I want to talk about accountability

I think the better answer is that, despite what you may perceive as his weaknesses, Jason is very articulate and does a much better job than Wade did of managing the Dallas media. And they sense it, know they won't get anywhere, ask the same questions multiple times and he simply redirects them each time because he's smarter than most of them.

There have been more than a few difficult games and each had a correspondingly difficult press conference afterward. But the guy is teflon-coated, so it doesn't go anywhere.
No, I still think it's mostly that they like him. Too many of them, like Laufenberg and Galloway and Cowlishaw and the other guys who have been around forever, were friends with him and were touting him before he ever gave a press conference as HC. Even people like Moose and Troy who are more national now local influenced the locals.

If you're saying he's been good at crafting his image to make himself teflon-coated, then sure, that's true. Whether that's really worthy of great admiration is highly up for debate.

The other part that kiheikiwi didn't even get in to is that much of the disgust and blame that previously went to the coach (even when we had much more success) is now going to Jerry. In Wade's time he got 99% the blame and hardly anyone talked about Jerry, except of course for hiring him in the first place. No one ever claimed Wade was undermined by Jerry, that he had no chance here because of his boss, etc. Garrett gets that excuse all the time.

I actually didn't say my part properly, above. I also think them liking him plays a role. At least with some of them. And I agree about Jerry also becoming a bigger blame magnet. Jason's intelligence and demeanor and the way he handles the press basically renders him an inert substance. He seems so reasonable and it makes Jerry a more obvious target by comparison.

Wade wasn't as good about deflecting jabs from the press. He got visibly defensive when a shot landed, and anybody who's ever boxed knows what happens when a punch gets under your guard. You get punched more.

As most probably know... I've asked this question for years. Garrett has been treated with ten times (or more) the respect that his predecessor was despite worse results on the field. Why? What makes him so special?

The short answer is that they're biased. They like Jason. A lot of them knew him from when he played here, and most of them predicted he'd turn this team around. And like many posters here, they don't want to admit they were wrong. They really thought that going to Princeton, being young and thin, and giving "professional" grammatically-correct press conferences meant he'd be a good head coach.

Fortunately, though they by and large still treat him with kid gloves, more and more media lately seem to be coming around to the truth that he's simply not a good coach.

I guess it's a process.

You're right, of course.

The final straw that proved JG was out of touch and not head coach material was the poor end-of-game clock and call mgt that he displayed last year.

There are a ton of folks just sitting here on this forum that could have made better decisions.

JJ keeps thinking JG will "grow into" his job. He's just growing older, and we've long since grown tired.

I don't want this subject to get derailed and into Jerry and Jason suck. What I was hoping to debate and get some perspective on is the willingness of the media just to let things go. I think Lab is pretty spot on in his deductions on the media liking Garrett.
I, like 99 % of every one hear love this team, have for nearly 30 years since I came to this country. Dammed if I wanna hear - if you don't like it, there is always the Commanders crap. That's just Bush league and we don't deserve that crap.
We are hear to talk about/debate what we perceive to the faults /flaws but also the correct and great things out team does.
My point was about accountability - if Garrett or Romo or even Jones would stand there and say, yeah we screwed up on that play/series/ game. And you know what ? We didn't do what we said we would. That will not happen again ! I would be right behind them, all I want is the team I support to be a little more forthright - I still love em ..... Give me a reason to puff my chest out and say Yep, that's my team, come hell or high water just gotta love em.
