I looked back on that and saw a player who, despite those traits - things every damn team saw - Wasa 4th round pick because of mediocre play on the field
Ourlads had him going as early as round 2.

tapper's sparq is the best in the class for DEs...
Oklahoma doesn't play a 3-4. They play a 3-3-5.
As a base? Guess I'm the big 12 with all that spread, it makes sense. I assume the LBs are in coverage quite a bit, so DE made more sense.
Yes he's projected to be the next Jack Crawford with his skill set1.59 10 yard split. Wow.
Nfl.com draft comparison? Jack Crawford. Not so wow.
I like potential but I want to see on field statistical success : sacks, pressures, tackles from these guys1. Love the potential. The guy's highlight vid shows an impressive array of pass rush moves and his backside pursuit was solid. Excited to see what he becomes.
2. Not holding my breath though. I am reminded of the athletic potential of Matt Johnson-- but the guy could never stay on the field. I refuse to get enamored with a player until he can be consistent on the field.
Lots of mashed potatoes on the wall when it comes to the D right now. Let's see what sticks.
Tapper was 4th round, not first.MO looked medicore In his highlight videos and went first round. Unfortunately it was to dallas.
College stats don't closely correlate with NFL success.I like potential but I want to see on field statistical success : sacks, pressures, tackles from these guys
I was looked back on some measurable(s) and I was reminded that Tapper is a freak.
Tapper

For reference, Tyron Smith's hand size is 11".

If Tapper turns out to be pretty good McClay is a god

Looking back in hindsight to this draft, I think we all underestimated the impact Tapper had on the Cowboys decisions. I think he impacted the decision to draft a DE in round 1 rather than round 2 because the Cowboys liked him more than the DE options at 60. If they were going to take a DE high, they were going to get a player of equal or better quality than Tapper, which they could only get at 28.
Tapper probably also impacted the Charleton vs. Watt decision. I think it was McClay that said they would have viewed Tapper as one of the top RDE's in this draft. They probably didn't feel they needed to take a pure RDE like Watt, but would be better served with a more versatile player that could play several positions on the defensive line.
The last time I saw this team transform itself from worst to first in just a couple of drafts was when Jimmy Johnson was getting started. I just hope this team can match the success that that team did.No kidding. An already incredible draft class, when you can find a QB in the 4th, get Zeke and Collins, then get a 6th rounder looking like he can play. If Jaylon comes back healthy it's one of the best i've seen in a long time. Tapper being a player would just be crazy. If Rico comes out of that too, it's an all-time great imo.
If the guys this year can play to their ability, then Dallas just basically transformed their entire team and approach in two drafts, without a bunch of extra picks, minimal FA, and a stockpile of young talent.
And it started Dak's rookie year. If he can keep improving a bit, and we draft like we have, he's going to win a few Super Bowls. Right now i'd say Dallas is the best drafting team in the league, as evidenced the last 2 years. This year is premature obviously, but based on value and ability, we got some crazy value. It also happened to fill our biggest needs (after we took pass rush). I also like the addition of Switzer to our return game, a lot of people overlook that aspect, but it can change games.
Just hope he stays healthy. Backs are a bad deal.
He was really impressing the team on his skills before he was out. He has a really fast first step.I was looked back on some measurable(s) and I was reminded that Tapper is a freak.
