There have been more than a few difficult games and each had a correspondingly difficult press conference afterward. But the guy is teflon-coated, so it doesn't go anywhere. To-date, there hasn't been a lot of daylight between him and the owner, either.

And that's a really good thing for Dallas, overall. I don't ever want to go back to the days of beat reporters suggesting to a head coach's face that they could do a better job coaching the team. That was the nadir of local Dallas sports beat journalism as far as I'm concerned.

To the OPs point, I'd like to see the media press Garrett a little more, too. They have room to. I have no doubt he'd handle it well, but I do think they ought to ask him more tough questions and for more follow up.

so ask the media not to let up. tell them if they don't follow up and press on those issues, you will stop reading their site (advertising dollars). tell jerry the same thing. stop watching the games. going to the games, etc. until that happens. until they feel the pain in the wallet, they will continue. there is no reason to stop.

I disagree with benching a QB for a series? to send what message? this ain't high school or college. he made a mistake. so did aaron Rodgers. so did eli. so did Andrew luck.

fortunately or unfortunately we have tied our destiny to romo. live or die with him. without a QB you don't succeed in the NFL. unless you tell me there is another QB that's better than romo, not willing to accept the change. so what's your alternative? Weeden? why do you think he would be better than romo?
