If you give a good QB or almost any QB for that matter TOO MUCH time.... you could have Superman at FS and the Hulk at OLB and it wont help much.

We would have a better defense if Parcells would stop getting cute in the draft. If a guy is there and he's the best, get him, period. The Fasano pick was and still is a horrible pick while McNeill is over in San Diego tearing it up.

I think that Parcells is at the age, and has done so much for so many teams, that he thinks he's god when it comes to the draft. He can turn water into wine. We have passed over some great and obvious choices for our defense, along with our conservative and un-inovatave (sp) defensive game plan, and the whole thing is just not working.

Our running game stinks because we passed on better runners in the draft. We refuse to draft top notch Olinemen. Parcells is more concerned with size than speed. But on a good note, we've only lost 2 games with Romo at the helm, we would probably only be a 4 loss team at most had Romo started.

That's another thing that has changed greatly since Parcells' heyday....

QB's who come out early do poorly...those who stick in college for as much development and experience as possible seem to do better. Vince Young is finding success, but it has more to do with his raw athletic ability than reading defenses and delivering passes.

OL who come out as seniors seem to be graded pretty accurately these days. The great OT's and perennial all pros every year were almost all top draft picks, with few exceptions.

It's time for us to draft some blue-chip WR's and OLmen...enough with the defense. Especially now that we have a young QB, we need to surround him with guys who will grow and be with him for years...anyone who thinks Crayton and Hurd are our future starters are crazy.

If you ignore one side of the ball for too many drafts, you'll never have the type of impact players you need on both sides. People love the mantra "defense wins championships" but you don't see many teams with patchwork offensive lines, average RBs, and older receivers with no youth winning titles...very rare.

If your offense sustains drives and puts up lots of points, you defense only has to step up and get stops a few times a game to win. If all your focus is on defense, you better have a defense that dominates and stops the other team on most possessions.
I agree 100%.

Well I never really did like the Spears pick and he hasnt showed us anything since he has been here. I think he is more suited for a 4-3 and so is canty. Both players would be better on another team in a 4-3 scheme. I wouldnt be surprise if one of them is traded for a higher pick in the draft.

We havent had a dominate pass rusher since Haley and Lett and that was because of the 4-3. I think we will sign a couple of FA on defense and spend the 1st day of the draft on offense ( receiver and OL). The FS position will not be address because I think he will wait Watkins out and look for cheap veteren help as a backup plan.

The key will be the a FA. One reason we are getting hurt in the secondary is because we have no pass rush.

True that pass rushers do not grow on trees and are very tough to find, especially in the draft. Unless its a cant miss like Peppers or Freeney then finding pass rushers in the draft is a crapshoot.

I think we missed on Spears!

Trade up and get Landry or hope Nelson comes out to deepen DB pool..

If thats a stretch then, trade up to get Gaines Adams or Woodley.. I like Moses from Georgia too. Sure they all will compete at SOLB but anything is better than Carp. He can be a Utility guy that can rotate between a 4 positions. That in itself would help justify his lofty first round status. Woodley is a bit short but he is a beast with plenty of intensity.. Something I have yet to see from Bobby. I find it hard to believe that you go from team leader at OSU to tentative lost in space backer. I hate watching Carpenter on Kickoff get blown up or missing tackles EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Oh well probably wishful thinking anyway. We will probably draft rutgers Hback anyway:bang2:

Sadly enough this team still needs help at LB, FS, DE and a backup NT.

If there's a good WR within reach, I think we need to go there first. Then OL.

With all the talent on this defense, this is a coaching /scheme issue, nothing else.

WR our first pick, can you explain why? We need DE pass rushers just like that woman screaming in the old hi-lite films, DEFENSE-DEFENSE-DEFENSE
You old timers know what I'm talking about

Amen to that....I still cannot believe there are people whe defend the drafting of Anthony Fasano...even before we scrapped the 2 TE set....he is not a dominat pass catching TE...nor is he a dominant blocker...still cannot for the life of me figure that pick out...but I think you nailed it..we got to cute

And I was never in favor of passing up those backs that went in the 1st round 3 years ago...but I admit I wanted Kevin Jones

I always felt Spears would be a bust....to me Canty can never be a bust...he is a 4th round pick that is starting...so he will always be a great pick to me....but when you cannot see a difference between Spears or Canty...that is NOT good..considering where they were drafted

On the other hand, the Hatcher pick could turn out to be a beauty in a year or two . . . .

:lmao2: :lmao:

This defense will NEVER dominate no matter what additional players you add to it as long as Zimmer is calling plays and continues to fail to figure out to properly use each player he has.

Its the same old excuses.....different flavour of the year....for a decade now...

We have no pass rush because.....

We dont have talent....

we dont have CB's....campo era....

we dont have a FS....

etc...etc....etc....

We drafted.....a boatload of quality picks on defense.....

we spend a boatload of money on FA pickups on defense...

still.........

still....

we have no pass rush

btw.....when is the last time.....we had a gameplan....that confused the offense?......

I cant stop thinking that we still dont put players in position to succeed....

The Cowboys organization has been rolling top notch pass rushers through here as long as Zimmer has been here. There's a common denominator in all of this... Mike Zimmer.

I've long been a Zimmer fan but I've finally opened my eyes after that New Orleans game when the defense never made an adjustment to stop the damn passes in the left flat.

Laroi Glover.... his BEST year in Dallas was just a half sack better than his WORST year in New Orleans.

Ebenezer Ekuban... leaves the Cowboys and has his best year immediatly after that with the CLEVELAND BROWNS!

I am a little curious though. Mike Zimmer started out as the Cowboys secondary coach and yet our Secondary is criticized more than our pass rush.
In 12 NFL seasons - six as the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator - Mike Zimmer has established himself as one of the league's top assistant coaches. Seven times in his 12 seasons, the Dallas defense finished the year ranked in the top 10 in total defense, and seven times the club ranked in the top 10 in pass defense.

Zimmer assumed the Cowboys defensive coordinator position on Feb. 1, 2000 after directing a Cowboys secondary that was one of the league's best throughout the second half of the 1990s.

Perhaps its not just a coincidence that when our pass rush is successful, our secondary also has great games.

The secondary is only as good as the pass rush!

It's a bend but don't break D that we have. I don't like it and never will. I prefer the pressure D like Baltimore has. We have the talent to do some really great things on D. Our biggest liability is in the coaches starting with Zimmer the village idiot. I've said for years.......GROZ. Run a scheme that fits our players and put them in a position to make plays. Get a real 3-4 DC in here and lets start shutting teams down. I've seen more complex 3-4 play in preseason by some teams than we use in regular season games. ARGH!!!!!!!
